Secretary Clinton in hospital with
blood clot stemming from concussion

Fox News & Associated Press, by Pat Summers

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been admitted to a hospital in New York with blood clot stemming from a concussion she sustained several weeks ago. Assistant Deputy Secretary of State Philippe Reines said in a statement that during a follow-up exam, Clinton´s doctors discovered a blood clot had formed. She is being treated with anti-coagulants and is at New York-Presbyterian Hospital so that they can monitor the medication over the next 48 hours. Doctors will continue to monitor Clinton´s condition to determine if further action is necessary.

Comments:
This IS a game changer. But, what of Benghazi and "fiscal cliff," now? Interesting to see how soon till 0bama makes this about himself.

The woman is so powerful she can be in Punta Cana and NYC at the same time.

This is just so much nonsense. IMHO.

Her blood clot is caused by fifty-something years of lying!

I don´t believe she went to a hospital or a doctor when she hit her head.
So HOW does a doctor "discover" a blood clot? She must have had presented with symptoms.

Medically confusing story:

"Blood clot" from concussions usually refers to head trauma and bleeding in the brain that is NOT treated with anticoagulants.

Blood clots from immobility relate to clots inside veins, often in the legs. These are treated with anticoagulants, but are, by themselves, not too serious - unless they float from the vein into the lungs as a pulmonary embolism.

Hum?? Right out of the old Clinton play book. Republicans on the committee will be afraid to ask anymore than "Secretary Clinton I sure hope your feeling better, hope you get well soon. One more scandal put to bed. Maybe she is really sick, if so, I wish her well in retirement.

MRI video or it didn´t happen.

What with her lying under oath for Whitewater and so on, there´s no reason to give Hellbeast the benefit of the doubt. She´ll do anything necessary to avoid testifying on Benghazi. First she went antipodal, then she needed a nap, then the cold or flu, then dehydration, then concussion.

If her maladies prove genuine and she dies, I´ll be momentarily remorseful for ever doubting her about this one very narrow and most recent set of circumstances.

The advertising in the left sidebar is appropo. I would say to all the doubters here, remember Liam Neeson´s late wife? She smacked her head in a skiing incident, felt fine and shrugged it off. Several hours later she is in a coma, then dead. I have to believe that she is honestly sick right now. It may not be convenient, but sometimes that is the way life goes.

I agree with #8, this is in my field of work.

A brain concussion by its very definition is a bleed, albeit they can be pinpoint to huge.

Blood in the brain is an irritant, it causes necrosis if brain matter, causing it to die. Blood is usually removed before it causes brain tissue death depending on size and location. You can have epidural bleeds, as well.

Substantial clots are evacuated via brain surgery. Smaller ones are left alone.

They do treat people with extremity clots with anti coags, but they infer this is in her brain.

By this very fact, anticoags to treat a brain clot are horribly dangerous, as it places the patient that already had a bleed at extreme risk to re-bleed. This just isn´t done. In fact, if the patients´ clotting factor is too low, as it would be from anti coags, they reverse them emergently with transfusions. This happens with patients often, taking coumadin that bump their heads.

Even if her clot is in an extremity, it is high risk as she has has an alleged recent brain bleed, no matter how small.

This is when risk vs benefits must be weighed. If true, her concussion, therefore, can be perceived to have been pinpoint, her risk factor being ver, very low.

This is of course, just my opinion.

Reply 28 - Posted by: lakerman1, 12/30/2012 9:16:07 PM     (No. 9090642)

#20, isn´t a concussion essentially a blod clot around the brain? How could that migrate to a leg?
Is it possible that the concussion story was that, a story? And she actually developed DVT? (Richard Nixon, in 1974, was flying around the world, developed that, from sitting, and they put in some sort of shunt in his groin. And one of the TV reporters, whose name escapes me, died in 2003 in Iraq, same deal, and it was attributed to his flying time?)

Hillary, eluding the congressional investigators, flew to Peru for a women´s conference, then back to d.c. to then fly to australia for wine tasting. That´s a whole lot of sitting. (I advised my daughter, a ballerina, to walk around on her flight to Australia from LA, for the blood clot prevention. And she was a mere 18 years old at the time, and in the physical condition you would expect a ballerina to be in. Hillary is elderly.)

Thanks for the outline #28.

One presumes the "clot" refers to stroke symptoms, and diagnosis two weeks after the event doesn´t sound like first-class care at all, or even second-class. I might speculate she simply refused all treatment at the time in spite of symptoms either at the event or in the days that followed.

Perhaps we´ll someday get some facts. Then again, this being the Clintons, perhaps never.

Reply 36 - Posted by: Libertygal, 12/30/2012 9:31:28 PM     (No. 9090662)

Correct, a clot in the brain cannot migrate. If it was in an artery, then it would be what most people know as a stroke. Usually, these are so small by the time they cause a stroke, breaking and migrating can cause further strokes in smaller vessels, but these are headed off with anti coags immediately, not later. There is no confusing a clot with an ischemic stroke, though some ischemic strokes can progress to bleeds. Again, brain surgery with evacuation of hematoma, and stopping the bleed is an emergency. Not a sit at home a week or two and see what happens.

