| Americans are very generous to people with disabilities. Since passage of the Americans With Disabilities Act in 1990, millions of public and private dollars have been spent on curb cuts, bus lifts and special elevators. The idea has been to enable people with disabilities to live and work with the same ease as others, as they make their way forward in life. I feel sure the large majority of Americans are pleased that we are doing this. But there is another federal program for people with disabilities that has had an unhappier effect.

Thats the game where I work. If you get mad at the boss or are about to be fired, put in for a fake disability. The employee doctor does her best catching them, but it is an uphill battle. Fake PTSD is another big one. They brag about the money they are dragging in. One guy said the military doctor told him "fake it till you make it."

Getting on disability is like winning the lottery for a lot of the recipients. This program is abused as much as the Earned Income Tax credit. Both should be stopped. The parasites and deadbeats have ruined these Democrat freebies.

Trouble is, with the great economy of our Dear Leader(US), for middle aged men in their 50´s, finding them out of a job and with little prospects in sight (how many times I was asked by some snot nose 30 something, "don´t you feel overqualified for this job?"), disability sounds like a decent out.
I even seriously considered it a year ago.

It´s not like as if you make a lot of money on SSI, and there are pretty strict work restrictions. I don´t think many people are turning to it unless they are desperate. Besides, the people I know, had to wait a year after going out on disability before applying for SS disability. And their long-term disability at work doesn´t necessarily last that long.

I used to work in a low income, low education area. It was amazing the number of work-age men walking around with canes. In these areas, if someone is successful in getting some kind of government aid, a whole lot of the others try to get the same thing, often successfully. Obama and the dems are keying in on this phenomenon to develop their permanent underclass of subservient voters.

Combine ssi with food stamps, a rent subsidy, or a government propped up mortgage and it´s a living. As for work restrictions, if so strict, why do ssi rolls burgeon? Barone is right, and it´s confirmed by human nature that once people draw disability for a year or so their career is likely over. Those who don´t work again won´t be counted as unemployed in the obama administration propaganda mInistry jobs reports. That´s a win win for the little marxist.

As I have mentioned before, in the wake of Obama´s reelection, two of the best financial investments to consider are gold and getting on disability.

I have a co-worker whose sister is on SSI due to drug use/addiction & she cleans houses for cash. Now why someone would let an admitted drug addict into their home to clean is another story...

Here´s a thought. The liberal Democrats want to legalize the up to 20 million illegal alien population and give them access to government programs like social security disability. Most illegal aliens now do not have access to such programs unless they falsely claim to be US citizens which some do.
The illegal alien population consists mainly of poor generally uneducated people who currently have little option but to accept hard low paying jobs when they can find them.
Once legalized and eligible for programs like social security disability and with human nature being what it is, you can bet that a huge number of those people will be taking a shot at getting on long term disability.
With most claiming that they can´t speak English during the adjudication process, represented by attorneys who know how to tailor the claims to meet the adjudication standard for approval of the claims, trying to only allow deserving individuals to end up with a pot of disability money will be like trying to untangle a mass of spaghetti.

In my long career as an insurance agent I got to see plenty of disability claims related to workers compensation insurance.
Plenty of fraud happens on the WC disability side. Everything from the guy who just happens to hurt himself before deer season opens. He only wants a few weeks off. The worst ones are the ones claiming some sort of back injury. They are looking for long term disabilty or, at the least, a hefty lump sum settlement.
And naturally, there are hordes of ambulance-chasing attorneys offering their services to these poor ´victims´. They advertise on Atlanta TV 24/7.

It takes at least a year to start collecting disability from SSI. I always thought my husband went overboard buying insurance through his work and then he became ill last July and his short term and then long term disability took care of us and then some until he passed two months later. I can´t imagine trying to apply for benefits with the government while he was in the hospital -- I wouldn´t have been able to pay any bills.
If your company offers additional disability coverage, take it. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

BALTIMORE -- Orb is ready for his whirl at history. The Kentucky Derby winner was in a playful mood the day before the Preakness, making faces for photographers between nibbles of grass outside his stall at Pimlico Race Course. "I couldn´t be more pleased with the way he´s doing," trainer Shug McGaughey said at his final pre-Preakness media briefing Friday morning. "I can´t see any adversity. I would have to think it would take a pretty darn good horse to beat him if he goes over and runs his race." If he can defeat eight rivals

CANNES, France -- This weekend, stars may sport a little less bling and the parties could be a little less sparkly. Thieves broke in the hotel room of a Chopard employee, where the jewels were being kept in a safe in a hotel room. The robbers ripped the safe off the wall and left with everything in it, about $1 million in jewels, which were meant to loaned out to stars during the festival. Ironically, the jewels were stolen around 2:30 a.m., a few hours after the cast of director Sofia Coppola´s new film The Bling Ring

