More Americans Will Use Food
Stamps For Thanksgiving This
Year Than Ever Before

More Americans will use food stamps to buy their Thanksgiving dinner this year than ever before, according to a new report from the nonprofit government watchdog group The Sunlight Foundation. The Food Stamp Challenge, which challenges higher-income families to live as if they are on food stamps, estimates that a person on food stamps has a budget of about $1.25 per meal. In other words, a family on food stamps must buy an entire meal per person for less than the cost of an average cup of coffee.

I guess they will have to skip the chips and soda for a week so they can buy the turkey. Oh wait a minute, they probably got the turkey free from the food bank.

...OF COURSE there will be more using stamps than ever. DUH!. 0bama has gotten more hooked on them as ever...

...and of course, many are blessed by having them. But I have seen enough overflowing carts with junk I would never buy WOULD SOMEONE like to study the link between the increase of food stamps and obesity and diabetes in the country. Their diet would seem to lead one there...

We haven´t had turkey in a zillion years. We usually go to a vegetarian relative´s for Thanksgiving. They really have enormous neighborhood Thanksgivings - they invite all the strays so they´ll have somewhere to be.

This year will be different. The relative in question, professional and well-off, is no longer so well off due to the economy, so has to be on the road by air almost all the time to pick up assignments here and there and is really too tired/weary to do Thanksgiving. We have also had to make changes and don´t have the time/money to spare to go up. etc. etc.

It won´t be a year of family and gathering, that´s for sure.

I´d be happy with some stuffing/cranberry and gravy.

My cup of coffee doesn´t cost a buck twenty-five. I buy it on sale and brew my own. That is where the premise is flawed.

I think if you have a family of four, you can easily prepare a meal of sale-purchased meat, fresh vegetables or salad ingredients, and potatoes or rice. You might have to eat hamburger or not the greatest chicken parts, but it can be done. Also, the meat-flavored meal, vs the meat dominated meal, makes this workable for a five dollar budget for the meal.

The comparison to the store-bought cup of coffee makes me think the average person thinks they are deprived if they can´t buy prepared food from the grocery store or a restaurant. Learning how to cook and otherwise take care of oneself is the best way to live on a tight budget.

We all have tales of being in line behind someone buying all regular-priced meats and processed foods instead of items to cook from scratch.

That is, in line behind someone with an EBT card buying regular-priced items.

If you prepare your food from scratch, Thanksgiving dinner is one of the cheapest meals to prepare, and will feed a bunch feed people.

I´ve had to cut out the appetizers I used to serve, and no Andes mints after diner. One S-I-L brings some beer, and now that the Gramma´s have departed this world, I save on the booze. No one drinks Manhattan´s any more.

Now that I think abut it I really wish I still had to worry about the Manhattan fixin´s.

Of course all the way to town today there were ads asking us to buy turkeys to distribute to the "poor". My response to that is...don´t sell your food stamps to buy dope this month and buy your own turkey!

Why should I donate to food banks for the "needy" when the needy enjoy the benefits of my hard earned money every day. Sitting on their fat butts doing nothing but collecting from the stash?

My heart has hardened.

A majority of Americans voted in 2012 out of fear of a destitute future filled with dependence on the government handouts thanks to a school system that produces crappy graduates & union fat cats pricing the US out of manufacturing, rather out of faith in future success based on free enterprise & hard work.

The cultural mileau of the US has change for the worse thanks to coarsening of popular entertainment which has been more focused on money-making than on uplifting & inspiring people.

Thanksgiving has now become less on recognizing God´s beneficience & grace and more of just another occasion for families to gather together.

True story. I followed a women and her two children through the store last night. I overheard her telling her son that obama needs to change Thanksgiving to the beginning of the month when her "obama stash money" comes through. How can obama expect people to have enough money left close to the end of the month? Yes, she was black. Dear God help us.

It´s so ironic. This holiday started as a result of thankfulness, which is free, and available to everyone 24/7- but the food was limited to what was produced or hunted.

Now thankfulness seems to be in very short supply...but the EBT cards are free.

I am forever grateful that my husband and I lived on graduate student wages ($3000) in the late 60s (about $16000 today) -- and that was with a baby. I learned to do wonders with hamburger and whatever´s on sale, and still do.

Yep, the food stamp crowd will be first in line on Black Friday, creating a rumpus, buying junk.

Yesterday Rush was talking about the second biggest item in a damily´s budget now. The cell phone bill, averaging 300-400/ month.