Something isn´t right about the story, but I suspect poor reporting by clueless media. I would be more willing to believe a DVT, as you stated, as opposed to a brain clot, which is a hematoma or a stroke. You just don´t treat a hematoma this way.

The report on FoxNews said doctors at New York-Presbyterian discovered the blood clot at a "follow-up visit" today, so apparently she had been treated there previously or by their doctors after her concussion. There goes the conspiracy theory that she had never seen a doctor about the fall and concussion. People do faint and fall when they become severely dehydrated (like from a stomach ailment) and do not get IV fluids. Call me crazy, but I will trust that the docs at NY-Presby know what they are doing and how to treat a blood clot, in the brain or wherever it is located, better than posters who know zero about her medical history and present condition.

Reply 40 - Posted by: GreatPlains, 12/30/2012 9:39:20 PM     (No. 9090675)

In 2005 Hillary fainted while giving a speech in Buffalo.
A stomach virus was blamed for that incident, also.

Reply 41 - Posted by: Teleologicus, 12/30/2012 9:45:18 PM     (No. 9090685)

As other posters have noted, the story we are being given makes no sense whatever. Where is the offending thrombus? If it is close to the brain as the implication that it is connected to an (alleged)concussion suggests, anticoagulant therapy can only be a fiendish Republican plot to eliminate that most annoying and persistent of political pests, Hillary Rodham Clinton. It is more likely, of course, that she is being treated for a deep vein thrombosis in the calf. But how is this supposed to be connected to the (alleged) concussion? Knocks on the head do not usually result in blood clots in the leg. With the Clintons, of course, anything and everything is possible. About the only thing one can be sure of is that whatever story they are peddling, it is unlikely to be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. This couple has taken mendacity to previously undreamt of heights - and their fans, followers and groupies just love them all the more for their chutzpah and ability to keep a straight face while they serve up their latest and greatest whoppers.

Democrats as a group seem to be increasingly truth-challenged in their public statements. Much of the credit for this belongs to Bill and Hillary, two of the boldest and shameless bald faced liars in the history of American politics. They have shown the way, and indicated to others what is possible, i.e. what many Americans are prepared to believe.

Who knows what the story is now? How wearisome it is, how productive of headaches it becomes, to have to try to separate fact from fiction in the doings and (mis)deeds of the Mr. and Mrs. of the fibbers and scoundrels.

Reply 43 - Posted by: Illinois Mom, 12/30/2012 9:55:48 PM     (No. 9090689)

Is the clot the result of her concussion? (Petty long fact the fact to be looking for it now) OR....was the fall the result of brain bleed? Possibly she had another fall that resulted in this trip to the hospital?

Unfortunatley we´ve had experience with the mistaken notion that a twisted ankle caused a fall only to discover the stroke came first. The first things they did was stop the coumadin and administer vitamin K...so the anti-coagulant part of the story makes no sense.

Betcha it will cause her memory to fail..just like when she had to testify about Whitewater: ´I don´t remember´ ´I don´t recall´. Rush had the Paul Shanklin song about her brain being like jello.

I agree with others here the story doesn´t fully make sense. Unless her handlers in the mainstream media are still trying to continue the phony concussion story. A concussion to the head has nothing to do with a blood clot in the calf or leg. Whatever the story is Hillary gets to sit in a warm, comfy hospital while ambassador Stevens was tortured and dragged to his death in Benghazi while no one in Hillary´s State Dept. including Hillary lifted a finger to help.

My thoughts exactly, #8. It sounds like she may have a blood clot in her leg, totally different illness from the so called concussion. Her staff is now trying to tie it to the pretend concussion and will use it to further prevent her from testifying. Fortunately, there are enough people out there that know this is full of holes and there will be *revisions* to this story shortly, and more revisions...

Reply 50 - Posted by: noddy, 12/30/2012 10:17:53 PM     (No. 9090717)

First, a concussion and coma happening to the Secretary of State / Senator / former First Lady / in the running for Democratic Candidate to be President of the United States - announcement postponed for two weeks, family not with her. Total lies and fabrication.

Second, the blood clot. How was I so stupid not to consider this circumstance. It´s a good one, and they have had plenty of time to confer and conspire so that Hillary does not testify on Benghazi. No apologies in advance here. If the blood clot bursts and she dies of a stroke, then it´s buh bye Hillary. You or I most likely could not arrange this, but don´t forget the FBI files. This evil woman has ´´access´´ to enough people to get this result from a NY physician. So once again, total lies and fabrication.

Reply 51 - Posted by: horacer, 12/30/2012 10:21:30 PM     (No. 9090722)

Whatever did or didn´t happen doesn´t matter. Hillary won´t testify. CNN had the explanation a while ago. Prepping for testimony is very taxing. All the reading is bad enough, but then there are the ´monster boards´ which simulate the questions from the screaming opposition. This would be too much for Hillary in her distressed condition. On top of that all the travel she´s done in service to her country has left her weakened.

