Time Warner Cable Says It Will Keep
‘Open Mind’ on Reinstating Al Jazeera

New York Times, by Brian Stelter

Original Article

Time Warner Cable minced no words when it announced on Wednesday night that it was dropping Current TV, just hours after Al Jazeera acquired the channel. “Our agreement with Current has been terminated and we will no longer be carrying the service,” the distributor said. “We are removing the service as quickly as possible.” Critics of the distributor’s decision didn’t hold back, either, calling it cowardly, shameful and just plain dumb. On Twitter and Facebook, many people assumed that Time Warner Cable was expressing corporate opposition to Al Jazeera, the pan-Arab news giant,

We have TWC. Due to the ever rising costs, we have been checking out alternatives. But, after this morning, I had decided to just keep them to show support for dumping the Islamoterrorist News Network (or whatever they plan to call themselves).

Now we are actively shopping again.

TWC is acting more French than the Republican Party these days. You know, talk big for a few minutes and then surrender to evil!!!

Much of the world blocks Voice of America.

Here, we put subversive enemy networks on our cable systems. Oh, and Al Jazeera, too, along with ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, all of which I mentioned implicitly.

Al Jazeera is in the same category as CNN or MSNBC. TWC should consider dropping them.

Well, that didn´t take long.

I read an article here earlier about Time Warner dropping Current TV, and posted a simple response - "Thank you, Time Warner".

I´m away from the computer a while, and the first thing I see when I come back is that Time Warner is keeping ´open mind´ under pressure to reverse its decision.

My thank you lasts only as long as their decision to drop Current TV.

America never would have been founded as a Republic with today´s crop of weaklings.

What´s the beef? Al Jazeera is much more honest than Current TV and any of the ABCNBCCNNCBS types which lie about everything.

I personally do not care what TWC offers; it what they do NOT offer that bothers me, like Animal Planet that we enjoyed until it was
moved to HD status. If people wish to pay for
50 channels of reality shows that is their choice.

Hold on there, cowboy!Texas Monthly magazine sued the New York Times on Friday for poaching its editor. Jake Silverstein, who was hired away from the Emmis Communications title last month to become the new editor of the New York Times Magazine, was under contract at the regional monthly until the Times, “without legal justification or excuse,” caused him to breach that deal, the lawsuit claims. The six-page Texas state court action alleges that Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson started recruiting Silverstein in December 2012 — a full year before then-magazine editor Hugo Lindgren was ousted. New York - President Barack Obama is coming to New York City Friday to address the Rev. The topic also came up in a 2011 ’60 Minutes’ interview with Lesley Stahl weeks before the debut of “Politics Nation.”In outtakes posted from that interview, Stahl asked Sharpton if he was an FBI informant. The exchange got testy at times when Stahl continued to question Rev. First came the “polar vortex” — now it’s the “pollen vortex.”Forced to lie dormant by the long, brutal winter, trees are now set to start reproducing like crazy — and create a massive amount of pollen that could wallop your sinuses this weekend. Pollen count in the Northeast will soar to “high levels” Saturday and Sunday, when warm temperatures will prompt plants to create the sniffle-inducing substance, reports Pollen.com, which offers allergy “forecasts.” In New York City, where the temps could hit 70 degrees Saturday, allergy symptoms will “become more severe,” the site says. April is generally the worst month of allergy season,

President Obama stood Friday with the Rev. Al Sharpton and accused Republicans of trying to keep millions of Americans from voting, in a fiery speech days after new revelations about Sharpton’s past as an FBI informant. “The right to vote is threatened today in a way that it has not been since the Voting Rights Act became law nearly five decades ago,” Obama told the annual convention of Sharpton’s National Action Network in Manhattan. Obama’s appearance represented a presidential seal of approval of Sharpton’s role as a civil rights activist, amid the new revelations about how Sharpton used a wire to record

Two years before the Boston Marathon bombing, the Russian government concealed key information on one of the killers that might have thwarted the attack, a new report charges.Kremlin officials intercepted a phone conversation in which Tamerlan Tsarnaev discussed Islamic jihad with his mother, but they withheld the information from the FBI, according to the U.S. inspector general report that comes as the one-year anniversary of the bombing approaches. Had the FBI been privy to the red-flag phone call, it would have prompted the bureau to take an extensive look at Tsarnaev, according to The New York Times. “Had they known what the

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.
