| Actress Eva Longoria, a prominent supporter and fundraiser for President Obama, will lead an Hispanic tribute to the president during the inauguration festivities. The event, which will also feature actors Melanie Griffith, George Lopez, Mario Lopez and others, will take place Jan. 20th at the Kennedy Center. Obama will take the formal oath of office that day at the White House (as required by the Constitution) and then will have a ceremonial swearing-in on Monday at the Capital, where he will give his inaugural address. Longoria is a co-chairwoman of the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Committee.

Years ago I read a puff piece on her, it was around the time she married the NBA player, that mentioned she didn´t learn Spanish until later in life and wasn´t comfortable doing interviews in Spanish. But now she´s the "go to" Latina for her idol Barry. Go figure.

#1 Melanie Griffith is married to Antonio Banderas, who is Spanish. I guess that makes her "Hispanic by association" or something like that. Why does anyone pay "tribute" to any American President? They are not kings, they are elected officials...

Poster 13. hispanics, I´m speaking of the most recent waves, are not Americans. They don´t assiimilate. Their loyalty lies with the old country. They send a minimum of $30 billion each year back to mexico. They travel to mexico on vacation---their pockets stuffed with gringo dollars. The latest imports operate somewhere between no loyalty to America and resentment of USA. On the other hand, blacks are not unpatriotic. They call themselves African Americans. Generally speaking with hispanics the American part is left out.

hispanics are a major and growing entitlement class. Gimme gimme gimme. Therefore, hispanics can be counted on as 75 to 80 percent democrat voting block and there is nothing the GOP can do about it no matter how much hispanic outreach is engaged in.

You all know that Longoria hosted the very expensive party that Michelle went to in Majorca on the pretext that she was comforting a friend after a death in the family. The press mention was very brief, then disappeared into the ether. Now imagine somebody like Nancy Reagan or Laura Bush getting away with that. After all, they practically crucified Nancy for the private fundraising for new WH china.

In a long-awaited speech at the National Defense University, Barack Obama claimed that the nature of international terror attacks threatening the United States has changed since Sept. 11, 2001, with ´no large-scale attacks´ on America occurring since then. But his definition of ´large-scale attacks,´ his speech made clear, doesn´t include the 2013 Boston Marathon attack that wounded hundreds, the 2012 Benghazi terror attack that injured dozens and killed four, and the 2009 attack at Fort Hood that killed 13 and injured 30. All those attacks had the potential to leave far more American bodies in their wake than they actually did.

Another major political speech, another Code Pink heckling. During President Obama‘s counterterrorism policy speech at National Defense University on Thursday afternoon, Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin interrupted when the topic turned to the closing of the military detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. “I’m about to address it, ma’am,” Obama said as Benjamin went off about the hunger strike currently taking hold amongst Gitmo detainees. “Why don’t you sit down? But you’ve got to let me speak.” “You are commander-in-chief! You can close Gitmo today!”

WASHINGTON — President Obama on Thursday announced new restraints on targeted killings and narrowed the scope of the long struggle with terrorists as part of a transition to a day he envisions when the nation will no longer be on the war footing it has been on since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. In a widely anticipated speech at the National Defense University, Mr. Obama offered his most expansive defense of the drone war he has waged since taking office, but he signaled that he planned to wind down the strikes, which have stirred controversy

All the plants will be chosen specifically to survive in the microclimate of the domes that has also been designed to be comfortable for Amazon employees to work in. Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus grew a bit testy during his Morning Joe appearance on Thursday as the other guests — John Heilemann in particular — challenged his assertions regarding the IRS scandal. Right from the start, Heilemann objected to Priebus inferring guilt from IRS official Lois Lerner‘s using her Fifth Amendment right. Lerner didn’t do herself any favors by choosing not to answer any questions at yesterday’s congressional hearing, Priebus argued — “which, whether you agree with it as a basis of law or not, implies there are some criminal aspects of this investigation.”

A new book out in Germany reveals how President Kennedy was a secret admirer of the Nazis. The news comes embarrassingly close to a visit being paid to Berlin next month by President Obama - one week before 50th anniversary commemorations of JFK´s memorable ´Ich bin ein Berliner´ speech pledging US solidarity with Europe during the Cold War. President Kennedy´s travelogues and letters chronicling his wanderings through Germany before WWII, when Adolf Hitler was in power, have been unearthed and show him generally in favour of the movement that was to plunge the world into the greatest war in history.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
