| What´s $1,635 per year more in taxes for tens of millions of households? That´s just $136.25 taken from a family budget per month. Like prudent mobsters, President Obama and Speaker Boehner are just skimming a little from your earnings to keep the nation from falling off that awful fiscal cliff. As patriots, on the order of 1984, we should all rejoice that Big Brother knows best. Let´s see what a paltry $1,635 buys annually, shall we? And, dear reader, feel free to add to the list. How about a... 1. Whirlpool 26.4 cu. ft.

$136.25 is cat food, dog food and cat litter for the month for my 3 cats and my dog. Or it is my heating bill in January here in Nebraska. It is cable/phone/internet. It is a big shop at the grocery store, and I don´t buy steak and lobster -- just bread, milk, potatoes, apples, lettuce, margarine, peant butter, etc. But it´s MY $136.25, even if that amount merely represents a month´s worth of Starbucks latte´s for the ones in Congress who just sold me out.

You might not like it - but this just means that people are paying for Social Security again. And, If you are not paying for it - they can take it away. If you are paying for it - you can demand to get back what you put in.

With the increase in food costs, it means that it will be harder to feed yourself and your family. But, hey, the rich got what they deserved--make that "the productive sector".

Social Security is broke. Bankruptcy was inevitable as soon as congress decided to use SS funds on other programs.
I paid into the plan for 50 years and certainly expect a check every month. The problem is that SS is underfunded and will have to be fixed. Raise the retirement age to 67-68 and remove the earnings cap and you put the program back in the black. And yes, I know, that is a massive tax increase on ´the wealthy´ but it´s the only logical thing to do.
SS has to be fixed. Too many people now depend on it. They should have been looking after their own retirement but they didn´t, did they? So now we are stuck and we can either cut benefits (never, never happen) or raise the rate from 6.2 percent to 8, 9 or more which would absolutely kill off what´s left of the middle class. Or we can raise the retirement age and remove the earnings cap.
There really is no such thing as a free lunch in spite of what our politicians tell us.

Yeah, well, that $136-a-month has already been spent. On higher gas prices. Higher food prices. Stuff like that.

Agree, #5. When Obama declared that "tax holiday" a while back, I knew it was bad for the Social Security fund.
However, the extra money resulting was what was keeping our household able to cover the increased costs of the Obama economy. Now, more things will have to go from our budget.

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed).
