The Republican Hispanic challenge

Although Mitt Romney took flak for his statement that he lost the election because President Obama bestowed "gifts" on key parts of the electorate, what he said is basically true. We´re stuck in a deadly spiral where economic growth is retarded because the economy is larded with enormous and ever increasing government spending and debt. Yet, more and more Americans want the lard. President Obama got re-elected by promising to continue to serve it up. Romney´s failure, and the failure of the Republican Party, is not that Obama is pulling this off but that they can´t get their act together

One message: You´ll never get rich on welfare.
Another: What you take from the government comes out of your neighbor´s pocket.
And Another: Inflation is the result of printing money to pay off debt with cheap dollars and is a hidden tax you pay.
And Another: The more you want from the government the better the chance of getting a charlatan for a leader.
I love this one: Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. JFK

If all that the Hispanics is free stuff, how can there be outreach?

Clamoring for free stuff is anti American at its core, a lesson that will take at least a generation for these twits to realize.

The democrats have finally put a long time hurt on this country.

I have been told by a resident of a Southwestern state that the people coming into the United States illegally from Mexico are, as a rule, not the most productive examples of humanity.

It seems to me that the logical thing to do would be to keep them out at all costs, and to work on reducing the population of them already in the country.

If your basement is flooding, you would ordinarily stop the inflow of water before you begin remodelling; secondarily you would get rid of the excess dirty water that had come in; and I think that this where we should begin.

The fact is, most of them come to this country to find decent work. They may not be politically sophisticated, but you can certainly say that of the majority of citizens.
My experience with them is they are largely gentle, reliable, and honest people - a significant cut above the US citizens they compete with for jobs. Nothing would get done in my part of the country if they weren´t here, because nobody else will work like they do.
Conservatives have an opportunity to show them the way, if they will take the chip off their shoulder and try treating them like people.

Until I got to #6, I found this thread terribly disheartening. #6 gets it, but based on the earlier comments, is it any wonder that middle-class, hard-working, legal Hispanics distrust and dislike Republicans? We speak of them as if they are "dirty water". Some of those families´ heritage in this country predates a whole lot of non-Hispanics. We have to gain their trust and the way to do that is by differentiating between illegals and citizens. We have to show that we respect them. Do you know the percentage of Hispanics in our armed forces? In our city and state governments? In our workplaces, churches and neighborhoods? They want the same productive and safe environment as anyone else. We should ask the to join us in our efforts instead of holding our noses when we say Hispanic.

I concur with the personal experiences related by #6 and #7 above, but I´m cautious about confusing personal experiences with political reality. The reality is this: These decent, hard-working, pro-family individuals collectively voted overwhelmingly against a Republican candidate who exemplifies those values in every aspect of his personal life. Why? In his confidential talk with donors, Romney also said this: "Going forward, clearly we have to have an immigration plan, this idea of just kicking this down the field until every four years the Democrats use it as an issue to hit us over the head with is nuts, we have to have an immigration plan and program, and I certainly hope that our leaders in Washington are willing to put that forward."

No-one hit Republicans over head on illegal immigration more than Mitt Romney. From 2008 onwards, any Republican who suggested any plan that didn´t involve all illegals leaving the country was attacked by Romney as pro-amnesty, including McCain, Perry, and Gingrich. It was one position where Mitt was indisputably more conservative than his rivals. Now he thinks it was a factor in his loss and calls on "our leaders in Washington" to extricate the party from the position he chose to run on. Mitt spent four years positioning himself to win the nomination while alienating the Hispanic vote, and he did both. Our challenge is find candidates who know what their conservative principles are and can convincingly defend those principles to diverse and sometimes unsympathetic constituencies.

It is historical fact that if the wimpy Republicans go along with a liberal Democrat written amnesty again, that they will eventually be handing the liberal Democrats millions of new foreign born, mostly poor, generally uneducated voters, who will only earn for the most part a low wage in this country.

Anyone who believes that those people are going to have an epifinany and vote for the Republicans because of "family values" over the liberal Democrats and their promises of more and more government provided social welfare related benefits and services is living in a fairyland.

The Republican Presidential candidate should have known better then to publicly get down into the specific tactics of ridding the country of much of the current illegal alien population by citing easily misunderstood terms as "voluntary deportation" that strike fear in ethnic and immigrant communities, thus giving the liberal Democrats and their ethnic media allies a point that they could easily demagogue to death before the election. When all he had to say is that he supported the effect enforcement of the immigration laws.

Hispanics can be either conservative or liberal.
I suggest they drop the hispanic in front of American and stop being hyphenated and choose the party that fits their values. Makes no difference what your heritage is. If you want to worship God freely, work hard and set a goal for your children to be wealthy and follow the teachings of your Church, you are usually conservative. If you consider the gov´t your father, you are a liberal.
The same can be said for Africans.

