| Phil Mickelson isn´t the first pro golfer to hold the belief that the taxes in California are too high. Tiger Woods, the world´s third highest-paid athlete, moved from California for that very reason, he said Tuesday at the Farmer´s Insurance Open. The remarks Woods made were in response to Mickelson´s suggestion that "drastic changes" were in store for him because of changes in federal and state taxes.(Snip)"I moved out of here back in ´96 for that reason," Woods said of the taxes. "I enjoy Florida, but also I understand what he was, I think, trying to say.
|
Comments: Tiger´s father´s military/intelligence background led to strategic thinking and career planning. Phil, 5 years older, turned pro 4 years before Tiger, and started his foundation 12 years later in 2004 and now is looking to make a move out of CA after 20 years on the tour...
Tiger went pro in ´96, launched his foundation in ´96 based in his home community in CA, thus avoiding any blowback when he moved to FLA in ´96...

Years ago Sir Charles Barkley was disgusted with his tax bite and made noise about running for office.

I was watching the Golf Channels ´Morning Drive´ Program after Phil Mickelson made his tax comments. He received a lot of criticism from the hypocrites who moderate the program. The show originates from Florida and most all of the people working for the station and commenting on the program live in Tax Free Florida. They should shut up and support his right to free speech.
Of course it is frustrating for a talented person who works hard, to resent paying a huge amount of taxes to support people who won´t work and others who don´t belong here. When he moves away, I hope me also moves his charities to a state that appreciates excellence, talent, hard work and good will.

Poster 2 I´m not surprised the morning drive guys were critical of Mickelson´s complaints about high taxes. As of a couple of years ago, the GC became a subsidiary of collectivist NBC. Therefore, the on the air "talent" at the GC may turn left especially as the old guard at the network leaves through attrition and otherwise. Since NBC took over, according to my observation, the GC has become increasingly self-important:

Justice Learned Hand, many decades ago, said that there is nothing wrong with trying to reduce one´s income tax liability.
In fact, one could argue that Phil Mickelson should have done this years ago. Only a fool would remain a resident of California, especially when he makes most of his income in other states...

Don´t apologize, Tiger. You and Phil have created more jobs than the Obama Administration.

Her eyes are transfixed as she struggles to prise away the powerful hand squeezing around her throat. Glamorous TV cook Nigella Lawson looks stunned to be attacked by her art collector husband Charles Saatchi during a vicious row at their favourite London restaurant. Fellow diners and passers-by at Scott’s in Mayfair were shocked to see the advertising multimillionaire reduce his celebrity wife to tears. Saatchi launched a tirade of angry words. Four times he grasped her around the neck with Nigella, 53, looking powerless and petrified. At first he used only his left hand, then both.

U.S. and Israeli defence chiefs on Friday reaffirmed cooperation to counter threats from Iran and condemned the alledged use of chemical weapons by Syrian government forces. U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and his Israeli counterpart Moshe Yaalon reiterated during a meeting that the two allies "will continue to work together to counter threats posed by Iran and remain prepared for a range of contingencies," said Pentagon spokesman George Little in a statement. Millions of Iranians voted to choose a new president on Friday, with prospects unclear whether the country will continue hardline diplomacy especially with the West on nuclear issues.

The Israeli defense minister said Friday there is no peaceful solution for Syria in sight, just hours after the U.S. announced a newly invigorated policy toward the two-year-old civil war. Minister Moshe Ya´alon, the former chief of staff to the Israeli Defense Forces, said he cannot predict the outcome of the internal conflict that has caused 90,000 deaths in Syria, according to U.N. estimates, despite the White House announcement Thursday that it would begin new military and diplomatic policies in response to the regime´s use of chemical weapons. 52 days after an Israeli general publicly declared that Syria has used chemical weapons against rebels, the Obama administration reached the same conclusion, and used the finding to justify announcing it would send small arms to the side of the victims. “I will not say ‘We told you so,’ only, okay, the proof is there, so there’s no more question about it,” says Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor, taking with a smile the easy part of the equation now laid before Israel. As for the hard part: “Now, what should be done? It’s not for Israel to say,

Documentary-makers in Germany have claimed that legalising prostitution has turned the country´s capital Berlin into ´Europe´s biggest brothel.´ Sex trade laws were radically liberalised by the German government in 2002 but a documentary called Sex - Made In Germany estimates that one million men pay for sex every day. The film was based on two years of research captured using hidden cameras and explores Berlin´s world of ´flat-rate´ brothels where customers pay €49 (£42) for as much sex as they want. (Snip) It is thought that around two thirds of the country´s 400,000 sex workers come from abroad.

The British army has more horses than tanks and must stop opposing spending cuts, a senior Treasury minister said today. (Snip) According to latest figures in Parliament the MoD had more than 500 horses, including 417 on ceremonial duties and 82 held by the Defence Animal Centre for rest or treatment or waiting to be rehomed. Two ponies are kept by the Parachute Regiment as mascots. By contrast, after the strategic defence and security review, the Army´s has only 227 Challenger 2 tanks. Last month it also emerged that the Ministry of Defence has 604 spin doctors

Pope Francis has acknowledged the existence of a ´gay lobby´ inside the Vatican´s secretive administration for the first time. Speaking during an audience with Latin American Catholics, the Argentine Pontiff said that there was a ´current of corruption´ in the Roman Curia - the central governing body of the Catholic Church. He also admitted the existence of a long-rumoured ´gay lobby´ in the Curia, and hinted that he might take action over the issue. (Snip) ´There is talk of a ´gay lobby´ and it´s true, it exists,´ he said, in a report on Chilean website Reflexion y

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete

Celebrity chef Paula Deen admitted in a recorded deposition to telling racist jokes, using the N-word, and planning a slavery-themed wedding, according to multiple reports. The May 17 deposition where she made the alleged admissions is part of a $1.2 million lawsuit brought by Lisa Jackson, the former manager of a Savannah, Georgia, restaurant run by Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers. Jackson alleges in the suit that Deen used the N-word at the restaurant and that Hiers sexually harassed her. According to the reports, in the deposition, Deen replied “Yes, of course,”

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
