Updated at 5:26 p.m. ET: A teacher´s son -- clad in black and carrying two 9mm pistols -- rampaged through a Connecticut elementary school Friday, killing 20 small children and six adults, including his mother, in the nation’s second-worst school shooting, law enforcement officials said. The gunman, identified as Adam Lanza, 20, was also found dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, law enforcement officials said. Later, an unidentified woman was found fatally shot in the face at a home in Newtown (Snip) Their mother is a kindergarten teacher

Fox News is reporting that Adam Lanza lived with his mother in Newtown. Woke up this morning, shot his mother in the face, then took her car and drove to the school. She was a teacher at the school and most of the dead children were in her kindergarten classroom.

Lanza´s father in N.J. is alive and being questioned. According to brother Ryan Lanza, Adam had a history of mental illness.

The rabid left says the problem is guns, many of us on the right say moral decay, David Frum say lack of mental health services.

I would be curious about the shooter´s illegal drug use. And violent videogame collection.

There are average of 90 people killed per day in the U.S. by motor vehicles.

I´ve seen lots of crazies where I live that I think should be locked up.
"Institutionalized" would be the preferable term.

We have nuts roaming loose on the streets.
Anyone who is violence-prone should be locked up.
Allowing crazies to roam at will is, in fact, crazy.

If the current policy continues...
simply expect more massacres like this...

The problem is how someone with a history of mental illness legally could have bought these guns.

I am so moved...(sniff)...by our Dear Leader´s emotions...(sniff)...about this regrettable incident.
Jeez...this is one of the most horrific things that have happened in this country, including Columbine and 9/11. And President DumbF*** comes on and feigns emotion?

You can’t stop the source of the problem, especially in our godless society.

Schools must protect the children by arming the teachers.

If a teacher refuses to be armed and accept that their primary responsibility is to protect the children, they should be fired.

It is outrageous the school did not protect the children.

Guns are not the problem. Society is. Guns have been around and easily accessed for centuries and mass shootings are a modern trend. To use these atrocities as a spring board to talk about guns is shallow and despicable. And still, we need to have the conversation about why there are so many people with hearts this dark.

Take all the guns and the next mass murder will include explosions and fire. It´s what´s in the heart and mind, not what´s in the hand.

The disinformation about this attack is already flying from NBC, ABC and CBS. I believe that if and when we get to the bottom of this attack, it will come down to the "psycho-activity" of drugs that were either not taken that should have been or were taken that should not have been. What we really need is a serious discussion of mood altering drugs and how much a person should be physically restrained while adjusting to these drugs. Psychiatrists should be required to admit patients for whom they have prescribed these drugs.

The guns belonged to the mother. And, yes, Fauxbama fake-cried his way through the news conference. Actor-in Chief.

God help the family and friends of those poor dead babies massacred today.

I agree with #1. This is a sign of moral decline. This woman was probably a liberal, union member; incapable and unwilling to discipline her son . Spare the rod, spoil the child.
Apparently he used her Licensed firearms for matricide. If she had kept herself armed at all times , as I do, this event never would have happened. Protecting ones self is a moral obligation.
The liberal fascists must not be allowed to use this event to take away our guns!

Re #4, the two handguns he used, which were found in the school, were legally registered to his mother, Nancy Lanza, who was his first victim.

The other weapon - a rifle - was found in her car, which he had driven to the school.

His father lives in Stamford, CT, and is alive.

Adam Lanza lived - at least part-time - with his mother.

It´s Final -- Corn
Ethanol Is Of No Use

OK, can we please stop pretending biofuel made from corn is helping the planet and the environment? With huge subsidies for ethanol in gasoline, with all States now selling gasoline having some ethanol blend, and a general misconception that these biofuels are green, corn ethanol has taken on a $30 billion/yr life of its own. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released two of its Working Group reports at the end of last month (WGI and WGIII), and their short discussion of biofuels has ignited a fierce debate as to whether they’re of any environmental benefit at all.

It´s all happening at the zoo today, Easter Sunday in Sydney, where Prince George met a cute little critter named for him and the world got to see the royal baby for a second official appearance. After Easter services at the Anglican cathedral in Sydney in the morning, Prince William and Duchess Kate changed clothes, collected George and headed for the Taronga Zoo, Sydney´s harbor-side menagerie of Australia´s wonderfully quirky wildlife. It was another beautiful sunny day and thousands had been waiting to see them for hours before the zoo opened. Eventually there were so many people, the zoo closed to further

NEW YORK - Last week´s Heartbleed Internet bug revealed a startling fact. The software protecting banks, email, social media and government is maintained by only a few people. They´re all volunteers. And only one does it as a full-time job. Their labor of love is OpenSSL, a free program that secures a lot of online communication. And it was a tiny coding slip-up two years ago that caused the Heartbleed bug, a hole that allows attackers to peer into computers. The bug forced emergency changes last week at major websites like Facebook (FB, Fortune 500), Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) and Yahoo (YHOO,

Senior administration officials said there is no indication that the HealthCare.gov site has been compromised and the action is being taken out of an abundance of caution. The government´s Heartbleed review is ongoing, the officials said, and users of other websites may also be told to change their passwords in the coming days, including those with accounts on the popular

JACKSON, Wyo. – A slow-motion disaster continued unfolding in the Wyoming resort town of Jackson on Saturday, as a creeping landslide that split a hillside home threatened to swallow up more houses and businesses. The ground beneath the 100-foot hillside had been slowly giving way for almost two weeks before the downward movement accelerated in recent days. With rocks and dirt tumbling down, officials suspended efforts to shore up the slope and said they were uncertain what else could be done. "When is it going to go? How long is it going to last? For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. "The repeal debate is and should be over,” Obama said, taking a dig at Republicans who are “going through, you know, the stages of grief … anger and denial and all that stuff …” But a president who is viewed by most Americans as less

In a speech earlier this week, Lisa O. Monaco, President Barack Obama’s assistant for homeland security and counterterrorism, insisted that American parents must be vigilant because their “confrontational” children could be on the verge of becoming terrorists. Monaco’s full, prepared text is available here. She presented the speech, entitled “Countering Violent Extremism and the Power of Community,” at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government on April 15. Monaco began her remarks by eloquently describing the lives tragically lost last year during the Boston Marathon bombings. Interestingly, the Harvard grad failed to mention the religion or the motive of brothers Dzhokhar and Tamerlan

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like
