With Social Capital Project, Sen. Lee Hopes
to Measure America’s Coming Apart

Washington Free Beacon, by Charles Fain Lehman

Between 1970 and today, Americans’ community ties have been in stark decline. The proportion of citizens living with a spouse plunged from 71 to 50 percent. Forty percent of all births are to single mothers, up from 11 percent. Fifty-five percent of American adults are members of churches or synagogues, down from almost 70 percent. We are more segregated by class and spend less time with our neighbors, friends, and coworkers than 50 years ago. Measuring, then addressing, this coming apart is the goal of Sen. Mike Lee´s (R., Utah.) Social Capital Project (SCP). Begun in May of this year,

Not a difficult subject. Start with the Great Society and LBJ and go from there. My dad would disagree and say start with FDR. There is no will or disire to reverse course at this time.

Why would any woman get married if the government rewards her for not getting married?
No young woman who had two kids in HS and being cared for by her parents and baby daddy should get ten grand back in a tax return.

Yet, a single man or elderly person is lucky to get food assistance.

Senator Lee, there is no one to blame but Washington.

Social media would have something to do with the isolation category but a certain demographic drastically skews the stats for the whole population. The senator´s report will not state that, of course.

This is all lovely and thoughtful, but I think Senator Lee´s attention to the tax code is sorely misplaced. I would say please, please, please STOP using the income tax code as a vehicle for social engineering! Way too much of that already...out of control...wrong tool!!

Liberals and "conservatives" have contributed to all this over the years. It doesn´t help that "institutions" have generally made themselves less relevant than ever, whether churches, the fraternal clubs or bowling leagues. It´s tough to compete against over a hundred channels in one´s living room on a 60-inch TV.

Social media is where it´s at for many under 50. Facebook, Twitter, whatever, is like being at the bar, plenty of stupidity served without the expense of liquor.

Marriage is dying because men are going Galt. They aren´t willing to get into a legal tangle that will sap their wealth ad infinitum when the marriage falls apart - as virtually all expect anymore. Women are demanding equality...and they´re getting it, and then some.

Well worth reading. This is a real problem.

But government doesn´t want any ´mediating institutions´ standing between the individual and the power of the state.

So the SCP would become another government committee which compiled the opinions of labor union executives, university administrators, political scientists, and other experts. IOW: those who like things just as they are.

TV and Radio personality Laura Ingraham was the first pundit to state that Congress has paid out millions in settlement money for sexual harassment claims within congress. The following day a reporter for The Hill, Reid Wilson, shared a chart showing the annualized payout amounts. We shared the chart from Reid Wilson. However, the chart is misleading without the accompanying cover letter describing the content. [Original Source Link Here] In reality the claim that congress has paid out millions for “sexual harassment” or “harassment” settlements is entirely FALSE.(Photo) Sean Davis co-founder of The Federalist, was the first to spot the

Apparently, North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un had a unique idea for farmers when they fertilize their crops, and it’s causing a wave of parasitic infections across the country: Use human excrement.According to Yahoo News, in 2014 Kim Jong-un instructed farmers to mix human feces with animal waste and organic compost to make fertilizer for their fields. Yahoo notes, “With a lack of livestock to provide animal fertilizer, agriculturists poured the human excrement, also known as ‘night soil,’ on their fields.”Choi Min-Ho, a professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine who specializes in parasites, told Reuters, “Although we do not

Sarah Huckabee Sanders held a white house briefing today after a week of explosive sexual allegations against Judge Roy Moore, Democrat Al Sharpton and more Hollywood stars.During the briefing American Urban Radio Networks correspondent asked her about Hillary Clinton’s worried remarks on President Trump. It was a lob ball and Sanders hit it out of the park. April Ryan: I was talking to Hillary Clinton today about the president’s past and she said, “Look I worry about everything from his past because it tells you how he behaves in the present and the future.” What do you say to that as it

Kiss frontman Gene Simmons—until this week, a favorite guest on Fox News and Fox Business Network programs, which couldn’t get enough of his supposedly outrageous rock-star antics mixed with conservative politics—has been banned for life from the right-leaning cable channels.Fox finally had enough of Simmons after he crudely insulted female Fox staffers, taunted them and exposed his chest, and otherwise behaved like the “demon” character he plays onstage. Management was not amused, and Simmons’s photograph was promptly posted Wednesday at the security entrance of the company’s Manhattan headquarters along with a “do-not-admit” advisory.Simmons’s publicist didn’t immediately respond to a request

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), the chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, did not take kindly to some last minute jabs at the tax bill pushed by Senate Republicans from Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH). Brown, a progressive, said that this bill won’t help middle class families, and that it was once again a tax break for the rich. The House passed their tax reform package yesterday by a 227-205 vote; 13 Republicans voted no. Last night, the Senate Committee on Finance passed their version on a party line 14-12 vote, which paves way for the legislation to make its way onto the

It’s time to crown a new savage for 2017.This time, it’s seventh grader Jaxon Jester of Dekalb, Georgia. This week, Jackson’s school went on a field trip to CNN’s Atlanta headquarters but he wasn’t too jazzed about it. So he wore a shirt making fun of CNN’s logo with the letters “FNN” and “fake news network” underneath.(Photo/Tweet) Fortunately for CNN but very unfortunately for Jaxon, his school mandated he take the shirt off to participate in the field trip. The Jesters were unhappy about this decision – and rightfully so. They claim it violated their son’s First Amendment rights.Peachtree Charter Middle School

Once upon a time, Hillary Clinton thought the prospect of a presidential candidate declining to pledge to absolutely accept the sanctity of certified election results was "horrifying." She said so in a general election debate in order to attack Donald Trump -- who, at the time, was (recklessly) leaving the door open to challenge the outcome of an election most people expected him to lose. Chief among these people was Hillary Clinton. That´s why she excoriated his dodging and noncommittal answers on the question as dangerous to American democracy. One year after losing the presidential race, 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton is still questioning the “legitimacy” of President Trump’s victory, accusing Republicans of voter suppression tactics in swing states and Russians of influencing votes through a “disinformation campaign.” “I think that there are lots of questions about its legitimacy,” Clinton said of the election during a video interview posted online Friday by the liberal Mother Jones website. Clinton lamented how “we don’t have a method for contesting” the election in the United States and called for an independent commission to “get to the bottom of what happened.” She suggested that she

NBC host Megyn Kelly said President Trump is being hypocritical for condemning Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., for sexually harassing and assaulting a woman. "Who that has been accused of sexual assault would have the gall to preach to others about sexual misconduct. How infuriating that would be. How tone deaf, Mr. President," Kelly said on NBC´s "Today" show Friday morning. Trump had tweeted Thursday night that Franken should not be advocating for respect of women. NEW YORK — Kirsten Gillibrand is having a moment, whether she meant to or not. Going where no other prominent Democrat had before on Thursday evening by declaring that Bill Clinton should have resigned the presidency during the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the New York senator and potential 2020 presidential contender yet again found herself the face of a national conversation with the potential to dominate headlines and divide her party. At a time Democrats are desperate to keep the focus on accusations against President Donald Trump and Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore, Gillibrand’s stand shocked even some of her close allies. A Democratic congresswoman says she was sexually assaulted by a “prominent, historical” senator in the 1980s — and “everyone on Capitol Hill knew” that he was a harasser. “Historical figure, hand kept going up the leg, I took it off. A women member was at the table, recognized what was happening, and said, ‘switch places,´” Michigan Rep. Debbie Dingell told CNN. (Snip) Dingell said it happened in her first year of marriage to Rep. John Dingell, whom she wed in 1981. But despite the 36-year time gap, Dingell said she’s still afraid to name the prominent perv.
