CHRIS MATTHEWS: People that believe in border protection, who believe you can stop somebody from coming into this country by higher towers, or more drones, or more people working there, I think are right-wingers or idiots. If you want to work and you´re looking for a job, you´re going to come to America, Congresswoman. You´re going to come in here and you´re going to find a way in, whether you have to take a boat, an airplane, or swim. Whatever you have to do, you´re going to get here. And my question is, are we going to have a

Yeah, he´s a moron. But most of the people don´t understand the size of the problem. Open Google Maps and search Brownsville TX. Then zoom in on the border. The real border is easily 10 times the point-to-point distance and it moves as the river meanders. Fencing the centerline of the river is impossible, and fencing the bank IS nearly so.

The fly in the ointment and the flaw in the argument is the unexamined and in fact untrue assumption that all illegal immigrants are in the country to work and that they all work for businesses that can be regulated. It is also false that a nation is unable to control its borders. And it is a false either/or choice to oppose border security and strict enforcement of work permits. Obviously both are part of the solution. For a guy who seems reasonably bright, Chris Matthews can dish out more confused and irrational thinking in less time than anyone else I can think of. He seems to lack the capacity to examine and analyze whatever pops into his mind at the moment but instead has to blurt it out on the spot, ready or not. He serves as an excellent example of the liberal habit of using emotions to do his thinking for him - and, of course, of starting with his conclusions and working backwards to construct whatever emotional "arguments" he can muster to support them. Confusion hath here truly made his masterpiece.

So, Chrissy -- how many illegals are living in your house?

You don´t see the point of that? Well, Chrissy, you´re telling all of us that we have to open our homes [America] to illegals. So clearly, it´s right [and necessary] to ask if you have. If you speak from knowledge or from undemonstrated assumptions?

Pay attention, Chrissy -- America is great, it is necessary, it is unique in part because America and Americans show the way. It isn´t great because it gives away what Americans, under American principles and values, have built -- culturally, economically, socially, scientifically, and the rest.

Furthermore, neither you nor anyone else on the Left [hmmm -- or on the "Right"] has any claim or right to give away the blood and toil-earned heritages to those whose only interest is in having, but not in earning, what Americans have earned and built for themselves and for their posterity.

Got it?

Bravo, #9.

The other point, so rarely mentioned, is that an open border also lets in people who may wish us harm. We don´t know who is crossing the border. Are they workers? Are they people looking for a handout from our welfare system? Are they terrorists?

Another pesky inconvenient truth that Tweety Bird Matthews has left out is that the uneducated masses from South of the Border whom he claims come here to ´´do the work Americans won´t do´´ can only do so because our liberal failure of a welfare system pays the Americans who should be doing those jobs to feel entitled and sit on their arses and freeload of the taxpayers. If we got rid of the welfare freeloaders, those jobs would dry up in a dayumed hurry as the freeloaders realize they´d better flip burgers and mop floors or they won´t be able to eat.

This guy is a moron. An effective enhanced e-verify system that could keep most illegal alien impostors with bogus ID out of US employment would do more to stop illegal immigration then trying to stop them at the borderline. Why would most prospective illegal aliens come here if they knew that they had little chance to get a job, get on any of the social welfare programs, or eventually be granted amnesty?

The answer is they would not come in the first place.

#2: "Fencing the centerline of the river is impossible, and fencing the bank IS nearly so."

What can be conceived can be created. The Great Wall of China, over 4000 miles long, was built before the advent of modern construction machinery. The fence on our southern border would not have to be built along the centerline of the river or even along its banks. It could be built up to several hundred yards inside U.S. territory. I picture TWO fences, a primary and secondary separated by a "no man´s land", with watchtowers and heavily patrolled by vehicles and soldiers on foot. Aliens captured between the fences would be escorted back to their country. No one would make it to the secondary fence. No one would be hurt provided they submitted to the patrols and returned home. It would be expensive to build and maintain, but I do not think it could possibly cost more than what illegal aliens are costing now.

It will never happen.

In a sense, he is right. There isn´t enough security to stop people who are determined to get in.

The problem we have is that the Federal govenrment and in many cases sanctuary cites and state that are bound and dtermined NOT to enforce the law once people do sneak in. If we simply enforced the law, fewer people would be ´rewarded´ for sneaking in and fewer would attempt to do so.

Reply 20 - Posted by: metalman2, 1/29/2013 1:48:54 PM     (No. 9146689)

We don´t need a fence, that´s too easily defeated. We need to eliminate the reasons the illegal come here, it´s just that simple.

Free education, free citizenship to babies born here, food stamps, charities designed to cloth and house them, etc. With out these incentives the vast majority of illegals would stay put.

Reply 22 - Posted by: Teleologicus, 1/29/2013 2:14:15 PM     (No. 9146768)

The risk/benefit ratio is massively weighted in favor of potential border crossers, suggesting that no level of detection and apprehension is apt to discourage invaders.

The term invaders is used advisedly. How would Americans -even Leftists- respond if informed that millions upon millions of people were crossing the border in a short span of time? This is what happened in many places on the margins of the late Western Roman empire.

The famed Western barbarian invasions were frequently peaceful and in slow motion - migrations rather than armed assaults. And the Romans came to depend more and more upon the barbarians to make up and even command their essentially all volunteer army. America´s dependence upon cheap labor and its unwillingness to protect its borders has an ominous precedent here.

When the (supposed) figure of illegal aliens has reached 11 million, most of them from south of the border, we are talking about a migration or an invasion. Left unchecked, allowed to continue, it will destroy the republic. The irony is that foreigners come to America to get away from the very things they bring with them and introduce into American culture. This cannot go on indefinitely.

Really Chrissy? Do you have a fence around your house? Do you lock your doors? You must be a right wing loony if you do! You don´t need those "borders" at your house! You need to just let anyone walk into your house and make themselves at home. They should be able to sit in your chair, watch your television, eat your food and do whatever they feel like in there. Why not? That is what you are advocating for our country. Same thing!

In a new editorial, the folks at National Review came out strongly against the immigration plan being sponsored by the "Gang of Eight," a group of Senators that includes Marco Rubio (R-FL), calling the bill "Rubio´s Folly." National Review urges Senator Rubio to vote against the bill he has helped craft. It slams the proposed legislation as, "an amnesty-first, enforcement-maybe program drawn up mainly to reflect the priorities of 11 million citizens of other countries rather than the concerns of more than 300 million citizens of the United States." A pair of centrist senators introduced a bill Wednesday to soften the employer mandate in President Obama´s healthcare law. The healthcare law requires employers to offer coverage to employees who work more than 30 hours per week. Some employers have said they will reduce workers´ hours to avoid the mandate. Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) proposed a bill to move the threshold to 40 hours per week, saying the employer mandate should match the traditional definition of a full-time worker. Marco Rubio made another one of his seemingly endless appearances on Sean Hannity’s program to advocate amnesty legislation. Rubio told Hannity that he has opposed amendments by Republican Senators to improve the legislation’s enforcement provisions because a new enforcement provision will be proposed tomorrow that is tougher and more effective than what has been proposed so far. Rand Paul’s amendment, which Rubio voted against, would have given Congress, not the Department of Homeland Security, the ultimate authority to determine if the border is effectively secure. It would also have included enhanced security measures, such as requiring a

To a remarkable degree, liberalism has been institutionalized as an official ideology, funded by your tax dollars. This editorial in Investors Business Daily explains, in shocking detail, how Obamacare is being used to fund Democratic Party operatives and drive Democratic Party enrollment: The Obama administration granted a whopping $910 million to California to set up its insurance exchange. That money is not for bandages, surgery, nurses and doctors to care for the sick. …Shockingly, the $910 million is slated for bureaucracy, including rich compensation packages for exchange employees ($360,000 a year for the executive director) and contracts for

The popularity of Obamacare has crashed to its lowest level in nearly two years, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll. Kaiser´s monthly tracking poll found that just 35 percent have a favorable view of the health reform being put into place Jan. 1 while 43 percent view it unfavorably.
