America´s Whiniest Ex-Sheriff
Announces Senate Run

Reason, by C.J. Ciaramella

Original Article

A bit more than a year after voters booted him out of office, former Maricopa County sheriff Joe Arpaio has announced he´s running for the U.S. Senate. The 85-year-old Arizonan—an unrepentant birther, nativist, and whiny baby—told the Washington Examiner that he will run on a platform of supporting the agenda of President Donald Trump, who pardoned Arpaio last year after a federal judge held the ex-sheriff in criminal contempt. "I have a lot to offer. I´m a big supporter of President Trump," Arpaio told the paper. "I´m going to have to work hard; you don´t take anything for granted.

Wow. I guess he misses the spotlight. The main effect he´ll have is to take votes away from Ward and hand the race to McSally. Ward needs a big turnout in Maricopa County and that´s Arpaio´s strength. McSally´s congressional district is in Southern Arizona including the Tucson area. She´ll clean up there.

Ciaramella, I suspect, has never been persecuted by the former Obama adm.
Besides, media types are the most whiny people on earth.

Reason lost its, er, reason during the Obama administration and with so many states legalizing marijuana its pet project of intellectualizing pot smoking was greatly diminished, Sessions´ announcement notwithstanding.

I´m frankly astounded at the stoooopidity over this announcement (a little here, lots elsewhere). People seem to be constantly jumping up and down hollering that we need to get off our butts and get involved in politics. Then when a good man like Arpaio decides to do just that, these same people immediately whine, "Oh, no! He´s going to ruin everything!"

No thank you! This dude got pardoned and now he thinks he is King Methuselah? We do not want another 85 year old in the senate. We are not a geriatric party.

I hope Sheriff Joe doesn´t run, he´s too old and he will take votes away from a more viable conservative candidate, however, a law enforcement official´s job is to protect law abiding citizens from harm, and crime statistics show that as sheriff, Joe Arpaio kept his district more than twice as safe as a neighboring district overseen by a liberal sheriff, even though the areas had almost identical demographics and problems. Sheriff Joe lost his job thanks to being targeted by a lavishly Soros funded campaign. The people of Maricopa County should have known better.

Yay for the optimism it takes to apply for a 6-year job when you´re 85, but this isn´t a gig as Wal-Mart greeter.

Regardless of what a stalwart conservative Sheriff Joe may be - and I like him - he´s too damned old to be a senator. Says me.

Arpaio dodged a bullet with Trump. He should quietly retire now. He´s too old for the job and too much of a loose cannon.

Kind of like Roy Moore. Makes you wonder which GOPer or Dem is advising him.

AZ should be another safe seat. The dems don´t care and they´ll cross the aisle to vote for Arpaio in the primary. Meanwhile, the GOP field will be yuge and split the sane vote. Dems win. Maybe another two seats since McCain will be gone too.

Joe needs to stand down.

Joe is taking orders from Mitch. McConman does not want Kelli Ward because she is a conservative. Mitch is on another mission of complete personal destruction of her. Joe is another useful tool like Romney.

Please someone with some influence talk to the good Sheriff. He is too old and carries too much baggage. While I appreciate his service, he needs to retire and let someone younger carry the torch.

The Republican Party of Texas has officially endorsed decriminalization of marijuana, offering yet more proof of the dizzying speed at which attitudes are changing toward marijuana and marijuana prohibition. At the state´s GOP biennial party convention in San Antonio last week, assembled delegates lent their overwhelming support to adding four cannabis-related planks to the party platform, including the repeal of criminal penalties for marijuana possession, the expansion of the state´s incredibly limited medical marijuana law, a call for the rescheduling of marijuana at the federal level, and the legalization of industrial

At Saturday’s White House Correspondents Dinner, comedian Michelle Wolf made some jokes about White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders that have a lot of people, particularly on the right, very upset.(Snip)Wolf then continued to suggest that Sanders was a sort of “Uncle Tom but for white women.” Sanders was visibly upset the entire time, and many people on the right rushed to her defense — saying that Wolf’s jokes were inappropriate and an outrage. A Pennsylvania-based company that claims to be the last American manufacturer of steel beer kegs might be driven out of business by the tariffs that President Donald Trump imposed last week. On Thursday, Trump signed an executive order imposing 25 percent tariffs on steel imported into the United States (plus a 10 percent tariff on imported aluminum). The tariff will help steel makers at the expense of steel-consuming businesses like American Keg of Pottstown, Pennsylvania. "Tariffs will inadvertently drive the price of American steel higher," CEO Paul Czachor tells Philly.com´s Sam Wood. "Within a year, we might have to raise our

One of the ironies of trade protectionism is that tariffs and import quotas are what we do to ourselves in times of peace and what foreign nations do to us with blockades to keep imports from entering our country in times of war. Or consider that we impose sanctions on U.S. enemies such as North Korea, Russia, and Iran because we want them to feel the economic pain of being deprived of imports. But now we are imposing sanctions on our own country, putting up tariffs supposedly to make Americans more prosperous. If ever there were a crisis of logic

It lived an uneventful life in Earth´s oceans 500 million years ago, but now this newly discovered creature has an unusual honor: It´s been given the scientific name Obamus coronatus, a name that honors President Barack Obama´s passion for science. (Coronatus means "crowned.") The tiny, disc-shaped animal was about a 1/2 inch long, with raised spiral grooves on its surface. It spent its entire life embedded on the ocean floor, likely never moving, according to scientists from the University of California – Riverside. A second small animal, an egg-shaped critter that may have looked like a raisin, was also discovered.

Michelle Obama joined her fellow former first lady Laura Bush Monday in criticizing the hard-line Trump administration immigration policy that has led to families being separated at the border. Bush, the wife of former President George W. Bush, penned a tweet over the weekend in which she echoed the widespread condemnation of the new directive from Attorney General Jeff Sessions. “I live in a border state,” Bush said. “I appreciate the need to enforce and protect our international boundaries, but this zero-tolerance policy is cruel. It is immoral. And it breaks my heart.” Quoting that tweet, Obama wrote that “sometimes truth transcends

Illegal Immigration: The latest outrage by the Trump administration is its policy of "ripping" children away from parents who´ve crossed the border illegally. As with so many other things involving Trump, there´s plenty of emotion but precious little in the way of facts. The furor reached critical mass after the Department of Homeland Security said on Friday that 1,995 children had been separated from their illegal border crossing parents from mid-April through May. That number included, DHS said, cases where the adults were arrested for illegal entry, immigration violations, or possible criminal conduct. The practice has generated a rising storm of protests,

Roseanne Barr has become untouchable due to the "Valerie Jarrett/Ambien/Planet of the Apes" controversy, irrevocably contaminated by racism. This presents a problem for ABC, which canceled her revived show but wants the show to return in some form because it had high ratings. The apparent solution is to create a new show focused on the daughter character "Darlene," which would exclude Roseanne. Unfortunately, Roseanne Barr owns a chunk of the show, and ABC doesn´t want to be seen letting Barr profit from it, so ABC is in talks to buy the show from Barr so she would not technically profit