I agree with all #10 says, but if we fail to meet the political reality with the people who are here, and will continue to come here until the border is controlled, we are cooked. These folks are here, and they are not likely to go away, no matter how much some might wish so. It is foolish to continue to let the dems own this group of people, especially when many of them are natural conservatives. We are missing a good opportunity.

When I hire an illegal I don´t have to worry about OSHA, lots of taxes and regulations, whether or not the EEOC would approve of my selection standards and benefit? Hah! Better yet, I pick them up for a day´s work with no worry about long term commitment to them...the kind a hard working American would want if he has a mortgage and family.

If you think Hispanics are a cut above the American worker because of ethic when they´re being hired because it gives the employer an (illegal) price advantage... go back and ask some questions.

The negativity and abject hatred shown towards Hispanics in this thread is the reason we will never win the WH again. I say we as in conservatives. Republicans don´t qualify as conservatives and neither do racists that troll Lucianne.com.

The way to win the 2016 vote is to be an inclusive party where Hispanics who are inclined to be conservative as some blacks may have been at one time, would find the party as having more to offer and I don´t mean free stuff. The black vote has been poisoned and the Hispanic vote will be too by dems. Poster #1 wrote a perfect commercial for the dems in the next election. Rules are rules, but lumping everyone into the criminal pile is not the way to go.

Ignorance won this election. Those who vote D are ignorant in history, economics, and the truth about the Obama administration. Republicans continue to remain ignorant about how influential the schools and media are.In addition, I doubt if many people are aware of the sheer size of programs that are offered to recent immigrants. They are indoctrinated from the moment they step in this country to think that Republicans are going to take away all the assistance for their children and deport them. Who is there to counter that narrative?

Tallahassee, Fla. — Early on the morning of Dec. 7, 2012, a freshman at Florida State University reported that she had been raped by a stranger somewhere off campus after a night of drinking at a popular Tallahassee bar called Potbelly’s. As she gave her account to the police, several bruises began to appear, indicating recent trauma. Tests would later find semen on her underwear. For nearly a year, the events of that evening remained a well-kept secret until the woman’s allegations burst into the open, roiling the university and threatening a prized asset: Jameis Winston, one of the marquee names of

Almost 300 people are missing off the coast of South Korea after a ferry there, carrying mostly schoolchildren, capsized and sank. About 164 people have been pulled from the wreckage, and the race to find survivors is well underway. No one ever expects a disaster, but this one has especially stunned people. Passengers say they heard a loud thud, which suggests the vessel collided with something, but it´s too early to tell. "This particular ferry was built in Japan, who make some of the best ships in the world. It wasn´t anywhere near full and it was travelling a well-worn

WASHINGTON — It was a simple question to someone accustomed to much tougher ones: What was her proudest achievement as secretary of state? But for a moment, Hillary Rodham Clinton, appearing recently before a friendly audience at a women’s forum in Manhattan, seemed flustered. Mrs. Clinton played an energetic role in virtually every foreign policy issue of President Obama’s first term, advocating generally hawkish views internally while using her celebrity to try to restore America’s global standing after the hit it took during the George W. Bush administration. But her halting answer suggests a problem that Mrs. Clinton could confront as she

The head of the CIA just made a secretive journey to Ukraine—to do what, he won’t say. But the answer could change the power equation in the hottest of geopolitical hotspots. The Obama administration is now considering a new policy to share more real-time intelligence with the interim government in Kiev after pressure from some in the U.S. military, Congress and U.S. allies in Ukraine. Over the weekend, CIA director John Brennan met with Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and First Deputy Prime Minister Vitaliy Yarema to discuss the formation of new, more secure channels for sharing U.S. intelligence with the country

Ever since ObamaCare supposedly hit the arbitrary target of 7 million sign-ups by March 31, its supporters have been taking the most premature victory lap since conservative proponents of the Iraq War (like me) crowed about the results of the three elections inside Iraq in 2005 and how they demonstrated the country was on the verge of a historic peace. “It’s all over but the shouting: ObamaCare is working,” said Eugene Robinson in Tuesday’s Washington Post. “All the naysaying in the world can’t drown out mounting evidence that the Affordable Care Act, President Obama’s signature domestic achievement, is a real success.” Those

South Korean officials said Wednesday that nearly 300 people were still missing several hours after a passenger ferry sank off that country´s southern coast, leaving at least two dead and seven injured. A government official had said earlier Wednesday that around 100 people were unaccounted for, but the number was later revised upward due to a tallying error. The ferry was carrying 477 people, most of them high school students, and was bound for the island of Jeju when it sent a distress call at around 9 a.m. local time Wednesday as it began leaning to one side, according to

BOSTON - It was a shocking slaying in a Boston suburb that sometimes goes years without one homicide, let alone three at once. The victims´ throats had been sliced in a home on a tree-lined street, marijuana and cash strewn over their bodies. The investigation languished for more than 18 months until just a few days after the Boston Marathon explosions, when the FBI identified the suspected bombers as Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, and his brother, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, ethnic Chechens who emigrated from Russia to the U.S. about a decade ago.

Carson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20. “He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of

Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes.
