| As the nation heads ever closer to the so-called fiscal cliff— the January 1 deadline at which, absent congressional and presidential action, taxes will go up and (on January 2) spending will go down—both sides are bandying about accusations, counter-accusations, and counter-counter-accusations. Democrats are convinced that the GOP is not negotiating in good faith, as it is in hock to supposedly extreme antitax activists. Republicans are similarly convinced that President Barack Obama and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner are bad-faith actors, content to drive the nation over the cliff because it will advance the left’s long-term agenda

The republicans actually have more leverage than the media and pundits are giving them credit for. For one thing,Obama wants another stimulus and unemployment extension which he can´t get without House approval. Secondly,it´s not a surefire thing that the senate would pass a tax hike on the rich. There´s a lot of dem senators up for reelection in 2014 and a lot of the represent wealthy districts.
The left has to pretend to be for higher taxes to keep their grovelling base happy but they also need donations from rich liberals to finance their campaigns.
Using Buffet for a stooge,the left has created the impression that rich people can´t wait to pay higher taxes.Of course this is pure baloney as we see rich people fleeing high tax states all the time.
Republicans should call Obama´s bluff and take the hit for it.They´re going to get blamed regardless. For example they get blamed for the debt downgrade because of the ceiling fights,when the actual reason for the downgrade is we´re borrowing 47 cents of every dollar we spend.
The republicans aren´t going to improve their stock by caving to Obama.In fact it´ll make it harder for them to get re-elected or even pick up seats.
Jerry Brown was laughing it up when his big tax increase passed.He even claimed it would solve deficit problems as far as the eye can see,then he gets the first receipt report and tax collection went down.
It´s not even a question of whether the rich can "afford" to pay more. It´s the fact they´re being blamed for financial woes when it´s clearly abusive spending that´s the problem. Even Obama´s dinners he throws for his boosters and donors have huge cost overruns.

Obe is posing again with the cry that Congress (GOP) must renew the middle class tax cuts. So why isn´t the House passing a bill with one goal--renew the Bush tax rates while putting nothing more in the bill?
Pass it then tell the obe he had better make Harry put it through the Senate.. Oh we know the answer He has no control over the aims of Harry.

Texas Gov. Rick Perry told The Wall Street Journal Wednesday that the American people will not trust Washington on immigration reform until the U.S.-Mexican border is secured. “I’m not sure they can pass a piece of legislation that promises to secure the border and does all these other things from the standpoint of legalizing individuals who are here, and modernizing the program that allows people to come into the United States, until they have shown Americans that they’re serious about securing the border,” he said. President Obama told a German audience today that the U.S. lags behind other countries because Americans don´t speak enough foreign languages. It’s not the first time he’s expressed the sentiment: back in 2008, Obama said, “It´s embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe and all we can say is merci beaucoup, right?" Obama may be right that Americans should speak more foreign languages. (Of course, that leaves aside the propriety of lambasting the people you lead while representing them in a foreign country.)

Last month, Gallup conducted a survey to determine small business attitudes toward the Affordable Health Care Act, better known as Obamacare. The results were not encouraging for backers of the law. An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Celebrity chef Paula Deen admitted in a recorded deposition to telling racist jokes, using the N-word, and planning a slavery-themed wedding, according to multiple reports. The May 17 deposition where she made the alleged admissions is part of a $1.2 million lawsuit brought by Lisa Jackson, the former manager of a Savannah, Georgia, restaurant run by Deen and her brother Bubba Hiers. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
