As I do every Friday, I sort through my week´s clipping files in preparation for this column. I was going to write about energy. The optimistic assessments of natural resources and the fracking technique to extract them has every potential of changing our economic future for the better and the repressive regimes of the Middle East for the worse. This despite the uninformed blather about its dangers and constraints to its use, and the ridiculous wasted billions on government subsidies and grants funneled into a make-believe solar energy future.

I was talking to a friend last night about this tragedy. I mentioned the Tshirt that asks God why he let this happen in this school and the attending comment from God that He is not allowed in school. I then wondered if the school, the public even the parents would allow the surviving children the comfort of knowing that these children are now safe with and loved by, God? Will our society at least allow the kindness of knowing they are with God?

FTA: Can the gun talk; hold up on the sociological musings; button your lips on all the usual chatter when horrors occur. Maybe people spend too much time on TV programs where there´s a wrapup after half an hour and expect real life to follow that schedule.
Well done, Clarice. Some of the chatter has been grotesque. She also states that there are times when there is no easy explanation or solution. This is apparently not one of those times. LEO´s have quickly determined a clear motive. I´m hoping that their evidence doesn´t involve the extreme dislike of the public school systems (that is on this site nearly every day) or a stack of Limbaugh Letters in the corner. What do they have that they´re not telling us and why aren´t they releasing it to the media? Is the evidence so inflammatory toward/against one group that LEO´s fear revenge against like-minded individuals? One of the things that forced me to tune out for the past 36 hours was when I heard someone on TV mention that Lanza was homeschooled. As I woke this morning, made some coffee and began reading from Lucianne, this article was a good way to start the day. This is a perfect example of why this is the best site on the net. Thanks again, Clarice (and OP).

Soledad O´Brien was beyond disgusting yesterday. She pretends to care about the kids, but her opportunistic liberalism shone brightly through.

If you go to David Freddoso´s twitter feed, he has a disgusting picture of the media hounding the victim´s families. Jackals.

CNN was stomach turning. Their crass exploitation of the murdered children made MSNBC seem nearly honest.

Missing from Clarice´s list of what not to do is the pResident showing up to hog the spotlight and milk the tragedy for his own gain.

Forgot to add - if LEO´s are withholding info on the killer´s motive, it must be bad news for the left. If he was a right winger it would already be the only thing the media was talking about.

Regarding the desire for a hiatus in discussing the political ramifications of this event, to conservatives, this makes sense. Most conservatives believe this is a time to reflect on God, the sacrifices of Christ, family, friends, Heaven, Hell, and the nature of good and evil. This is a time that we use the occasion to tell our children and family that we love them. We do this, because when immense tragedy strikes, we go back to our first principles. This is natural.

To the hardened Left, they naturally go back to first principles as well. However, their first principles aren´t founded in God; they´re rooted in state-serving politics. "Never let a crisis go to waste" is one of the Ten Commandments of the Left. Thus, they can´t help themselves in politicizing this event. E.g., Bloomberg´s first public statement after this event was "Ban all guns." Democrats are now scheming to use this to their political advantage. This is one of our (the Right´s) political weaknesses. While we´ve called a truce and cease-fire in politics because of the Newtown massacre, the Left is still fighting. And give them credit--they continue to win the national debate. But we will continue to do the right thing and pray for the victims´ families and friends and make donations to these communities. To many on the Left, this is our weakness; in reality, it´s our strength.

Couldn´t he just tweet his message. That would have as much emotion as him being there in person.

Will the memorial be held in a Church? Wouldn´t that just take the cake.

It appears the Republican Party establishment and some conservative commentators have come up with another mistaken tactic to woo the low information and undecided voters. With the avalanche of scandals swirling around the Obama administration and the Democratic Party, the political message promoted by these politicians and pundits is that these scandals are the outcome of a government that has grown too large to control and should therefore be dramatically cut back.

The current abusive conduct by the IRS is breathtaking in its audacity. When you look at last Friday´s testimony Acting Commisioner Steven Miller there is a clear disconnect -- the doesn´t think anyone did anything illegal, unconstitutional, or even wrong. Apart from a stark posture of arrogance and negative body language, he represents a very large group of people we need to worry about. This guy is beyond zealotry -- he has gone straight to certainty that he is right, his actions are justified and he can´t be touched. He´s like Obama´s buddy Bill Ayers

After running an errand at the Courthouse, I decided to pop into the Barrister Bar and Bistro for a quick bite. The place was packed and Charlie, the maitre d´, shrugged his shoulders apologetically. "There´s a huge party here this afternoon, but I can seat you at the bar if you don´t mind." I didn´t mind and was happy to see that my favorite bartender, Joe, was at work, I pulled out USA Today and read until he was free: "After February 2010, the IRS didn´t approve a single Tea Party tax-exempt application until spring 2012

Lew asks Congress for debt increase,
says it’s ´not open to debate´

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

By all accounts, today´s college campuses grow more intolerant by the day. We move closer to the old Soviet Empire, where political dissidents risked the gulag for even joking about Marxism. In the U.S., however, the hate crimes concern anything that touches on race, ethnicity, gender differences, diversity, and sexuality (see here and here). Even an old-fashioned ethnic joke almost guarantees mandatory counseling. Skeptics need only look at the pervasiveness of campus speech codes, coerced sensitivity training, the mandatory injection of multicultural propaganda into courses, and other top-down censorship.

BALTIMORE — Trying to reset the agenda amid scandal in Washington, President Barack Obama turned his attention Friday to the economy and said lawmakers should spend every day resolute on how to help it grow and get people back to work. “Our focus cannot drift,” he said. After a week that put him on the defensive and consumed by a trio of political controversies, Obama left the turmoil behind on a short helicopter flight about 40 miles north to Baltimore. The city has had its share of tough times in its move from an industrial to service economy

Benghazi Narrative Shift

"We´ve seen rage and violence directed at American embassies over an awful Internet video that we had nothing do to with," said Hillary Clinton to the families of the four Americans killed at Benghazi and others gathered at a September 2012 memorial service. Her boss, President Barack Obama, had been reciting the same lie in one forum after another in the days following the September 11 attack on the American outpost in Benghazi. To give the lie credence, his Justice Department immured the producer of the video, a Coptic Christian named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, in a West Texas prison.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state
