From the Brexit result and The Battle of Hastings to Queen Elizabeth´s Coronation and Hitler´s planned invasion, these are just some of the fascinating maps which tell the history of our islands through the medium of cartography Many of them mark critical moments in the history of Great Britain, including a colour-coded map of the UK indicating how each area of the country voted in the June 2016 EU referendum and in what percentages - while another shows the population density in different parts of Britain during the Victorian era. Further maps illustrate Nazi Germany´s plans for Operation Sealion - an audacious

I can´t talk say much about the ravaging that wielded horrible changes; what beauty was left post-WWII England since I left in 1967 began to disappear. Watching sadly that once decent and comfortable place sinking into the last chance of any happy survival stabs deeply.

And then there´s my beloved adopted country´s future . . . .

The Daily Mail´s grammar really needs attention: "The Queen endured a two-hour, four-and-a-half mile return journey from Westminster Abbey to make sure her and the Duke of Edinburgh could wave to as many adoring subjects as possible." Should read "she and the Duke."

The Daily Mail is a secret sin of mine, but I do believe that most of what is written is by 14 year old Brits or 18 year old´s in the DM office in India.

Yes, a guilty sin I´ve enjoyed for many years.

However, I can no longer get to the DM website because, according to my browser, "the server won´t accept your ISP." Wonder what that´s about?? My Ad-Blocker, maybe??

President Donald Trump used his failed North Korea summit to blast Democrats, charging the party with ´rooting against us.´ He lashed out against them the day after he announced he was cancelling the planned summit with President Kim Jong-Un in Singapore next month. ´Democrats are so obviously rooting against us in our negotiations with North Korea,´ he wrote in an early morning Twitter blast on Friday. His Twitter attack was filled with his other grievances against Democrats, including his assertion they defend the violent El Salvadorian gang MS 13 and that they want to raise taxes. ´Dems have lost touch!,´ he charged. Donald Trump said Friday that America will not apologize for its military might or allow its national pride to be weakened as he hit out at his predecessor in office during a commencement address. ´America is the greatest fighting force for peace justice and freedom in the history of the world, and in case you haven´t noticed, we have become a lot stronger lately. A lot,´ he told Naval Academy graduates. ´We are not going to apologize for America, we are going to stand up for America. President Donald Trump signaled Thursday that he was receptive to meeting with Kim Jong-un after North Korea committed to talks ´any time in any form´ after the United States called off a June 12 summit. ´Very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from North Korea. We will soon see where it will lead, hopefully to long and enduring prosperity and peace. Only time (and talent) will tell!´ Trump tweeted. The president in another message ripped into Democrats who he thought were too gleeful that the face-to-face with Kim in Singapore was falling through, saying they are ´so obviously rooting

Roger Stone, the self-described Republican ´political dirty trickster´ and longtime Trump adviser, allegedly inquired about damaging information on Hillary Clinton from WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange before the 2016 election. According to The Wall Street Journal, Stone asked New York radio host Randy Credico in a September 18, 2016, email if he could reach out to Assange. ´Please ask Assange for any State or HRC e-mail from August 10 to August 30 — particularly on August 20, 2011,´ Stone wrote in the email. Stone reportedly wanted information that dated back to 2011 when Clinton was blamed for a failed Libyan

Hillary Clinton continued to attack the Electoral College system used to elect U.S. presidents on Friday, calling it an "odd system" and contrary to the idea of "one person, one vote." "I know this is another really obvious thing to say. Vote in every election, not just presidential elections," Clinton said at Harvard University, in a clip flagged by NTK Network. "You know, it is maddening because one of the panelists said we get the government that we vote for. Now, we have this odd system with the Electoral College." Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the popular vote by nearly three million

On Friday, Hillary Clinton stepped out into the sweltering Boston, MA heat in a heavy coat and scarf. According to various weather reports, it reached nearly 90 degrees in Boston on Friday. Hillary Clinton received the Radcliffe Award at Harvard on Friday. The twice-failed presidential hopeful told the audience she would be the CEO of Facebook given the chance “because it’s the biggest news platform in the world.” Odd… The Attorney General of Massachusetts, Maura Healey posted the photo of Hillary in the sweltering heat. President Barack Obama took a light swing at his successor during a tech conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday. His eight years in office were scandal free, he told the audience. "I didn´t have scandals, which seems like it shouldn´t be something you brag about," Obama joked. President Donald Trump’s presidency has thus far been racked with scandalous allegations, but Obama later hedged his barb. "But actually,” he said, “if you look at the history of the modern presidency, coming out of the modern presidency without anybody going to jail is really good. It´s a big deal." The reason his

Until 1968, Walter Cronkite believed what his government told him about the Vietnam War. He was an old-school journalist, a patriot, a man who came of age covering World War II as a wire-service reporter and then taking over as the anchor of “The CBS Evening News” at the height of the Cold War. Like most journalists of his generation, he embraced the fight against communism and understood why the United States had intervened in the war raging in Vietnam. When he’d visited Vietnam on a reporting trip early in the war, he’d been annoyed by the attitude of the young

While speaking to a tech conference this week in Las Vegas President Obamarepeated a claim he and many members of the media have made since his presidency came to an end. “I didn’t have scandals, which seems like it shouldn’t be something you brag about,” Obama said. “But actually,” he said, “if you look at the history of the modern presidency, coming out of the modern presidency without anybody going to jail is really good. It’s a big deal.” The notion is obviously absurd on the face of it, for anyone who paid unbiased attention over the eight years of

Starbucks is closing more than 8,000 of its coffee shops across the US on Sunday for a four-hour, anti-bias training session – almost two months since an employee at a Philadelphia location called the police on two black men accused of trespassing as they waited, without making a purchase, to be joined for a meeting. Since the incident, which sparked protests and threats of a boycott against a chain known for actively promoting a diverse workforce and taking liberal stands on issues such as same-sex marriage, senior executives have repeatedly apologized. The company reached a settlement with Donte Robinson and

Florida-based supermarket chain Publix announced Friday that corporate-backed political contributions will be suspended “as we reevaluate our giving processes” – an announcement that came shortly before Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg’s “die-in” protest. In response to the revelation earlier this month that Publix donated $670,000 to Florida GOP gubernatorial candidate Adam Putnam, Hogg organized the “die-in” protest to occur at a Publix in Coral Springs on Friday where participants were instructed to lie down in the store for 12 minutes. Shortly before the protest was set to begin at 4 p.m., Publix issued a statement regarding the suspension of corporate-funded
