New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to proposed new gun laws in the state that would make it the strictest in the country in response to recent gun violence spreading across the nation. The proposal is set to be announced during Gov Cuomo´s State of the State speech on Wednesday whether a deal with state legislatures is met or not according to sources speaking to CBS New York. The new laws would enforce tighter restrictions on assault weapons, stiffer penalties on firearms used to commit a crime and stricter limits on magazine capacity.

Comments:
All the leftists needed was Sandy Hook to offer them an excuse for their outrageous behavior. It´s so distressing.

Guess he wants to compete with his Buddy, Rahm, for who´s city can have the most murders every weekend. Chicago IS a Gun Free City has been for years. It also has one of the highest murder rates in the country. There is a message there!

Cuomo is a liar. The Bushmaster was NOT used in the Sandy Shootings, it was left in the car. The murderer used a Glock and a Sig Sauer handgun, both of which are not assault weapons.

Yes, #1. Murder rates will go up. Does Cuomo realize that he would be signing a death warrant for many of his citizens?

After which crime will really skyrocket!!

Are you sure about that #2 (or anyone else)? I thought the same, but the media is mum and I can´t confirm it. That is important.

Some liberals are just not teachable. New York has a governor who apparently has not heard of Chicago´s gun laws, and thinks the second amendment does not apply within New York´s borders.

Yea, though I walk through the dark valley
In the shadow of Socialists
I fear no evil, for You are at my side
With your rod and your staff that give me courage

Still, a holster with a loaded Glock would be welcome accessory...

#2. True, the Glock and the SIG are not "assault weapons". Neither is the Bushmaster. Bushmaster does not manufacture "assault weapons".

Reply 10 - Posted by: coldborezero, 1/9/2013 1:11:25 PM     (No. 9107178)

However, Bushmaster does manufacture some excellent Home/Homeland Defense Rifles.

Ny State and NY City already have some of the most prohibative gun controls in the nation.

In NY City a permit is required to own almost every kind of gun and it is almost impossible to get a permit - especially for a pistol.

NY State is not much better. Although you can own most long guns without a permit you cannot own a pistol without a permit and the state does its best to limit them.

One of the ironies of the gun control situation in NY City is that the restrictive "Sullivan Act" was written by a crooked democrat politician, ´Big´ Tim Sullivan, to actually reduce the penalties for gang members using illegal weapons and to keep guns out of the hands of the general population.

He was quoted as saying: “I want to make it so the young thugs in my district will get three years for carrying dangerous weapons instead of getting a sentence in the electric chair a year from now.”

Reply 12 - Posted by: JustCause, 1/9/2013 1:17:43 PM     (No. 9107189)

First reports I heard was the Bushmaster was left in the car.

Rumor has it (and it´s only a ´rumor´ since I don´t remember the source) that the Newtown killings were accomplished with the Bushmaster and the suicide was done with the handgun. (he apparently carried two in his belt)

I wondered why there were no injuries, just killed, and that scenario would fit.

Another poster was correct in pointing out that NONE of the weapons were Assault Weapons.

You cannot argue or negotiate with people who are intellectually dishonest. Read John Lott´s - More Guns, Less Crime

Proposed deal would ban assault weapons, provide stiffer penalties on firearms used to commit a crime and offer stricter limits on magazine capacity

1) Unconstitutional. No one can legally describe an ´assault weapon´ without including every firearm made.
2) Okay, fine.
3) Same as Connecticut and it did them no good.

I like the idea of stiffer penalties on firearms that were used in the commission of a crime. But you can´t punish the gun owner, since the gun committed the crime!

U.S. military sources serving in North Africa are challenging the latest White House claim that the administration is applying "all the resources" at its disposal to bring the Benghazi attackers to justice, charging instead that the Obama administration knows who is responsible but is not acting. "They have let it slip by because of politics, and now we´ve taken all the correlation we had and dropped the ball because of risk (aversion) -- and now the security in Libya is more fragile than ever," one U.S. special operator told Fox News. Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has apologized for remarks Monday in which he linked Oklahoma "cyclones" to climate change while berating Republicans for their stance on the issue -- around the time a massive tornado killed dozens in that state. A Whitehouse spokesman said Tuesday the politically charged remarks were pre-written as part of the senator’s weekly Senate floor speech on climate change. “Tragically and unbeknownst to the senator at the time, a series of tornadoes were hitting Oklahoma at the same moment he gave his remarks,” the spokesman said.

The entire panel agreed the scandal was an outrage, with Kirsten Powers pointing out that there have been a number of high-profile leaks from the Obama administration, but the only ones they seem interested in going after are the ones that make them look bad. Charles Krauthammer found it amazing that the government would make such a “huge assault on the first amendment” in trying to

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.
