| Rep. Tim Scott (R.), whom South Carolina Gov. Nikke Haley has said she will appoint to replace retiring Sen. Jim DeMint in the U.S. Senate, has been an opponent of Obamacare´s sterilization-contraception-abortifacient mandate, and a defender of traditional marriage, the right to life, and the Second Amendment. “The Constitution grants all law-abiding Americans the right to bear arms, regardless of what some would lead you to believe,”

Does he promote guns for 2 year olds? If not, then he should be okay with restrictions on those people who have no business handling guns - including those with serious mental illness with bouts of psychosis.

You go, Tim! We need you!
We heard two men on the elevator today chortling over the fact that the NRA took down its Facebook website. It is as if the NRA killed those little kids in the ´minds´ of liberals but the murder of thousands of babies every year by the scalpel means nothing to them. This is what we are dealing with.

Rep. Scott needs to get this right if he´s going to be among those idiots in the Senate. The Constitution does not "grant" the right to bear arms. That right existed long before the Constitution. The Bill of Rights affirms and enshrines pre-existing rights, among which is the right of free men to bear arms. I´m tired of everyone getting this wrong, including people who take an oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

The Constitution doesn´t even say that a person has to be law-abiding to own a weapon. The courts have been known to deny firearms rights for very minor infractions, or no infraction at all. For the liberal crowd, any excuse will do. Firearms should only be denied if a crime is committed using a firearm. Yeah, I know that´s after the barn door is open but the alternative is much worse. Self-protection is a God-given right. Any man who voluntarily gives up his weapon deserves what comes next.

You beat me to it #4 as I was recovering my password. (I do not think I have posted since the 2004 elections).
I never miss a chance to correct anyone who is under the delusion that the Constitution grants anything. I never had to write a Senator before on the matter....
Another one that really bugs me is when someone thinks the government has rights. The government has powers, not rights. It is the right to bear arms. Not the power to bear arms. It is *our* right.

#2, so you agree that the real root of the problem is the ACLU? After all they forced society to unleash these sick people. It was the barriers they set up that delayed committing the maniac who was burning himself. The mother was in over her head fighting the system, but she paid for her mistakes AND the system with her life.
Most of the people commenting about new gun laws have NO idea what is required to follow the many thousands of laws already out there. This monster violated many, many laws after he murdered his mother. Make new restrictions that criminals and maniacs will ignore, if it makes you feel better about making it harder for people in dangerous situations to get a gun for self defense. It sure would be nice if someone stepped up and pointed out that if you tell someone you have a gun free zone, you also have the means to enforce that with more than a sign or a lock.

Tim Scott hit the ground running this week--an e-mail from his office yesterday requests $10 (or more) donations to feed the momentum.
See Scott´s Issues page and click on his full statement re the 2nd Amendment.

Notice that right under 2nd Amendment is "American Values." Ten bucks to Tim would be a nice little Christmas gift to yourself. (Fifty gets you a signed, special edition bumper sticker!)

Men who are physically strong are more likely to take a right wing political stance, while weaker men are inclined to support the welfare state, according to a new study. Researchers discovered political motivations may have evolutionary links to physical strength. Men´s upper-body strength predicts their political opinions on economic redistribution, according to the research. The principal investigators - psychological scientists Michael Bang Petersen, of Aarhus University in Denmark, and Daniel Sznycer, of the University of California in the U.S., believe that the link may reflect psychological traits that evolved in response to our early ancestral environments

"My question isn´t about who´s going to resign," House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) told the press on Wednesday, "My question is, who´s going to jail over this scandal?" Boehner was joined at the Capitol by other GOP House leaders in discussing the admitted IRS targeting of conservative groups applying for tax exempt status. "The IRS has admitted to targeting conservatives, even if the White House continues to be stuck on the word ´if´, " Boehner said. "Now my question isn´t about who´s going to resign. My question is, who´s going to jail over this scandal?"

While the White House claims its stimulus package “supported as many as 3.5 million jobs,” none were yielded from a $152,000 project to ready lesbians for “adoptive parenthood.” The $833 billion American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), commonly known as the stimulus, awarded the tustees of Clark University, in Worcester, Mass., $152,000 to interview roughly 50 lesbian couples about their adoption experiences. “The goal of this project is to investigate the unique strengths and potential challenges of lesbian couples across the transition to adoptive parenthood,” the grant states. “Given that parental mental health has implications for child development,

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.) told Attorney General Eric Holder Wednesday to visit the Truman Library, “because we don’t know where the buck stops,” referring to scandals at the Justice Department. “Mr. Attorney General, I think that this committee has been frustrated for at least the last two and a half years—if not the last four and a half years—that there doesn’t seem to be any acceptance of responsibility in the Justice Department for things that have gone wrong,” Sensenbrenner said, during an oversight hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.

Over 86 years, the Ku Klux Klan lynched 3,446 blacks – a figure matched in less than four days if tallying the number of black babies who are aborted. Walter Hoye, founder and president of the Issues4Life Foundation, shared those statistics at a press conference on Tuesday where black clergy and other leaders gathered in response to the guilty verdict in the trial of abortionist Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted of murdering three newborn babies. “Right now to give some of us just a perspective of the impact of abortion on demand in the black community,

Oakland – Judgement day may finally be at hand for a California evangelical radio network used by a preacher to predict—incorrectly—the apocalypse. Oakland-based Family Radio has sold its three largest radio stations, and tax records show the nonprofit network saw its net assets drop to $29.2 million by the end of 2011, from a net worth of $135 million four years earlier. The radio network is run by Harold Camping, who predicted the world would end on May 21, 2011, only to later concede he had no evidence of an impending apocalypse.

Barack Obama can relax and get to work on his hook shot and his putting. The presidential legacy he has fretted over is now clear, well established, safe and secure. The presidential historians can fire up their laptops and let the processing of words begin. It’s too early to conclude, as some Republicans have, that the dam has broken, that the sleeping mainstream media has begun to come out of its sleeping-sickness stupor, and that even Democrats are about to leap out of the way. Not yet. But the dam has clearly sprung a leak.

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. (Snip) “There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold in America. That is because in America, we don’t apply the law based on who you are, who you know, or what you believe. We apply the law equally.” “We should not only fire the head of the IRS, which has occurred, but we’ve got to go down the line and find every single person who had anything to do with this and make sure

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.

A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
