| Updated at 5:26 p.m. ET: A teacher´s son -- clad in black and carrying two 9mm pistols -- rampaged through a Connecticut elementary school Friday, killing 20 small children and six adults, including his mother, in the nation’s second-worst school shooting, law enforcement officials said. The gunman, identified as Adam Lanza, 20, was also found dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, law enforcement officials said. Fox News is reporting that Adam Lanza lived with his mother in Newtown. Woke up this morning, shot his mother in the face, then took her car and drove to the school. She was a teacher at the school and most of the dead children were in her kindergarten classroom.
Lanza´s father in N.J. is alive and being questioned. According to brother Ryan Lanza, Adam had a history of mental illness.

The rabid left says the problem is guns, many of us on the right say moral decay, David Frum say lack of mental health services.
I would be curious about the shooter´s illegal drug use. And violent videogame collection.

There are average of 90 people killed per day in the U.S. by motor vehicles.

I´ve seen lots of crazies where I live that I think should be locked up. "Institutionalized" would be the preferable term.
We have nuts roaming loose on the streets. Anyone who is violence-prone should be locked up. Allowing crazies to roam at will is, in fact, crazy.
If the current policy continues... simply expect more massacres like this... unfortunately.

The problem is how someone with a history of mental illness legally could have bought these guns.

I am so moved...(sniff)...by our Dear Leader´s emotions...(sniff)...about this regrettable incident. Jeez...this is one of the most horrific things that have happened in this country, including Columbine and 9/11. And President DumbF*** comes on and feigns emotion?

You can’t stop the source of the problem, especially in our godless society.
Schools must protect the children by arming the teachers.
If a teacher refuses to be armed and accept that their primary responsibility is to protect the children, they should be fired.
It is outrageous the school did not protect the children.

Guns are not the problem. Society is. Guns have been around and easily accessed for centuries and mass shootings are a modern trend. To use these atrocities as a spring board to talk about guns is shallow and despicable. And still, we need to have the conversation about why there are so many people with hearts this dark.
Take all the guns and the next mass murder will include explosions and fire. It´s what´s in the heart and mind, not what´s in the hand.

The disinformation about this attack is already flying from NBC, ABC and CBS. I believe that if and when we get to the bottom of this attack, it will come down to the "psycho-activity" of drugs that were either not taken that should have been or were taken that should not have been. What we really need is a serious discussion of mood altering drugs and how much a person should be physically restrained while adjusting to these drugs. Psychiatrists should be required to admit patients for whom they have prescribed these drugs.

The guns belonged to the mother. And, yes, Fauxbama fake-cried his way through the news conference. Actor-in Chief.
God help the family and friends of those poor dead babies massacred today.

I agree with #1. This is a sign of moral decline. This woman was probably a liberal, union member; incapable and unwilling to discipline her son . Spare the rod, spoil the child. Apparently he used her Licensed firearms for matricide. If she had kept herself armed at all times , as I do, this event never would have happened. Protecting ones self is a moral obligation. The liberal fascists must not be allowed to use this event to take away our guns!

Re #4, the two handguns he used, which were found in the school, were legally registered to his mother, Nancy Lanza, who was his first victim.
The other weapon - a rifle - was found in her car, which he had driven to the school.

His father lives in Stamford, CT, and is alive.
Adam Lanza lived - at least part-time - with his mother.

New Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz doesn’t want to spend his tenure battling over climate science. “Let me make it very clear that there is no ambiguity in terms of the scientific basis calling for a prudent response on climate change,” Moniz told Energy Department employees shortly after his swearing-in. “I am not interested in debating what is not debatable,” Moniz said in his remarks at the Tuesday ceremony. “There is plenty to debate as we try and move forward on our climate agenda.”

Among the criteria by which the Internal Revenue Service selected groups in for its political targeting program in 2012 was "educating on the constitution and bill of rights" (lowercase in original), according to the Inspector General´s Report. Lois Lerner, who directs the office at the center of that effort, has received her own education in the Constitution.(Snip)Josh Marshall, proprietor of TalkingPointsMemo.com, concedes that Lerner "has every right" to invoke the Fifth Amendment "and may be wise to do so. But that´s a decision that simply is not consistent with her remaining in her job.

CINCINNATI, OH - The claim that the ongoing IRS scandal is limited to low level employees is falling apart. The six Cincinnati workers we have identified, who sent scrutinizing letters to conservative groups with words including "patriot, liberty, tea party or 9-12" in their names are Mitchel Steele, Carly Young, Joseph Herr, Stephen Seok, Liz Hofacre and a woman identified only as Ms. Richards. (Snip) Because all six of our IRS workers have different individual and territory managers, Cindy Thomas is one manager they all have common.

We can now officially call the Obama administration besieged. One of President Obama´s underlings is set to plead her Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination in the burgeoning IRS scandal. The Los Angeles Times broke the story: Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won´t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening - or why she didn´t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

Apple is one of America´s most profitable companies. And it pays a substantial income tax bill to the U.S. government -- by its own account, $6 billion in 2012 and an estimated $7 billion this year. But many tax experts and lawmakers say Apple´s tax bill should be bigger. A lot bigger. The concern is that Apple (Snip), while complying with U.S. laws, is nevertheless taking advantage of loopholes in the tax code to shift a substantial amount of income to offshore subsidiaries in low-tax countries. The result is billions of dollars in profits every year that go untaxed.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
