There is some great acting in Downton Abbey. Yet, of course, it is tv fare. And I love it.

And yes, Henry IV Part 2 is better written.

Shakespeare is great when it works, but it is often a lot of work to understand what the old guy was trying to say. Yes, he is timeless, but we are a long way from that England. Not so much from Downton, which incorporates some actual history of that manor estate. I suppose part of Jeremy would scoff if I said I enjoyed his work with Bruce Willis in that die hard movie, but being an actor, he would love the fact that I noticed him and his performance.

I don´t watch Downton Abbey, but Jeremy Irons is a creep.

We just watched 2nd season last night.
We loved it.
It is basically a Victorian soap opera (I don´t usually like soaps) but the clothes are amazing and it is cool to see how many rooms are in these old castles and all the staff. Holy cow! I would have to have been an aristocrat because I would never have been able to be as subservient as the downstairs folks had to be.

Love Downton Abbey. Irons is really good at playing pompous villains, so these statements are perfect for him. I don´t think there´s a role for him on Downton. Maybe that´s what´s got his panties in a twist.

Jeremy sounds a bit grouchy. I enjoy DA.

My only complaint would be the relentless tendency to "fix" the social views of 1910 or 1920 to be those of 2012.

Every period series faces that problem. The writers and producers want the outcomes to be those that are politically correct today.

DT has resisted that pull rather well although there is a tendency for happy recoveries from the worst hardships and insurmountable difficulties.

I like Downton, but I LOVE Jeremy Irons, and I´m guessing he´s correct here. He is a fantastic actor.

No, he is not correct here. He is a snooty, elitist jerk who is probably upset that he wasn´t invited to join the cast of this great show. His little production should probably come with a snooze alert before each episode. I would watch Maggie Smith boil water before I would watch Jeremy Irons. She is one of the things that make DA watchable.

I believe Mr Irons has his codpiece in a bunch this morning - Downton Abbey is brain candy.

No opinion on "Abbey" since we don´t watch it. Like Irons and Shakespeare, but I read that the first episode features the play "Macbeth" but will include a dance version of the play. Huh?

#8, I have bad news - season 3 is even more atrocious in this regard. The views become very much modern PC garbage, rather than having any bearing on the Christian-based views of the time period.

Fellowes had help writing the first season and they took their time to get it just right. Unfortunately, he did the next two seasons on his own and in a rush to meet filming schedules, and there is a noticeable decline in quality. Still, better than most garbage on TV nowadays, and it´s nice to have a show where people care about style.