How many of the Obama voters on cell phones have tricked out phones with data service? These dang people have no idea what it costs to raise a child(ren), because the government is doing it for them.

I´ve had it with these dang people. Last Friday I was in Wal Mart behind people here illegally. They bought a tray of mini sized Pringles, a big pack of jello individual serving sizes, brand name diapers, etc. Why am I buying store brand paper towels, shampoo, cereal? I don´t buy the mini packs of stuff b/c it´s not a wise use of my money. I get so angry. I´m Catholic, and the bishops are all behind the DREAM act, yet the bishops have no regard for the immorality of people here illegally, receiving US taxpayer paid benefits.

Romney was right - this election was won/bought by Obama giving tax dollars to certain groups. Jindal, Huckabee, et all can stuff it about the GOP having a message to reach out to everyone. Just what was it about Romney´s message that was meant for everyone?

If I see one more box at my office or grocery store for the local food bank - I´m gonna scream.

I couldn´t possibly eat that much! Having just gone through the local Piggly-Wiggly Sunday, I couldn´t have gotten to the meat counter even if I could have afforded a piece of beef. All eight check-out lines were open with baskets backed up into the aisle. Not many turkeys in the baskets, but dozens of packages of steaks, Sprite, cookies, chips, ice cream, pizza, Honey Buns. It is not only the Food Stamp card, it´s the free Obamaphone that comes with it. I heard that President FoodStamps has redistributed 18,000,000. This is a nice voting community that can be easily organized when agitation or votes are needed. No wonder they turn out to vote for more freebies from Obama´s stash.

In Argentina General Juan Peron used to distribute gifts such as bicycles. Seventy years later Peronistas are still geing elected over and over again.

I was always put on the roster to work on Black Fridays. Talk about welcome to the jungle. Now these will be the same people who will buying their Thanksgiving dinner preps with their EBT cards. Ghetto Thanksgiving Prayer:

Lord, we give thanks to King Obama for giving us poor welfare people our free Obamaphones, free HUD housing, free SNAP/EBT benefits, free Head Start, and free Medicaid. Thank you for enabling a ghetto culture where no one needs a father, no one needs a job, and our only obligation in life is to go to the polls every 4 years and vote Democratic for president and for Congress. We thank you that we have a Treasury Secretary and a Majority Leader (both honkies who work for King Obama) who help pay for this by jacking up the debt limit and want to give out unlimited ghetto gravy trains forever. We thank the industrious Chinese for working hard to support this welfare way of life, as well as all of those hard working working class Americans who work two and three jobs just to make ends meet. We thank all of you for working so hard just so that we can spend our money on fancy bling, fancy cars, numerous booty calls, and promiscuous lifestyles. What a wonderful Lord you are, Obama! You enable us to be lazy, rude, and shiftless for entire generations. In you and Michelle´s name, Amen.

I work with older "poor" people. They have all their medical expenses free, their modest appartment costs them $200 a month, their kids and grandkids are usually well off. So, these older people get about $700 cash a month and about $170 food stamps a month (for one person). So, as a result, they do not know what to do with their money - they have leftovers every month. They do not drink or smoke, they do not gamble, they cook at home and do not travel anymore. So, every month they offer extra food stamps to their kids, and kids do not want to use them in the supermarket by the bunch of reasons, one of them being pride.
So, really needy people who can not work, actually have more than enough. And yong people capable of work should be ashamed using food stamps either. Besides, they want many things to buy, so they would be much better off if they apply for a job.

Simon cited two former U.S. diplomats: Stevens’ mission in Benghazi, they will say, was to buy back Stinger missiles from al-Qaeda groups issued to them by the State Department, not by the CIA.

New emails between Internal Revenue Service officials released Wednesday as part of congressional testimony give a better view of who knew of the screening of conservative tea party groups and the search terms being used, and when they knew it. The documents also show a bit of the process the IRS used in such situations, but do not answer the question at the heart of the controversy – who made the decision to search for such groups and why. The string of emails is from early June 2011, sparked by a request from Holly Paz,

WASHINGTON — As they watched President Obama lumber into controversy over mandating contraception coverage last winter, some White House staffers were banging their heads against the wall. The lawyers had done it again. Tensions between operatives and the lawyers hired to protect them from legal trouble are a constant in politics. But as President Obama’s beleaguered aides look for someone to blame in an escalating series of scandals, former political, communications, and policy officials complained to BuzzFeed that one culprit is a balance that has tilted too far toward the lawyer, allowing avoidable controversies to boil over.
