In New Jersey and Across
America, Chris Christie
Casts a Big Shadow

That seductive presidential siren is once again singing to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has launched his reelection campaign with a massive war chest and some of the fattest approval ratings of any politician—let alone Republican politician—in America. A recent national poll of registered voters gave him a 55 percent favorable rating, the highest of any of the potential 2016 Republican contenders; in New Jersey, his job approval soared to 72 percent, the most stratospheric score ever recorded by a Garden State governor. This, in a blue state where President Obama beat Mitt Romney by 17 points,

Comments:
Sorry, we don´t need another RINO for nomination as the next president.

Obama voters like Christie. This is news?

He´s off my list. Placing the interests of his NJ constituents above those of the nation as a whole may be a plus as governor, but disqualifies him as POTUS. Actions have consequences. Country first.

Writing articles about possible 2016 presidential candidates at this point is meaningless.

I have been a voting NJ resident for 36 years and will take Christie over any of his predecessors.
That said, I do agree it´s pointless to talk about a 2016 candidacy now.

Chrisite, Rubio, Cruz and Jindal are the only Republicans with a national stage who have a spark of life to them. Most of the rest make guys like John Boeher and Rick Santorum seem interesting.

The Republicans don´t suffer from extremism. They suffer from extreme dullness.

Christie would do well from learning about the fickle finger of the media from McCain. They will love you one moment as the GOP ´maverick´, bucking his party, then hate you the next as an angry old white guy for daring to oppose Barry.

I recall a lot of irrelevant, ad homenim attacks from the LSM levelled at Christie a while back. Now post-Sandy, Christie is a media darling, i.e this article.

Just criticize their messiah once more, and the media will again turn on Christie with the overweight, blowhard, etc, etc rhetoric in a heartbeat.

It´s the kind of thing the Republican Party is just stupid enough to do. He may be nominated, but he will never, ever, be elected.

It has been said that a corrupt citizenry will demand corrupt leaders. Christie gets 55% approval. I doubt most even know who he is. Hillary Clinton gets a 60% approval after:
*falsely charging the travel office staff of wrong doing that could have sent then to prison. Government had to end up reimbursing them for their legal fees once discovered that the Clinton´s were simply trying to get rid of them in order to give cronies their jobs.

*Hid her law firm records in the White House when they were required by investigators in the corrupt land deal the Clinton´s were involved in. They were found by a cleaning lady and turned over to authorities .

Many more scandals by the corrupt Clintons that brought the most corrupt administration in history to Washington. But the ignorant and gullible don´t know or care. We have the government we deserve.

Christie is a NJ bully and could have been an excellent character actor on the Sopranos. I´ve seen all I need to write him off any consideration for the national stage. I´m keeping my eye on Ted Cruz.

He has high approval numbers because he has been talked up by the press for jumping all over Romney and Boehner. He does not realize that he can just as easily be talked down.

Christie has done nothing but whine about needing taxpayer dollars, and Obama has done nothing but fly over and give Christie a hug. They have done nothing to earn their approval numbers, and Christie will not be as well-insulated as Obama from the restless natives on the east coast.

When Governor Christie put on the public display of sucking up to President Obama he
lost all my respect. He can run as a Democrat,
which is probably likely. I expect the polling will begin in a few minutes and last for the next 4 years.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Christie will be the GOP presidential candidate in 2016, and, just a guess, but I´d estimate that probably upwards of 95% of everyone here will vote for him, holding their nose, walking over broken glass, etc., but still towing the party line.

The definition of insanity.

Sorry, but no matter who runs on the Republican side, Hillary will be the opponent, and she will win. The Dems have it down pat - manipulate, lie, media on their side, dead people votes, etc. Sorry to be such a downer, but I can´t see Republicans winning anything ever again.

Reply 32 - Posted by: bighambone, 1/7/2013 11:00:38 PM     (No. 9104158)

Here obviously we have the liberal Democrats already trying to pick the next Republican Presidential candidate.

Unfortunately Christie looks like he is a big time candidate for the big one, and I am not talking about anything got to do with living in the White House.

In a new editorial, the folks at National Review came out strongly against the immigration plan being sponsored by the "Gang of Eight," a group of Senators that includes Marco Rubio (R-FL), calling the bill "Rubio´s Folly." National Review urges Senator Rubio to vote against the bill he has helped craft. It slams the proposed legislation as, "an amnesty-first, enforcement-maybe program drawn up mainly to reflect the priorities of 11 million citizens of other countries rather than the concerns of more than 300 million citizens of the United States." The editors point out that many of the

A pair of centrist senators introduced a bill Wednesday to soften the employer mandate in President Obama´s healthcare law. The healthcare law requires employers to offer coverage to employees who work more than 30 hours per week. Some employers have said they will reduce workers´ hours to avoid the mandate. Sens. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) proposed a bill to move the threshold to 40 hours per week, saying the employer mandate should match the traditional definition of a full-time worker. "What we´ve tried to do is be reflective of the businesses we work with,"

Marco Rubio made another one of his seemingly endless appearances on Sean Hannity’s program to advocate amnesty legislation. Rubio told Hannity that he has opposed amendments by Republican Senators to improve the legislation’s enforcement provisions because a new enforcement provision will be proposed tomorrow that is tougher and more effective than what has been proposed so far. Rand Paul’s amendment, which Rubio voted against, would have given Congress, not the Department of Homeland Security, the ultimate authority to determine if the border is effectively secure. It would also have included enhanced security measures, such as requiring a

To a remarkable degree, liberalism has been institutionalized as an official ideology, funded by your tax dollars. This editorial in Investors Business Daily explains, in shocking detail, how Obamacare is being used to fund Democratic Party operatives and drive Democratic Party enrollment: The Obama administration granted a whopping $910 million to California to set up its insurance exchange. That money is not for bandages, surgery, nurses and doctors to care for the sick. …Shockingly, the $910 million is slated for bureaucracy, including rich compensation packages for exchange employees ($360,000 a year for the executive director) and contracts for

The popularity of Obamacare has crashed to its lowest level in nearly two years, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll. Kaiser´s monthly tracking poll found that just 35 percent have a favorable view of the health reform being put into place Jan. 1 while 43 percent view it unfavorably. The favorability rating of Obamacare has been worse only once, in October 2011, when it fell to 34 percent. Not only is the June poll bad news for the president as his administration struggles to have the health reform program ready for people to begin signing up

Americans are already wary of the federal government having collected their phone records, but now we have Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., setting up a slippery slope of more and more data collection. Earlier today, a Washington Examiner editorial warned that "if phone records are useful now in stopping terrorist attacks, how long before politicians and bureaucrats decide archiving the entire phone call would be even more useful? How long before the limitations and safeguards now in place are set aside?" Within a few hours, King provided an illustration of precisely what the Examiner editors fear. Responding to a

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is feeling the heat as potential GOP allies are now turning against his immigration reform bill. Republican colleagues who were previously viewed as possible “yes” votes are keeping their distance from the 1,075-page measure. On Wednesday, conservative activists ripped Rubio and Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) — both sponsors of the bipartisan immigration measure — at a Capitol Hill rally. The crowd, which was protesting the bill’s effort to put millions of illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship, booed at the mention of Rubio’s name during the six-hour event.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete
