Motel 6 was sued on Wednesday by Washington state’s attorney general, who accused the discount hotel chain of illegally providing guest lists to U.S. immigration authorities, knowing of their interest in people with “Latino-sounding” names. Attorney General Bob Ferguson said six Motel 6 locations in Washington provided names, birth dates, license plates and other personal information belonging to at least 9,151 guests to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from June 2015 to May 2017. Ferguson said Motel 6 knew ICE used guest lists to target people based on their national origin, and that the disclosures led to

There´s something wrong when a company is sued by a state for following federal law. Like activist judges, there may bea real storm brewing over the separation of powers designed by our Constitution.

And yet these liberals have no problem with law enforcement taking pictures of license plates at gun shows and sharing the information!

Motel 6 should do all it can to move this to Federal court. Motel 6 has no chance in state court and since abiding by Federal law might be a significant factor in the case, it would be interesting to see how the discrimination law fares against Federal law.

The State of Washington does not have legal authority to interfere with federal law enforcement requests to businesses or any witnesses or people who may be the custodians of evidence being sought for federal law enforcement purposes. When a state court attempts to do that, the legal case is transferred to the federal courts where it is dismissed.

A person’s national origin has nothing to do with immigration law enforcement. What is important is a person’s alienage and if the person is deportable under provisions of the immigration laws.

Not discrimination if they also turn over the Jorgensons, the O´Tooles, the Macaronis and the Goldbergs.

It certainly seems like SAG Ferguson has grabbed the tiger by the tail on this one. The article is too slim on facts to get a real feel for it but if his state law stepped on the toes of the federal laws, that is, it is preempted by federal law, his state law is void, I would think.
I would not think that Ferguson is completely mad so he must think he has found a way around it. In any event, to me, the wall Mr. Ferguson is about to run into is that both the federal courts and the state courts are equally obligated to uphold the laws of the land - that would be the Constitution which grants preemption rights to the feds.

If they were under a court order or had a reasonable suspicion about skulduggery afoot, I can see it. If they are just handing them over to be handing them over, I do have a problem with that. I will not stay at such a place. Next thing you know they might want to report people with redneck state license plates or carrying cases that might hold rifles.
Rent your room, collect your money and if the guest isnt hurting anything, leave them be.

Who are they suing? About 2/3rd of Motel 6 properties are owned by franchisees. Independent businessmen and women, often families.

As usual, go after the little guy with limited resources with the heavy handed power of the state.

Here´s why it matters that Americans are
having fewer children than ever before
Fox News, by Jeremy Carl    Original Article

Americans and Europeans are abandoning parenthood at an alarming rate, profoundly changing the nature of our societies, our politics and our cultures. Last year, women in the U.S. had children at the lowest rate ever recorded. There were just 60.2 births for every 1,000 girls and women ages 15 to 44 in our country. As a result, there were fewer births in America last year – 3.85 million babies – than at any time since 1987. This was a 2 percent drop from 2016. In addition, those having the most children are least able to pay for their upbringing. American women became mothers last year at rates that were inversely proportional to

Several Jewish parents expressed outrage over the weekend after children at a New York City school were instructed to observe a moment of silence for the dozens of Palestinians killed during clashes along the Gaza border. The announcement of the Tuesday tribute at Beacon High School in Hell’s Kitchen was made by a student over the school’s PA system. It was not clear whether the decision had been approved by the school principal. The New York Post, which reported the story, said it was not able to reach principal Ruth Lacey for comment. Parents said they didn’t understand why the school chose to suddenly take a stance on the

Former Education Secretary Arne Duncan said parents should pull their children out of school until Congress passes gun control legislation. "What if no children went to school until gun laws changed to keep them safe?" Duncan tweeted Saturday. Duncan, who served as secretary under President Obama, called the step "tragically necessary." "My family is all in if we can do this at scale. Parents, will you please join us?" he said. Duncan´s plea comes one day after 10 people were killed in a mass shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas.

Nathan McClure served in Baghdad at the height of the Iraq War. When he was severely wounded in 2007, ending his military career in the US Army, it was thanks to a weapon called an EFP — or explosively formed penetrator — piercing his Humvee. (Snip) The surprise victory of the 44-year-old Shiite cleric, whose militias led two uprisings against US troops during the bloodiest years of the occupation, has rattled some US veterans and reopened frustrations for others. Muslims were detained for re-education by China‘s government and made to eat pork and drink alcohol, according to a former internment camp inmate. Omir Bekali, one among perhaps a million people reportedly arrested and held in mass re-education camps, said he was detained without trial or access to a lawyer and forced to disavow his beliefs while praising the Communist Party. Mr Bekali, a Kazakh citizen, said he contemplated suicide (Snip) A US commission called it the “the largest mass incarceration of a minority population in the world today” while a leading historian called it “cultural cleansing”.

Washington/Kabul - U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear accord and re-impose sanctions on Tehran threatens to derail a project to help build Afghanistan’s economy, endangering a key goal of the U.S. strategy to end America’s longest war. The Indian-backed Chabahar port complex in Iran is being developed as part of a new transportation corridor for land-locked Afghanistan that could potentially open the way for millions of dollars in trade (Snip) Building Afghanistan’s economy would also slash Kabul’s dependence on foreign aid and put a major dent in the illicit opium trade, the Taliban’s main

Donald Trump has stayed uncharacteristically quiet on Twitter without posting a single tweet about the royal wedding. The President, who is usually especially active on the social media network early in the day, did not tweet anything all morning about the nuptials between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, which ended at 9.00am ET. Rumors swirled about whether Trump would be invited to the wedding at Windsor Castle in Berkshire, but he was eventually left off the guest list, along with other political leaders. Prominent figures who made the cut included Oprah Winfrey, George and Amal Clooney and the Beckhams. Other A-listers including Idris
