MSNBC Panelist Pitches Sotomayor

National Review Online, by Andrew Johnson

On MSNBC Live over the weekend, New York magazine’s contributing editor Chris Smith toyed with the idea of Supreme Court justice Sonia Sotomayor as the next pope. “Here’s a trifecta: Latin, female, American. It would do a lot of good,” Smith said. “That’s not going to happen, but it would speak to some of the issues about how the Church needs to open itself up.” He added that finding someone who “has mixed it up in the real world . . . would be a good thing for whoever is pope” and believes

I am F´ing sick and tired of being told we need to open ourselves up ... meaning we have to bend over and grab our ankles for some totally unqualified black or hispanic just because they´re black or hispanic. Intense times are coming.

The MSM hasn´t a clue and the longer they go on, the more ignorant they appear.

Applying politics of inclusion to faith. Really just a chance to lambaste the Church for not allowing women to become priests. I found myself wondering why someone of faith from Latin America would find it inspiring for a liberal, with no history of religious beliefs or works, from the US would be named Pope.

A liberal will take every opportunity to destroy anything traditional. They go thru life leaving a trail of destruction returning only to cause even further chaos when they "fix" what they themselves caused.

What better example do we have than Obama.

How well did "opening up" work for mainstream Protestant churches? They are pro-gay, pro-abortion and pro everything else that´s deviant. Episcopalian, Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian churches are lucky if a couple dozen people show up on Sunday morning. Meanwhile the mean old closed up Catholic churches are standing room only.

If you believe in nothing, you´ll believe anything.

Sotomayor´s big beef is growing up in the projects. To build the projects neighborhoods were ripped up and millions spent on building poor-quality buildings with money wasted on politicians and their pals. Crime is out of control because of oversight by liberal judges and the ACLU. She does come off as a nice decent woman. My nomination for pope would be Jeremy Irons but me and MSNBC do not have a dog in this hunt.

The way to prevent abortionists like convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell from occurring again is to build more Planned Parenthood clinics, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said at a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Thursday about legislation that would prevent abortion after 20 weeks nationwide. “I would urge my colleagues to think about the extent to which he, Dr. Gosnell, represented the poor quality of health care services available in poorer communities,” Nadler said at the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice hearing. “We should be working to make sure that high quality

House Speaker John A. Boehner on Thursday flatly ruled out chances of the House passing the Senate’s immigration bill, saying his chamber will debate its own bill instead. The Ohio Republican and his top lieutenants in the party issued a joint statement that seemed designed to tamp down some of the momentum behind the Senate bill, which emerged from a committee on a bipartisan 13-5 vote this week, and to stake out a House GOP position. “While we applaud the progress made by our Senate colleagues, there are numerous ways in which

During friendly questioning from Rep. Hank “I fear that Guam will capsize!” Johnson in Congress last week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered the following statement. In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material. This is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy. He made that statement before the facts about the sweep on Fox News’ James Rosen were known. Since then, it’s come to light that Holder himself approved the subpoena that, among other things, named Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator.

As the saying goes, scratch a liberal and you’ll find a tyrant underneath. NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is but the latest example. He shoved a very restrictive and ill-considered gun law through the state legislature in the dead of night. Among its flaws, the law criminalized police officers who tote firearms with magazines that hold more than seven rounds. Sheriffs around the state have objected to the law. Cuomo summoned them to the state capitol under what appears to be a false pretext, and used the meeting to threaten them into silence. Cuomo invited

What a fantastic talent liberals possess, the ability to talk out of both sides of their mouths. One side utters platitudes about campaign finance reform and the nefarious influence of money in politics, while the other whispers in the ears of oligarchs and plutocrats. One side slanders Republicans as the tools of corporate interests, while the other solicits donations from some of the largest corporations in the world. The next journalist to examine influence peddling on K Street need only walk two blocks south, to H Street.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
