Since November, the prospective death of the Republican coalition has hovered over American politics, and the autopsy has gained renewed attention in light of the debates over gay marriage and immigration, both of which split the GOP from rising chunks of the electorate. I’m an advocate of the theory, first put forward a decade ago by Ruy Teixeira and John Judis, that the electorate is forming a natural Democratic majority. The Republican Party appears to be caught in a double bind, in which the electorate is growingly progressively less white, and even younger white voters hold less conservative views than older ones. What’s more, evidence suggests that voters maintain the partisan allegiances they form at a young age. The picture looks grim for the GOP.
The problem the obamunists are going to have is that the Makers are going to get fed up with the Takers and Looters and will take their chips off the table. They will do so in such a way that the Looters won´t be able to loot any more and will be left trying to explain to the zombie Takers why they don´t have the handout for them. The Looters will blame the Makers, of course, but that will not get the Takers their handout. Things are going to get ugly. Good thing DHS has all those hollow point bullets.
"But the changing contours of America really do seem to have swept aside the old conservative majority, and there’s no foreseeable event to bring it back."
Therein lies the rub, Mr. Chait. Events have a way of changing historical trends. A collapse of the economy, a war with DPRK and/or Iran, or a showdown with China and/or Russia can quickly redirect the national momentum. It probably will. The question is whether the nation will survive its next challenge.
Does chait even know that after Carter the democrat party died and became the Progressive junta. Since Obama is 100 times worse than carter his majority will roll over into the American peoples socialist Party and die in the flames of Economic failure and the inability to buy support from the fringes. The real danger to a Republican surge is the radical 20% that wasn´t present when Reagan won.
I have come to the conclusion that if the Democrats mouths are moving, they are lying. Whatever they are saying, you can turn it around and it will resemble the truth...maybe. If 0bama says he is not a dictator, that´s exactly what he wants to be; if Debbie Wasserman Schlutz says there is not enough money for the democrats, you can bet they are sitting on a pile of money ready for propaganda; if Chuck U. Schumer says there are "metrics" in place for border security, you can bet there there is zero, nada, nothing in place for border security. It´s an exercise in mental gymnastics--try i, and you will find out more truth from the Democrats´ lying mouths than you realize.
What happens if they grant an amnesty and a special path to citizenship to US voting rights for 11 to 20 million illegal aliens with the vast majority of them eventually becoming liberal Democrat voters?
What happens when that 11 to 20 million legalized aliens bring another 11 to 20 million of their foreign family members here and with the vast majority of them eventually becoming liberal Democrat voters?
What happens if 400,000 low skilled foreign workers are allowed into the USA each year, never have to leave, get to bring their foreign families here, and the vast majority of those 400,000 plus their family members eventually become liberal Democrat voters each year?
Do you think that is out of the question? Think again, as that is what the liberal Democrats are planning on doing now, through their comprehensive immigration reform bill that is really one huge amnesty and open borders proposal, designed to in the long-term change the political balance of the USA permanently to the favor of the liberal Democrats.
Major U.S. cellphone providers received more than $20 million from law enforcement agencies in conjunction with more than 1.1. million user information requests in 2012, according to documents released Monday by Sen. Ed Markey, D-Mass. Five of the seven companies queried offered precise or ballpark figures for the revenue they received from law enforcement in 2012. AT&T said it received $10,298,000, T-Mobile USA said approximately $11 million, Verizon Wireless said less than $5 million, U.S. Cellular said $241,000 and C Spire said $55,000.
NEW DELHI— The Dalai Lama will not attend memorial services for fellow Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nelson Mandela in South Africa, where the Buddhist spiritual leader has twice been unable to obtain a visa, a spokesman said Monday. Tenzin Takhla gave no specific reason for the Dalai Lama missing the memorial service in Johannesburg and funeral in Mandela´s hometown, saying only that "logistically it´s impossible at this time." The Dalai Lama — based in the Indian hill town of Dharamsala since he fled China in 1959 — was welcomed to South Africa in 1996 and met with Mandela when he was South
Newspaper editors typically operate behind the scenes, overseeing reporters inside the newsroom and outside the spotlight. But since Ricardo Baca was named the marijuana editor of The Denver Post last month, he has been celebrated across the globe. He has appeared on CNN and “The Colbert Report.” Long-lost high school acquaintances have surfaced, with one inviting him to his friend’s basement for a smoke. Emails have flooded in from freelancers and readers, offering up their expertise on the subject matter. “We’re taking an extremely credible, professional approach to this,” Mr. Baca said. “I was surprised that it was such an immediate punch
There has been much ado about MSNBC anchor Martin Bashir´s contemptible attack on Sarah Palin, which has now resulted in Bashir resigning from the left wing network. But to those of us who write from the right his remarks are anything but unique. Despicable remarks are hurled at us all the time and the only difference about the Bashir flap is that ours usually come anonymously via email or snail mail. In my experience, the most hateful responses I´ve ever received are for columns addressing either gay rights or radical Islam. In 2007, I wrote a column for the New York
4 Things the MSM Won’t Tell You About Obama’s Inequality Speech: Now that the excitement has died down You have to admire President Obama for choosing to give a speech declaring that the fight against “growing inequality”–specifically economic inequality–is “the defining challenge of our time” and the “focus” of “all our efforts”–given that: a. Five years into his presidency he so far hasn’t done anything to stop growing income inequality–the problem has gotten worse on his watch. b. He doesn’t have any proposals (“It’s time to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act”) that come close to solving the problem as he defines it.
I’ve never been flogged in the public square, but now I have a rough idea what it’s like. On Thursday, Harvey Weinstein, the US distributor of the Judi Dench-Steve Coogan film “Philomena,” placed a full-page, color attack ad in The New York Times that screamed my name in blood-red letters. “The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and USA Today ALL PRAISE ‘PHILOMENA’ WITH A 92 % CERTIFIED FRESH SCORE ON Rotten Tomatoes,” read the ad. “BUT THE NEW YORK POST’S KYLE SMITH HAS A DIFFERENT OPINION. ‘ANOTHER HATEFUL ATTACK ON CATHOLICS.’ ” The ad (now brightening the wall over
Dayna Morales, the server who claimed last month to have been left a note about her “lifestyle” instead of a tip, was fired from her restaurant Sunday, and is reportedly returning the donations she received in the outpouring of sympathy after her story went viral. Morales, an openly-gay server at Gallop Asian Bistro in Bridgewater, NJ became a cause celebre after she posted a receipt informing her she had not been tipped because of her lifestyle. But her story began to unravel when the couple who left the receipt disputed Morales’ story, and provided bank statements showing they had in fact tipped
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
