I have always believed that regardless of the laws of a nation, the social fabric that binds it is woven of mutual trust between the people and their private and governmental institutions. Once that fabric is weakened, the dangers to an ordered society are extreme. This week, the holes in the U.S. social fabric are manifest, and they are caused by the administration´s ever-expanding lawlessness.. The statements by the high-tech self-exile Snowden set off alarms even among those who are willing to repose their confidence in the general integrity of our intelligence services.
The problem is that this has been a long time coming. Blaming Obama for the problems in our government masks the true depth of the problems. Obama is only able to do what he is doing because politicians of all stripes have been breaking down our system of checks and balances for years.
"Abrading" is a word of song. The Beatles were abrading the social fabric in order to take you down to Strawberry Fields. In Strawberry Fields where we are, 62% America hears "abrade," and thinks that a person smart with words sees something going on with fraying yarn, and there is a connection to "lawlessness;" but the "lawlessness" is poetic and has no mass, so there is no actionable consequence, no accountability, nothing to see here. The politically acceptable journalist formula remains in tact: "Outrage, outrage/insult, lush poetic description, vague analysis, risk avoidance overtone,[optional ´best lack all conviction´ disclaimer], and 2 inch deep close." Since WWIII is teeing up on the Jezreel Valley, how about a new formula, in simple words, in Hemingway present tense, with a call for action? [or, K.I.S.S., A.B.C.] Block it thusly: "Is this which we see with our eyes a coup, or does it resemble a coup? Discuss the velvet. Then consider how you, a deep thinking wordsmith, "move the ball/ concept down the field" to teach a country on the 5th grade level, to put pressure on a corrupt congress to exact accountability, by impeachment and by removal." "As Paul, the prize pupil of Gamaliel says, "I preach Christ and him crucified" -- I.e., no fru fru. Or consider Crosby, Stills and Nash in the song "4 Dead in Ohio": "What if you knew her, Lying dead on the ground; How could you run if you know?"
Of course Obama is "abrading the social fabric." He has to if he hopes to keep his campaign promise to "fundamentally transform the United States of America." He and the intellectuals and ideologues he represents think America´s social fabric is all wrong and must be unwoven so that it can be rewoven correctly, i.e. according to their personal political beliefs. I don´t like their ideology and I don´t have a great deal of respect for them as individuals, but at least they know what they are trying to do. Those ultimately to blame for the debacle that is the Obama presidency are the legions of American dopes who put and are keeping this administration in power. It´s not Obama´s fault that American voters were stupid enough to entrust him with the presidency. He could say like a famously corrupt Chicago pol of a bygone era that "I seen my opportunity and I took it."
Obama is the source of destruction of the social fabric but the republicans #3 are giving little or no leadership to stop it. What scandal have they exposed? My fear is that they will loose in 2014 because their supporters are so disheartened by their apparent lack of opposition and even support of Obama´s agenda. Their pushing immigration reform when the whole population is screaming for border security is sheer madness. They think that by pandering they will get a bigger portion of the 7% hispanic vote. What percentage of the much larger evangelical vote will they loose in the process? The only conclusion most voters can believe is that they do not believe any of the things they say at election time. My guess is that there are about 15 - 20 people in positions of leadership in Washington who do not secretly agree with most of the Obama agenda. The rest are doing a fan dance to get our support out of hope that they would help turn things around. I wish it were not so!
Amen, Clarice. I remember at Watergate, people noted which papers objected how soon to the wrongdoing, and those which were late or overly mild took criticism for it for a decade and more. So also this time. We will get the NSA under control and we will remember who helped and who didn´t. Amazingly the NYT seems to be helping the good guys. I am sorry to say the WSJ is standing up for the snoopers.
Individuals who have even visited Israel, or who observe Judaism, or who carry a Bible are banned from Saudi Arabia. Yet Saudi Arabia´s Israel-hating King Abdullah just flew in an Israeli scientist to have dinner with him, to enjoy some royal hospitality, accept a medal and the $200,000 "Arab Nobel Prize." It´s a not-so-subtle message to President Obama: the unthinkable can happen, so don´t assume the Saudis won´t join with Israel to bomb Iran. Obama´s new Iran policy moves the Mid-East closer to war over oil and religion -- Sunni Saudis versus Shia Iranians. There is no more strategic commodity than
Before "if you like your plan, you can keep it," the Obama left made a whole spate of false promises in the realm of sexuality. It´s worth connecting the dots between the folly of ObamaCare, an issue for which I wasn´t personally on the front lines, and the sweeping folly of sexual radicalism, an issue for which I was. In the rhetorical battlefield over sex and sexuality, the left rehearsed and perfected public-opinion warfare. These seasoned tactics led to the triumphal hubris of ObamaCare and the collateral damage of its inexorable implosion. Pick your antique allegory of overconfidence: the Tower of Babel,
"I´ve written two books," Senator Barack Obama told a crowd of teachers in Virginia on the campaign trial in July of 2008. The teachers applauded. "I actually wrote them myself," he added with a wink and a nod, and now the teachers exploded in laughter. They got the joke: Republicans were too stupid to write their books. Although few fussed over Obama´s second book, a first-person memoir/ policy brief published in 2006 titled The Audacity of Hope, Obama´s 1995 memoir Dreams from My Father had emerged as the sacred text in the cult of Obama "There is no underestimating the importance
Elect a Chicago community organizer (twice) as your president and you should not be surprised to find that all he is capable of is spewing propaganda and dividing us by personalizing attacks on those who oppose his grandiose, wildly impractical efforts at reshaping our lives to suit his sophomoric view of the good life. As the obvious failure of ObamaCare has become evident to all but his most blinkered cultists, Obama fell back this week on upping the propagandizing and deflecting attention from his failures with even more lies. His organizing arm OFA (Organizing for America) urged supporters to use this year´s
Those who wrote the PPACA legislation were much more brilliant than most conservatives have given them credit for. They have hidden a landmine in the way it all works that will ensure an eventual takeover of the entire health care industry by the government. Let me first clarify my professional interest. I have been a vendor of software and services to both insurance companies and providers, and therefore have a deep understanding of the health care industry and what the ACA will do to it. I do not work for any insurance companies or medical providers, nor do I own stock
MONTICELLO, N.Y. (CBSNewYork) — A video recording shows the mayor of the Sullivan County municipality of Monticello in a heated confrontation after being arrested by his own police officers. (Snip) He was taken into custody after showing up to take a look at a serious car accident on Main Street. A volunteer firefighter noticed the mayor looked drunk, according to police, and notified law enforcement. Jenkins was arrested on the spot. In a video recorded at his own police headquarters, a man identified as Jenkins was shown seated in a chair with one hand handcuffed to a wall. During the first
If you think ObamaCare is bad, just wait till you hear the new "peace" agreement that is due to be imposed on the Middle East over the coming weeks. Even if it works, a giant if, it will make the world much more dangerous: 1. Iran will have nuclear weapons, or it will be balanced right on the edge -- within one month or less to make nukes. 2. Saudi Arabia and Egypt will go nuclear, to balance Iran. 3. America´s role as a guarantor of peace will be blown, crushed by Obama´s betrayal of Israel and the Arabs. America´s nuclear umbrella, which
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
US President Barack Obama may have moved the masses attending Nelson Mandela’s memorial service with his stirring eulogy, but it was his grinning "selfie" with the Danish and British premiers that set social networks abuzz. In a candid moment captured by a photographer, Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt can be seen holding up her smartphone, with Obama lending a helping hand, as they pose for a picture with David Cameron, all three of them smiling broadly in their seats at Soweto’s World Cup stadium.(Snip)Mashable, the news and technology website, ran the photograph under the headline: ‘‘Dear Obama: Funerals are no place
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
