Eye-popping Costs for Employer-
Provided Health Insurance

Employees at larger companies are getting some eye-opening news in the W-2 statements they are receiving this month listing their 2012 income. The health overhaul law required employers to add a line reporting the total cost of employer-sponsored health-insurance coverage. “To some, it will be a surprise, perhaps even a shock,” Robert Pear reports in a New York Times piece, “To Open Eyes, W-2s List Cost of Providing a Health Plan.” Prof. Nicole Huberfeld, an expert on health law at the University of Kentucky, who received her W-2 form on Monday, said, “Most people

"The number is being disclosed on a tax form even though health benefits are not counted as taxable income — yet."

Since 98% of taxpayers had their income tax rates made permanent on 12/31/12 (applause for John Boehner), more income has to be subject to taxation. The W-2 reporting requirement could eventually permit this.

Employers should also list the cost of liability insurance, uniforms etc because many employees only see the money coming into a business. Others think the total cost is only the amount they pay.

All the people who get their insurance through their employers need to be aware of the cost, and they should also be aware that that is a tax-free benefit (for now, anyway.) And quit their bellyaching about their employers!

They also should be aware of the other costs their employer incurs for the privilege of being an employer--half of the social security costs, medicare costs, and all of the unemployment insurance costs.

#4-5...True but also remember Workman´s compensation.

Employees are under a mushroom when it comes to their pay. Most believe all they earn is what they take home minus income taxes. They should be aware of all those costs the employer has to pay which, technically, has to count as their "gross income" (from the employer´s standpoint) and realize "take home" is not their total earnings.

Members of the military have the same situation. Free healthcare, non contribution to retirement and other benefits all have to be counted into the gross salary. But, like civilians, they only see "take home" and not the gross.

One of the most asinine aspects of Obama´s power grabs is he´s spending trillions buying votes already has in his pocket. In order to grow this group in need of handouts,he has to bring them in from other countries, with Mexico being the primary target.
Not only does Obama not enforce the border,he´s sending fliers to Mexicans telling free food and healthcare await them on their arrival.Maybe I´m crazy but i see this as an act of treason, aiding and abetting this country to go bankrupt..

This moron uses kids as props to get gun laws passed but he couldn´t care less about the future debt they´ll inherit as this failed attempt to turn America into a socialist country.

Promoting the general welfare doesn´t mean promoting foreigners to welfare.

Now I know why unions were exempt from paying taxes on cadillac plans. One union guy reported his company paid $20,000 for his policy. Talk about a cadillace plan for a greedy union...

We need a d--- line on the w-2 showing how much the employee owes the government for the national debt and a paydown schedule stapled to it.

Audit Findings Weeks Ago

The White House´s chief lawyer learned weeks ago that an audit of the Internal Revenue Service likely would show that agency employees inappropriately targeted conservative groups, a senior White House official said Sunday. That disclosure has prompted a debate over whether the president should have been notified at that time. In the week of April 22, the Office of the White House Counsel and its head, Kathryn Ruemmler, were told by Treasury Department attorneys that an inspector general´s report was nearing completion, the White House official said. In that conversation, Ms. Ruemmler learned that "a small

In a crowded field, Chicago billionaire, bundler, sub-prime banker and union buster Penny Pritzker is clearly the worst nominee that President Barack Obama has chosen for his second term cabinet. Though the position for which she has been nominated, Secretary of Commerce, often goes to a presidential crony or political insider, Pritzker would exceed all her predecessors and peers with her shocking record of cronyism and failure. Pritzker ran Superior Bank into the ground by dealing in sub-prime mortgages. As Breitbart News noted recently, the bank´s depositors lost $6000, on average, and the taxpayers

Barack Obama, speaking to a crowd in Baltimore on Friday, said, “I know it can seem frustrating sometimes when it seems like Washington’s priorities aren’t the same as your priorities. I know it often seems like folks down there are more concerned with their jobs than with yours.” Earlier in the week, when speaking about the IRS scandal, Obama said, “I’ve reviewed the Treasury Department watchdog’s report, and the misconduct that it uncovered is inexcusable. It’s inexcusable, and Americans are right to be angry about it, and I am angry about it. I will not tolerate

As NewsBusters reported two weeks ago, CBS’s Bob Schieffer is fed up with the White House’s talking points concerning what happened at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last September. His impatience continued on Sunday´s Face the Nation when Obama senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer gave stock answers to questions about the three crises facing the President leading Schieffer to first accuse his guest of taking "exactly the approach that the Nixon administration took" and finally scolding him by asking, "Why are you here today? Why isn´t the White House Chief of Staff here to tell us what happened?"

MINEOLA, N.Y. — A Hofstra University student being held in a headlock at gunpoint by an intruder was accidently shot and killed by a police officer who had responded to the home invasion at an off-campus home, police said Saturday. Junior public relations major Andrea Rebello was shot once in the head early Friday morning by an officer who opened fire after the masked intruder pointed a gun at the officer while holding the 21-year-old student, Nassau County homicide squad Lt. John Azzata said. In a tense confrontation with the officer, gunman Dalton Smith "menaces

I have always been skeptical of electric vehicles, mostly because of my perception that electric car makers are more interested in subsisting on government subsidies than in competing on a level playing field for my business. So I was intrigued when I got an email this morning from Jeff Evanson, Tesla Motors’ Vice-President of investor relations. Evanson, a long-time Power Line reader, pointed out that the company raised over $1 billion last week, and will use a portion of those proceeds to pay off its loan with the Department of Energy ahead of schedule. This will make Tesla

Here is a woman we will need to learn much more about in the coming weeks. Sarah Hall Ingram is a highly valued employee at the IRS. In the last three years she has received $103,390 in bonuses for her excellent work. She was the Commissioner of the Tax-Exempt and Government Entitles Division. Under her leadership, groups that expressed a fear of large, out-of-control government were systematically crushed by her branch of our large, out-of-control government. They were specifically singled out for harassment for political reasons. Secret information about the conservative applicants was leaked to leftist

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Ironically, the attack was reminiscent of the one in Benghazi he has repeatedly denied the Administration he represents bears any responsibility for. “Changed twelve times?!” came the cries. And with good reason. We were misled; no, lied to.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups.