The scandals roiling Washington over the past two weeks involve troubling government behavior that had been hidden—the IRS targeting of conservative groups and the Justice Department´s surveillance of the Associated Press, among others. Largely overlooked amid the histrionics has been a shocker hiding in plain sight. Last week, the Obama administration moved to dramatically undermine students´ and faculty rights at colleges across the country. The new policy was announced in a joint letter from the Education Department and Justice Department to the University of Montana. The May 9 letter addressed the results of a year-long joint investigation

The recent spate of Washington scandals has some liberals finally confessing in public what many of them have said privately for a long time. The Obama administration is arrogant, insular, prone to intimidation of adversaries, and slovenly when it comes to seeing that rules are followed. Indeed, the Obama White House is a strange place, and it’s good that its operational model is now likely to be finally dissected by the media. Joe Klein of Time magazine laments Obama’s “unwillingness to concentrate.” Dana Milbank of the Washington Post tars him as a President Passerby who “seems to want no control

Representatives of the ATF and the Texas Fire Marshall provided an update on their joint investigation into the fertilizer plant explosion in West Texas. The short story is that the cause of the fire is undetermined. The long story is that the investigation has been as massive as was the explosion. At 7:29 pm on April 17, something caught fire in the seed and fertilizer building at the plant. Three minutes later, the fire department was dispatched; by 7:38 firefighters were on-scene. Three minutes later, more firefighters were called out. At 7:51, the fire was hot enough to change the sensitivity

Since the presidential election we have been told, repeatedly and gleefully, that the Republican Party is doomed, that demographics and history are on the side of President Barack Obama and the progressive movement, that the GOP base is unhinged, and that Tea Party radicalism threatens to upend conservative hopes not only in 2014 but also in 2016. But in the space of one week that story, true or not, has been eclipsed by another one: Washington has turned on Obama. A trio of scandals has given the Republicans “an issue to seize on.” Nixon’s shade haunts the Justice Department

The State Department, under Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, created an arrangement for her longtime aide and confidante Huma Abedin to work for private clients as a consultant while serving as a top adviser in the department. Ms. Abedin did not disclose the arrangement — or how much income she earned — on her financial report. It requires officials to make public any significant sources of income. An adviser to Mrs. Clinton, Philippe Reines, said that Ms. Abedin was not obligated to do so. The disclosure of the agreement that Ms. Abedin made with the State Department comes as her husband,

Nice try, Mr. President. Feigning anger, firing an unknown bureaucrat and fleeing the podium won’t cut it with voters, or stop the hemorrhaging of the scandals that have spawned a Watergate-like feel around the Obama administration. There was a certain panicky look about the way the president quickly delivered a rare evening White House statement to try to quell the growing outrage over the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups. The move showed how damaging the scandal has become to Obama’s second term and maybe even his presidency. But Obama took no questions and, more importantly,

Watching President Obama trying to dodge raindrops and responsibility yesterday reminded me of the moment when Dorothy pulls back the curtain and discovers that the Wizard of Oz is “just a man.” Stripped of his spell of mystery and power, the wizard is worse than mortal. He’s a fake. So it was with Obama in the Rose Garden. His performance was tired and trite, ordinary to the point of dull. His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

The White House on Wednesday released 94 pages of emails between top administration and intelligence officials who helped shape the talking points about the attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that the CIA would provide to policymakers in both the legislative and executive branches. The documents, first reported by THE WEEKLY STANDARD in articles here and here, directly contradict claims by White House press secretary Jay Carney and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that the revisions of those talking points were driven by the intelligence community and show heavy input from top Obama administration officials, particularly those at the State Department.

On Thursday´s NBC Today, in a desperate attempt to deflect from the scandals engulfing the Obama administration, co-host Savannah Guthrie wondered: "I read a headline yesterday that said Republicans see blood in the water. That they see a president who´s very vulnerable politically. Is there a danger that they will overreach?" Chief White House correspondent Chuck Todd agreed with the slanted premise: "There is. I mean, that´s what happened to Republicans in 1998 with Bill Clinton.

President Obama’s press conference in the rain was not a success, if by success, his supporters would mean an event which convinces anyone who doesn’t work for him that he’s getting ahead of the scandal deluge. The sight of a Marine holding an umbrella over his head only added to the weirdness of the event. So what did we learn? 1. He has full confidence in Attorney General Eric Holder, the man who purportedly recused himself (whenever) without putting it in writing (whatever). When asked about the untrammeled snooping on Associated Press reporters and editors,
