BOSTON —U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren is calling on Congress to stop student loan interest rates from doubling this summer. The Massachusetts Democrat introduced a bill Tuesday which would let students pay the same interest rate on their government loans as banks. Student loan interest rates are set to jump from 3.4 to 6.8 percent in July. Warren said banks can borrow from the Federal Reserve at an interest rate of less than 1 percent.

Watch out Hillary. The people who pushed Obama to the front in 2008 plan to have Warren run for President in 2016.

Student Loans are a subsidy for lefty universities. This has nothing to do with education or with helping young people prepare for life. It is all about money for Marxist professors.

Lieawatha is essentially making it law for taxpayers to pay for worthless degrees with no chance of a return either of the money or in productivity.

Tuition rates have wildly outpaced inflation. That is how she pulled down 300K a year as Harvard prof.

Maybe she should submit a bill to reign in tuition and prof salaries.

With 11% plus delinquencies registering right now, the rate on these should be over 12%. Anything less is a subsidy. Someone is taking a loss somewhere, more than likely the taxpayers. There´s more that $1 Trillion dollars of these, so this is some real money.

Warren is a typical MA Democrat (in the mold of such luminaries as James Michael Curley (aka The Jailbird) and Ted Kennedy (The Sandwich King). Her political life revolves around lying and giving away other people´s money to buy lowfo votes. Has she ever shelled out a cent of her own money to help anyone?

Fauxchonatas know bill smell like dead buffalo and the little white fathers in House will reject. But as Poster #1 notes in smoke signal, this squaw is counting moons until 2016. She know wife of Big Clinton have Benghazi round neck, and not able to run. Faux will apply war paint as leaves start to fall in 2015. Lucianne readers can expect see former Indian maiden hunting buffalo on plains of Iowa in early 2016.

If this country has enough fools to reelect Chief Red Inside in 2012, it will sadly have enough to elect this fraud from Massachusetts.

This is the same financial/economic genius who recently said the minimum wage should be $22/hr. The people who elected this disaster should never again be allowed to vote.

There is a young person held captive in Massachusetts today who is not allowed to participate in religious ceremonies, or visit family without government agents watching. No, it’s not accused Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. It’s 15-year-old mitochondrial disease patient and nonterrorist Justina Pelletier. U.S. District Court Judge George O’Toole Jr. ruled Wednesday that the now-20-year-old charged with four deaths and injuring more than 260 people should be able to see his sisters without an FBI agent present. The feds can appeal, but he says their case would have to be “pretty convincing.” “Can you believe it?”

A person is in custody tonight after police report suspicious bags were found at the finish line of the Boston Marathon on Boylston Street. An eye-witness told the Herald tonight a man dressed all in black and wearing a black veil walked down the middle of Boylston Street, with a backpack on his back, chanting "Boston strong, Boston strong." "He was weird looking," said Matthew VanWinkle. "He was wearing a black veil, a black hat, and no shoes." The bomb squad is now on the scene and police have pushed everyone back. A bomb squad member yelled "fire in the hole" as they

Kyiv- A recording proving that Russia is backing separatists in eastern Ukraine has surfaced online. The SBU (Security Service of Ukraine) taped the operatives, whose code names are "Nose," "Adler," "Shooter" and "Agath," discussing strategy, weapon stockpiles, and requests for reinforcements. The SBU has identified the number calling the separatists in Ukraine as having a Russian +7 area code. The person with the Russian number asks Shooter to contact him. Later in the conversation, Shooter reports “fighting off the first (Ukrainian) attack” and shooting “some significant (highly-ranked Ukrainian) people."

Frank Armstrong never got the chance to know 8-year-old Martin Richard in this life. Nevertheless, the BPD captain in charge of Area E-18 in Hyde Park keeps a picture of the marathon bombings’ youngest casualty on the wall in his office. The Dorchester boy who loved the Bruins, and the 53-year-old cop, who grew up five houses away from where the Richard family lives, share a bond that is as heartbreaking as it is heartwarming. For nearly 12 hours on that fateful Patriots Day a year ago, Frank Armstrong led a squad of Boston police officers who stood watch over

BOSTON - After taking heat from some of its own over a decision to grant an honorary degree to an advocate for Muslim women who has made comments critical of Islam, Brandeis University withdrew the honor Tuesday night. The university said in a statement that Somali-born Ayaan Hirsi Ali would no longer receive the honorary degree, which it had planned to award her at the May 18 commencement. Ali, a member of the Dutch Parliament from 2003 to 2006, has been quoted as making comments critical of Islam. That includes a 2007 interview with Reason Magazine in which she

About 10 investigators with Boston Fire´s Arson unit this morning entered the four-story brownstone on Beacon Street where six days ago a roaring blaze claimed the lives of two firefighters. The arson investigators entered the building around 10 a.m. On Wednesday, Lt. Edward Walsh and Michael Kennedy died after being trapped in the basement of the 298 Beacon St. building during the roaring 9-alarm blaze. Deputy Chief Joseph Finn, who commanded the firefighters last week and made the decision to pull firefighters from the wind-driven fire, was also on scene. He had no comment when he exited the building shortly

A day after the flames thwarted his efforts to save Lt. Edward J. Walsh and firefighter Michael R. Kennedy in the basement of a blazing Beacon Street brownstone, Capt. Neal Mullane of Ladder 18 in South Boston, his own scalp gashed and burned, found himself drawn to the Back Bay firehouse that has become a kind of chapel for his grieving brethren. Mullane, 42, was one of the officers tapped at a moment’s notice to command as the Rapid Intervention Team at the nine-alarm fire. He described the desperate detail to the Herald’s Laurel J. Sweet.

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

In a speech earlier this week, Lisa O. Monaco, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, insisted that American parents must be vigilant because their “confrontational” children could be on the verge of becoming terrorists. Monaco’s full, prepared text is available here. She presented the speech, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism and the Power of Community,” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government on April 15. Monaco began her remarks by eloquently describing the lives tragically lost last year during the Boston Marathon bombings. Interestingly, the Harvard grad failed to mention the religion or the motive of brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan
