Senate Stumbles into Shutdown
as Rand Paul Blocks Vote

WASHINGTON— The government stumbled into a midnight shutdown Thursday as a rogue Senate Republican blocked a speedy vote on a massive, bipartisan, budget-busting spending deal, protesting the return of trillion-dollar deficits on the watch of Republicans controlling Washington. A shutdown — technically a lapse in agency appropriations — became inevitable as GOP Sen. Rand Paul repeatedly held up votes on the budget plan, which is married to a six-week government-wide spending measure. The Senate recessed around 11 p.m. with plans to reconvene just after midnight.Paul was seeking a vote on reversing

At least someone has a sense of honor. If we ran our personal finances the way they run the national ones, we´d be in prison.

This 700 page document was delivered at midnight Wednesday night and scheduled to go to a vote Thursday night to prevent a shutdown.

Question: How many Senators and Congressmen read this thing. A speed reader at 1200 words a minute would have spent 6 hours plus wading through this document. The average reader at 300 words a minute....! Well, you get the picture.

As interest rates are poised to rise, we are looking at a situation where the INTEREST on the debt we all owe, will be overwhelming and unsustainable.

Hemingway was once asked how he found himself to be bankrupt. He replied,´It happened slowly.....then suddenly!´

I fear for the future of my children and grandchildren when that happens! And it appears it will!

I think we need to rebuild our military or we´re going to see the first Nuke come to us! That takes Billions. We can take the money the Democrats would use to support those MILLIONS of Dreamers and their families and give it to the Military. If Dreamers want to stay here, they should NOT be a burden on our country. If they are on welfare, it should be cut off NOW. Then move to the millions of Americans who are on welfare who are able bodied and cut them off. You see where I´m going with this. We have the money to fund our military IF we quit using it foolishly. Quit sending BILLIONS to foreign countries that hate us. Quit using our military to defend foreign countries who should have formed their own military 50 years ago! Why haven´t any of our members of Congress brought this up? It´s common sense! Not much of that in Washington these days!

DALLAS, Texas-A leader in Dallas politics does not want the National Rifle Association to meet in his city. Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway is urging the NRA to find a new home for its annual convention. He says the meeting is not appropriate in Dallas in the wake of last week´s school shooting in Florida. Caraway also points to the past tragedies in Dallas, including the 2016 ambush that killed five Dallas officers, and the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. "It is a tough call when you ask the NRA to reconsider coming to Dallas. But it is putting

If Nikolas Cruz had been arrested for his prior criminal behavior he would not have passed a background check for a firearm purchase. The issue was/is not the background check; the issue was/is the lack of a prior arrest. Hence, the Broward County school and law enforcement policy is ultimately what failed. (Video) I don’t say this lightly, but the lawyers have the easiest case for ‘wrongful death’ lawsuits in the history of this type of litigation. The county policy constructed by public officials (School Board and Superintendent), and the county law enforcement policy that was specifically and intentionally designed

What Influences a Justice’s Decision

WASHINGTON — Supreme Court justices say they do not act politically when they decide cases. But they freely admit to taking account of politics in deciding when to retire. Most justices, for instance, try to step down under politically like-minded presidents. “That’s not 100 percent true,” Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist said in 1999, six years before he died, “but it certainly is true in more cases than not.” Such political calculations are perfectly proper, he said, as “deciding when to step down from the court is not a judicial act.” For the second year in a row, rumors that

President Trump will address the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Friday for the second year in a row, according to an agenda released on Monday. Vice President Mike Pence, Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, Energy Secretary Rick Perry, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke and Fox News host Sean Hannity are also slated to speak this week at the conservative confab, which kicks off Wednesday at the National Harbor complex in Maryland. Thousands of conservatives are expected to descend on the region for CPAC’s annual convention, which is widely regarded as the Super Bowl of conservative politics. Trump was greeted with chants of

A 15-year-old student’s heroic efforts are being praised for saving the lives of 20 people in the high school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Wednesday. Anthony Borges, a freshman soccer player at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, is recovering in the hospital after he was shot five times while using his body as a shield to protect his fellow classmates from the bullets, the Daily Mail reported. Expelled student Nikolas Cruz, 19, allegedly wounded Borges and killed 17 people in the shooting. Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel visited Borges in the hospital Sunday, saying he was “honored” to visit the teenager: (Tweet)

What George Washington means for us today

One of the most compelling moments in the musical “Hamilton” is the entry of Gen. George Washington as the American rebels suddenly face 32,000 British troops in New York Harbor. It’s not just his dramatic, staccato lines (“We’re outgunned. Outmanned. Outnumbered. Outplanned”), but the fact that the guy playing him is black. This is part of what makes the show so magical — its forthright adaptation of America’s Founders for all of today’s Americans. George Washington truly belongs to us all now — it’s why the nation is celebrating his birthday Monday. Yes: “Presidents Day” is officially still Washington’s Birthday,

President Donald Trump taunted Oprah Winfrey on Sunday night via Twitter, egging the nationally known talk show host on in an effort to get her to run against him for president in 2020. (Tweet) Winfrey on Sunday evening’s 60 Minutes hosted a panel of 14 Michigan voters, the second time she has hosted this gathering, to get their thoughts on the election in 2016 and what has happened since then. Michigan is a state in which Trump shocked Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton, beating her for the first time a Republican has won the Rust Belt state in decades. Trump also

The FBI failed to investigate warnings about the Florida school shooter, but never mind that. And the National Rifle Association has no control over school shootings, but never mind that, either. Two newly minted gun control activists from Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida are defending the FBI, while demanding that NRA "child murderers" dismantle and disband. And they have declined an invitation to discuss their concerns with President Donald Trump, whom they call "disgusting."

Pyeongchang - The moment, when it happened, felt routine to American slopestyle skier Gus Kenworthy, who along with figure skater Adam Rippon is the only openly gay male Winter Olympian to ever compete for the United States. Matthew Wilkas, Kenworthy’s boyfriend, gave Kenworthy a good-luck kiss before a qualifying run on Sunday in South Korea. “That was like a peck,” Wilkas, who wore a “USGay” t-shirt to the event, tells TIME afterwards from the bottom of the slopestyle course at the Phoenix Snow Park. “We should have made out in front of people.” Kenworthy didn’t know the TV cameras caught

Students are in the middle of a lie-in protest outside the White House over gun laws just days after 17 people were killed in the Florida high school shooting massacre. Groups of students from Washington DC staged the protest on Monday on a road leading to the White House. They took turns lying on the road for three minutes - the same amount of time 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz went on a firing spree at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last week. Other students stood by holding signs that read ´Am I next?´ and ´Is Congress or the NRA making our

Mitt Romney said Friday that the nation must act swiftly to address the scourge of gun violence, stating that he was open to tougher measures like "enhanced background checks" if they would help keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill. "What happened is unthinkable and unimaginable," he said after offering prayers for the victims of the Florida shooting. "We must take action to prevent tragedies like this from happening again." Speaking at a fundraising dinner held by Utah County Republicans in his first official appearance as a U.S. Senate candidate, Romney said he hoped to see the state generate

Now that the gun control advocates have had their fifteen minutes of fame, let’s start focusing on the real issues impacting the rise in school shootings since that infamous day in Columbine in 1999. Issue number one that no one in the mainstream media or government wants to acknowledge: fatherlessness. Specifically, the impact of fatherlessness on the boys who grew up to become school shooters. Dr. Warren Farrell, author of the new book The Boy Crisis, explains: Minimal or no father involvement, whether due to divorce, death, or imprisonment, is common to Adam Lanza, Elliott Rodgers, Dylan Roof and Stephen Paddock.
