| The movie Zero Dark Thirty, about the hunt for Osama bin Laden, has renewed the discussion over enhanced interrogation techniques. Kathryn Bigelow, the director, and Mark Boal, the screenwriter, point out that "torture" by CIA officers was instrumental in getting the information needed to find bin Laden. American Thinker interviewed former high-ranking CIA officials who were at the Agency during those perilous times to get their opinions on the movie.

From what I understand Hollywood isn´t too enthusiastic with this picture because its not sufficiently anti-Bush/conservative/republican.

~~After seeing the movie, it becomes obvious that Americans might now understand what was needed to make sure the homeland remained safe. The crowds in the theatre are subdued during the movie and afterward. There is no hissing, no yelling, and no cheering. As the audience exits, there is an eerie quiet, maybe because the movie brought home the fact to Americans that these were very dangerous times.~~
How ´bout that? Ya think? It´s Bush´s fault.....

It appears the Republican Party establishment and some conservative commentators have come up with another mistaken tactic to woo the low information and undecided voters. With the avalanche of scandals swirling around the Obama administration and the Democratic Party, the political message promoted by these politicians and pundits is that these scandals are the outcome of a government that has grown too large to control and should therefore be dramatically cut back.

The current abusive conduct by the IRS is breathtaking in its audacity. When you look at last Friday´s testimony Acting Commisioner Steven Miller there is a clear disconnect -- the doesn´t think anyone did anything illegal, unconstitutional, or even wrong. Apart from a stark posture of arrogance and negative body language, he represents a very large group of people we need to worry about. This guy is beyond zealotry -- he has gone straight to certainty that he is right, his actions are justified and he can´t be touched. He´s like Obama´s buddy Bill Ayers

After running an errand at the Courthouse, I decided to pop into the Barrister Bar and Bistro for a quick bite. The place was packed and Charlie, the maitre d´, shrugged his shoulders apologetically. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

By all accounts, today´s college campuses grow more intolerant by the day. We move closer to the old Soviet Empire, where political dissidents risked the gulag for even joking about Marxism. In the U.S., however, the hate crimes concern anything that touches on race, ethnicity, gender differences, diversity, and sexuality (see here and here). Even an old-fashioned ethnic joke almost guarantees mandatory counseling. Skeptics need only look at the pervasiveness of campus speech codes, coerced sensitivity training, the mandatory injection of multicultural propaganda into courses, and other top-down censorship.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election.
