FLINT - A federal judge has sentenced a Flint store owner to four years, three months in prison for participating in a $612,000 food stamp fraud scheme. (Snip) McQuade says Fofana, the owner of Mandingo African Market, redeemed more than $750,000 in food stamp benefits from February 2009 to July 2011, approximately $612,000 of which was obtained utilizing fraudulent “food stamps-for-cash” exchanges. State officials calculated that during that same time period, Mandingo’s average food stamp redemption amount was $26,798 per month — compared to an average of $5,479 monthly redemption for

Fofana from the Mandingo African Market?

Rather exotic sounding ... I can hear the drums in the background ...

It´s good that they caught this enabler, but it´s too bad they couldn´t catch all the parasites making the deals with him. The government should set up a few stings in Detroit but they won´t. They would catch too many democratic voters with Obama phones.

They know who are the food stamp recipients are from the card numbers that this guy fraudulently submitted to cash out. It´s been 50 cents on the dollar now for a very long time. It´s easy for them to figure out how much of their food stamp card allowance each one of those food stamp recipients sold. It´s too much hassle for them to prosecute 1,000 or so Obama phone holders, so they just prosecute the main perpetrators included in the conspiracy indictment. That keeps this charade going, and they are probably already working on the next case with new perpetrators, and a lot of the same old food stamp recipients making money off their food stamp cards knowing they will never be prosecuted.

If Bill Clinton’s political camp was known for believing the right wing was out to get him, then this undated memo from his administration codified his team’s suspicions. The memo was released today in the latest, thousands-of-pages-long batch of Clinton White House documents to be posted online by the William J. Clinton Presidential Library & Museum. The National Archives have been releasing tranches of Clinton documents, previously withheld under the Presidential Records Act, every two weeks this spring. Reportedly authored by Chris Lehane, then a young White House aide who would later serve as press secretary for

KUALA LUMPUR - About 100 Malaysian Muslim activists protested on Friday outside the US embassy against the coming visit by President Barack Obama, denouncing him as an enemy of Islam. The demonstration underscored the delicate nature of Obama´s trip to Muslim-majority Malaysia, which will make him the first siting US president to visit in nearly half a century, a period marked by mutual distrust. The protesters marched to the embassy in Kuala Lumpur from a nearby mosque after Friday afternoon prayers, shouting "God is great" and "Obama is the enemy of the Prophet Muhammad." They also bore placards and banners

The documents were previously withheld under the Presidential Records Act. The library posted the latest batch online today, linking to thousands of pages of official memos and communications between aides. This is not a joke, but it is funny. It´s also practical. Argentina´s National Institute for Agricultural Technology (INTA) has invented a way to convert cow flatulence into usable energy, and it involves putting a plastic backpack on a cow. In other words, cow fartpacks are here.(snip)Here´s how the fartpacks work: tubes run from the backpack into the cows´ rumen (or biggest digestive tract). They extract about 300 liters of methane a day, which is enough to run a car or a fridge for about 24 hours. Pablo Soranda, INTA press officer, told FastCo.Exist that the project is more about making a point than

Given their druthers, some Kansas high school students and their parents said they would rather keep their graduation day just a family affair instead of expanding the guest list to include first lady Michelle Obama. The criticism erupted after the Topeka, Kansas school district announced Thursday that the first lady would speak at a combined graduation ceremony for five area high schools on May 17 at an 8,000-seat arena. Parents attending a school board meeting urged it to reconsider the decision.(snip) "They´ve taken the glory and shine from the children and put on Mrs. Obama. She doesn´t know our kids." Gov. Terry McAuliffe plans to announce today that he will shrink the time violent felons must wait to seek reinstatement of their voting rights and will remove some offenses from that list. The policy slated to take effect April 21 comes on top of years of work to streamline the process, and aims to make the system easier to understand and to allow more felons to petition the state more quickly. In a series of changes to the state´s restoration of rights process, McAuliffe plans to collapse the application waiting period from five to three years for people convicted of violent felonies

The two bombers who killed and maimed innocent people at the Boston marathon a year ago had come as refugees to America, from conflicts that America and her people did nothing to cause. They had been granted the privileges of a law-abiding democracy, including education, health care and the precious freedoms for which Americans have fought in two world wars. Their situation was incomparably better than it would have been, had they stayed behind in Chechnya. Among the many privileges that they enjoyed religious freedom was by no means the least important. They were able to attend their local mosque, to take part in its services and

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the