Any testimony from Hillary will be written.

Hill could have easily caught a bad flu bug and been so sick she stood up too quick, fainted and hit her head. And from the excessive amount of time she´s spent flying the past 4 years, a blood clot is probably overdue. But if Hill isn´t real careful, she might get something that permanently prevents her testifying about Benghazi because the people she´s in cahoots with play for keeps - just ask Vince Foster.

I didn´t believe it either, but assuming it´s real for a second, it is possible that her "fall" and subsequent concussion was caused by a TIA and blood clot or blockage of some kind - not the other way around.

That´s quite common as people get older - though she´s a little young for it in those terms.

Reply 69 - Posted by: 4Justice, 12/31/2012 1:56:54 AM     (No. 9090844)

If she has a clot, I don´t think it has anything to do with her concussion. The reporter said it did, but how much is just their speculation?? She may very well have a DVT. I had one and they kept me on warfarin for 6 months. It may be just a coincidence they found this on the follow up for the concussion. Anyway, it may be a ruse, but I´ll give her the benefit of the doubt for now. Nixon had pblebitus (sp?) ...I remember that. A lot of flying and being sedentary can cause clots. Women and smokers are also more prone to them. Anyway, we will find out the truth about Benghazi eventually. I think we already know enough to impeach the President, but more will be revealed.

A pulmonary embolus can present with light-headedness. If she´s on heparin or another anti-coagulant, she probably had a DVT from all that jetting around, and it went to her lungs. But then just going home for a week? No. This doesn´t wash.

How very sad it is that a former First Lady, and current Secretary of State, has been untruthful about so many things that she cannot now be trusted to be truthful about anything - anything at all. Does it really matter if she testifies? Lying under oath has never been unacceptable to her.

In 1953, the celebrated chemist Linus Pauling, already on track for a Nobel Prize for his work on chemical bonds, solved a major biochemical mystery by figuring out the structure of DNA—but his solution was utterly wrong. Later that decade, the brilliant astrophysicist Fred Hoyle, who had played a major role in discovering how new elements are forged in the core of the Sun, came up with an explanation for the expanding universe. It was known as the “steady-state” theory, and while it was ingenious, it was wrong too. In the early 1900’s Lord Kelvin, one of the founders of thermodynamics,

Seoul - North Korea fired three short-range missiles from its east coast on Saturday, South Korea´s Defence Ministry said, prompting Western powers to urge Pyongyang to exercise restraint. Launches by the North of short-range missiles are not uncommon but, after recent warnings from the communist state of impending nuclear war, such actions raise concerns about the region´s security. "North Korea fired short-range guided missiles twice in the morning and once in the afternoon off its east coast," an official at the South Korean Defence Ministry spokesman's office said by telephone.

An investigation of the Justice Department’s witness protection program uncovered glaring security problems that allowed terrorists who had been given new identities after cooperating with U.S. prosecutors to board commercial flights in the United States. In some cases, suspects whose names were on federal watchlists meant to keep them off commercial aircraft were nevertheless able to board flights because the Justice Department had failed to add their new, government-issued identities to counterterrorism databases. Overall, the Department of Justice Inspector General concluded that there

A senior Israeli official signaled on Wednesday that Israel was considering further military strikes on Syria to stop the transfer of advanced weapons to Islamist Hizbullah – and warned President Bashar Assad against any kind of retaliation against the Jewish state. The New York Times quoted the Israeli official who said, “Israel is determined to continue to prevent the transfer of advanced weapons to Hizbullah. The transfer of such weapons to Hizbullah will destabilize and endanger the entire region.” “If Syrian President Assad reacts by attacking Israel, or tries to strike Israel through his terrorist

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

Watching President Obama trying to dodge raindrops and responsibility yesterday reminded me of the moment when Dorothy pulls back the curtain and discovers that the Wizard of Oz is “just a man.” Stripped of his spell of mystery and power, the wizard is worse than mortal. He’s a fake. So it was with Obama in the Rose Garden. His performance was tired and trite, ordinary to the point of dull. His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

The State Department, under Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, created an arrangement for her longtime aide and confidante Huma Abedin to work for private clients as a consultant while serving as a top adviser in the department. Ms. Abedin did not disclose the arrangement — or how much income she earned — on her financial report. It requires officials to make public any significant sources of income. An adviser to Mrs. Clinton, Philippe Reines, said that Ms. Abedin was not obligated to do so. The disclosure of the agreement that Ms. Abedin made with the State Department comes as her husband,

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

President Obama’s press conference in the rain was not a success, if by success, his supporters would mean an event which convinces anyone who doesn’t work for him that he’s getting ahead of the scandal deluge. The sight of a Marine holding an umbrella over his head only added to the weirdness of the event. So what did we learn? 1. He has full confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder, the man who purportedly recused himself (whenever) without putting it in writing (whatever). The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
