| President Obama has agreed to a request from the D.C. Council to add the city´s "taxation without representation" slogan to the license plates on his limousine. "President Obama has lived in the District now for four years and has seen firsthand how patently unfair it is for working families in D.C. to work hard, raise children and pay taxes without having a vote in Congress," the White House said in a statement. "Attaching these plates to the presidential vehicles demonstrates the president´s commitment to the principle of full representation for the people of the District of Columbia

Would he be doing this if DC were predominantly conservative?
I´d submit that half the country is being taxed without representation since zippy only represents the 47% who don´t pay taxes. I´d like to know what percentage of DC residents don´t pay taxes. Bet it´s more than 47%.

Hell, I don´t have a vote in Congress, and I live 2,000 miles from D.C.! Horse-hockey redistricting took care of that!

Kind of like the poor schlubs who live in Washington and work Oregon. They are required to pay and file Oregon income taxes and forms and they get zero, nada, nothing for their money. It is a Democrats dream scenario.

With the B Ho it is all form over substance. Most of his supporters don´t pay federal taxes.

These JA´s don´t know or care why DC, and the U.S. Constitution was established. I frankly don´t think democrats give a whit about anything other than taking our money. If you a conservative, they would just as soon we all died.

For us it´s a poke in the eye...here in Northern California with Pelosi, Boxer, Feinstein and Thompson as our "representatives", we have NO representaion in congress..... at all. About anything...not just taxes.

That limo is FEDERAL property, and as such should not be used to advertise political views. What next? Nike swoosh on AF1?

The problem in the country today is that we have "Representation without Taxation", too many slugs not paying their share.

Yes, giving the District back to Maryland would give its residents "full representation."
Oh, full representation is not the issue?? What?! Two more liberal senators is the real issue? Oh.

As has been said, taxation with representation is no great bargain.
Further, what about the too, too common circumstance of representation without taxation? AKA rob Peter to pay Paul? Whatever happened to "everybody should have some skin in the game"?
But it does kind of suggest a bumper sticker for Limo One -- "Presidentation Without Qualification."

This will ensure that the schools will be better, the neighborhoods will be safer, and the jobs will be plentiful.
Evidently some people live for symbolism rather than substance.

If the limo is a US Government Vehicle, it should have US Government plates just like the rest of the vehicles in the carpool.

For our foreign visitors, let us explain that DC statehood essentially concerns whether to add two more senators, both of whom would be Democrats. Otherwise, DC could just rejoin Maryland, from which as you can see on a map, DC was carved out. Virginia was supposed to contribute the rest of the square I think (?) but the Civil War intervened somehow.

Piled high amid a trail of destruction, these tragic horses are among more than 100 thought to have been killed in the Oklahoma tornado. As well as human lives that were lost, farms around the suburb of Moore took a direct hit from the giant twister which swept up everything in its path with winds of more than 200mph and the power of up to 600 nuclear bombs. Witnesses who cowered in terror described seeing ´horses and stuff flying around everywhere´ and returning to find ´scorched earth´ and crumpled buildings. They came across distressing scenes of horses

A mother-of-two described tonight how she put her own life on the line by trying to persuade the soldier’s murderers to hand over their weapons. Cub scout leader Ingrid Loyau-Kennett selflessly engaged the terrorists in conversation and kept her nerve as one of them told her: “We want to start a war in London tonight.” Mrs Loyau-Kennett, 48, from Cornwall, was one of the first people on the scene after the two Islamic extremists butchered a soldier in Woolwich, south east London. She was photographed by onlookers confronting one of the attackers who was holding a bloodied knife.

In between all the political brush fires that have engulfed the White House in recent days, President Obama and wife Michelle Obama have still managed time for vacation planning. The nation’s first family is looking to cool their jets this summer at a house in Farm Neck on Martha’s Vineyard, according to the Boston Globe. Obama and his family are no stranger to Martha’s Vineyard, having made three previous summer visits to Blue Heron Farm in Chilmark. They skipped going there last summer, and their favorite Blue Heron Farm house might not be available anymore.

Heather French Henry, the former beauty queen and wife of former Lt. Gov. Steve Henry, is considering challenging U.S. Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2014. Henry told The Hill, a Washington, D.C., political newspaper that she is being urged by Democrats in Kentucky to take on the five-term senator. “I´m not saying no yet, but I´m not saying yes,” she told The Hill. Henry, who won the Miss America contest in 2000, has never run for office but has gained some notoriety because of her volunteer work with veterans.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Rep. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care? Why do you, Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, care
