With Social Capital Project, Sen. Lee Hopes
to Measure America’s Coming Apart

Washington Free Beacon, by Charles Fain Lehman

Between 1970 and today, Americans’ community ties have been in stark decline. The proportion of citizens living with a spouse plunged from 71 to 50 percent. Forty percent of all births are to single mothers, up from 11 percent. Fifty-five percent of American adults are members of churches or synagogues, down from almost 70 percent. We are more segregated by class and spend less time with our neighbors, friends, and coworkers than 50 years ago. Measuring, then addressing, this coming apart is the goal of Sen. Mike Lee´s (R., Utah.) Social Capital Project (SCP). Begun in May of this year,

Not a difficult subject. Start with the Great Society and LBJ and go from there. My dad would disagree and say start with FDR. There is no will or disire to reverse course at this time.

Why would any woman get married if the government rewards her for not getting married?
No young woman who had two kids in HS and being cared for by her parents and baby daddy should get ten grand back in a tax return.

Yet, a single man or elderly person is lucky to get food assistance.

Senator Lee, there is no one to blame but Washington.

Social media would have something to do with the isolation category but a certain demographic drastically skews the stats for the whole population. The senator´s report will not state that, of course.

This is all lovely and thoughtful, but I think Senator Lee´s attention to the tax code is sorely misplaced. I would say please, please, please STOP using the income tax code as a vehicle for social engineering! Way too much of that already...out of control...wrong tool!!

Liberals and "conservatives" have contributed to all this over the years. It doesn´t help that "institutions" have generally made themselves less relevant than ever, whether churches, the fraternal clubs or bowling leagues. It´s tough to compete against over a hundred channels in one´s living room on a 60-inch TV.

Social media is where it´s at for many under 50. Facebook, Twitter, whatever, is like being at the bar, plenty of stupidity served without the expense of liquor.

Marriage is dying because men are going Galt. They aren´t willing to get into a legal tangle that will sap their wealth ad infinitum when the marriage falls apart - as virtually all expect anymore. Women are demanding equality...and they´re getting it, and then some.

Well worth reading. This is a real problem.

But government doesn´t want any ´mediating institutions´ standing between the individual and the power of the state.

So the SCP would become another government committee which compiled the opinions of labor union executives, university administrators, political scientists, and other experts. IOW: those who like things just as they are.

Allow me to share right away that if you haven’t followed the entire fourteen months of discussion surrounding The Big Ugly, this is not a discussion thread you will enjoy. This is more digestible by those who have a comprehensive understanding of the 2016 back-story behind the DOJ and FBI surveillance program of Candidate Donald Trump, then President Trump, and the FISA-701(16)(17) issues therein. On this subject, as with a few in the past, CTH has presented intricacies beyond the current story. Oddly, when this happens, and specifically because of our prior crowd-sourcing track record, we pick up ‘nodes’, operational

New text messages between two top FBI officials who appeared to favor Hillary Rodham Clinton over Donald Trump in their probes of the two show they were scared stiff that Trump would win. In texts released by a Senate investigating committee, FBI lawyer Lisa Page wrote FBI investigator Peter Strzok in may 2016: “Holy s**t [Ted] Cruz just dropped out of the race. It’s going to be a Clinton Trump race. Unbelievable.” Strzok responded, “What?!?!??” and Page wrote, “You heard it right my friend.”The two have been the face of allegations that the FBI was biased during the 2016 election,

One of the FBI agents who oversaw the Clinton email investigation spoke of “pressure” to wrap up the probe after it became clear that Donald Trump would win the 2016 Republican presidential primaries. And in a text exchange on July 1, 2016, FBI lawyer Lisa Page suggested to her lover, counterintelligence official Peter Strzok, that then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch had foreknowledge that the FBI planned to exonerate Clinton in the investigation over her use of a private email server. That despite then-FBI Director James Comey saying on July 5, 2016 that the Justice Department had no idea what statement he planned to

The pro-life movement and the feminist movement could not be more different, and this sharp contrast was on full display over the weekend. For the very first time, I had the opportunity to attend the March for Life in Washington, D.C. The crowds were massive – it’s the largest annual human rights march in the world – and the people were cheerful, warm, and full of joy. The theme of the event was, fittingly: "love saves lives." Families proudly pushed their babies with Down syndrome — an abnormality we, as a society, are urgently told to dispose of — in their

Additional text messages sent and received by disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok have been handed over to Congress, reports the Associated Press.According to an exchange between Strzok and Bureau lawyer Lisa Page, then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch reportedly knew former FBI Director James Comey would let Hillary Clinton off the hook in her email investigation when she announced the Justice Department would “defer” to the FBI’s conclusion. Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) questioned President Donald Trump’s new campaign ad saying Democrats “will be complicit in every murder committed by illegal immigrants” if they continued the shutdown. Ryan said, “They are certainly not helping us keep the government open. They are certainly not helping us get to a solution on immigration. When you shut down the government you stop negotiating on immigration reform. They’re complicity with not getting things done.” He added, “I’m not going to comment. I just saw that. I don’t know if that’s necessarily productive. It’s no

1988 Democratic presidential nominee Michael Dukakis ripped President Trump´s new tax law and offered optimism for Democrats ahead of the midterm elections. Dukakis, a former governor of the Bay State during the so-called economic "Massachusetts Miracle," said Republicans have lost their way when it comes to supporting fiscal responsibility. He questioned why they would champion a tax plan that may have costly ramifications for the national deficit. It´s no secret that Mitt Romney is, in all likelihood, going to run for a Senate seat in Utah. What´s less clear, however, is why the man who was the 2012 Republican presidential nominee and is now retired and occupying an elder-statesman role in a party torn into warring factions would want to serve as a junior senator. Once elected, Romney would find himself embroiled in day-to-day congressional fights and less free to voice his criticisms of the White House, while losing some of the deference he´s been shown by members of his own party. But listen to any number of Republicans and

Question: Do you think Donald Trump spends more time thinking about Hillary Clinton than Hillary Clinton spends thinking about Donald Trump? Sure does seem like it. The other day, President Trump was discussing Russia at a press conference with the prime minister of Norway, when he suddenly announced that Clinton “was not for a strong military and Hillary, my opponent, was for windmills, and she was for other types of energy that don’t have the same capacities at this moment certainly.” Yeah, it didn’t make any sense.
