Bobby Jindal’s got a funny way of showing how much he hates Obamacare and Washington bureaucracy: The Louisiana governor’s about to invite the feds to set up a health insurance exchange right in his backyard. So is Rick Perry in Texas. Ditto for John Kasich in Ohio. And Scott Walker in Wisconsin. These Republican governors, and more than a dozen others in red states around the country, have decided it’s better to have Obamacare forced on them than to legitimize it by setting up their own exchanges, even if that means empowering the federal government at the expense of the states.
Comments: I am not sure which way they should go. It´s like one of Chavez´s rigged elections where the opposition is not sure whether to participate or not.
This is a classic lose-lose situation. It doesn´t matter what happens, we the citizens lose and the states lose. This is like the famous words uttered by the driver of a car about to be in a wreck, ´Hold my beer and watch this!´
It´s an expensive, complex operation that the states shouldn´t undertake. There are over 600 pages of federal regulation dealing with just the exchanges. This is the grandest shovel ready project ever for IT guys.
Don´t believe a word from Politico. It´s the exact opposite, if the Red-state governors excepts Obamacare then it would go through quickly. Since they´re not accepting it, then I think it will be tough for Obamacare to go through. That´s just how I´m looking at it.
"Section 1311 of the ACA provides for premium subsidies to insurance companies in state exchanges only. No such funding mechanism exists for a federal exchange, leaving the feds unable to offer the billions of dollars of taxpayer-funded subsidies needed to purchase insurance company support"
Gov.Kasich sent a letter to the fed.gov. that Ohio will retain all regulatory authority for Ohio;s Insurance industry and that we will retain control of Ohios Medicaid eligiblity detemination process. His letter stated that Ohio will not operate a federally mandated exchange. Ohio will not turn over to the fed.gov.the right to determine Medicaid and CHIP elegibility for its citizens Ohio has no plans to run a state reinsurance program. Ohio residence also voted to NOT participate in obamanotsomuchcare...
Bobby Jindal was just on Fox Sunday Morning and said as much. He is not wasting state dollars to set up something that is too expensive.
I live in Kentucky...I wish our numb-nuts governor were as smart...he´s another Obama loving mule. Governor Bashear is busy, busy, busy setting up our state exchange while we our state pensions are bleeding us dry, and we have a billion $ deficit in a state where the constitution does not allow it. Go figure.
This idiot author writes like the Feds have any authority in law to set up a federal exchange for a state, or that SCOTUS did not take away the "or else" when a state refuses to jump to their command & control.
Do some reading, jerk, and report all of the facts.
A writer from American Thinker explained these exchanges. Too much unknown for states to be signing on to a state exchange, and it´s going to be very expensive for them. No funds for a federal exchange so hopefully it will all collapse. Our governor didn´t sign on to a state exchange either, bless his heart!
As usual, Poltico is playing to its ignorant base. The feds want the states to be ´greeters´ only. Anything the state would try to include has to be approved at the fed level. The populace will be able to see federal health care up close and personal. The feds will try, but there will be no way to blame these states for the mess that is being proposed. Although Politico will try.
I noticed right away that the AP, you know, the A-- Press, was using the same meme when reporting the first Republican Governors refusing to accept obamadon´tcare, that they were not willing to "help" their citizens who don´t have health insurance to find health insurance.

" have the furor directed in the right location. " Actually, the right location would be toward "Mein Fuher" It collapses, but will it go down fast enough? These are Storm Troopers on the other side of the aisle. How much damage can they do? Enough to prevent our putting the pieces of Humpty Dumpty together again?
If Texas is not involved, Texas citizens don´t have to be involved. If the feds get ridiculous (and we all know they will), Texas can pass a law exempting all Texas citizens from having to follow the federal mandate. Then we can see how strong the 10th amendment is.
#8 has the correct answer, the Fed only allow the tax credit for STATE run HC exchanges. They would have to pass new provisions in Congress to allow for credit for Federal exchanges. That is not going to pass muster with Congress at this time. Also it is so clear why this was in the ACA to start with, even OBAMA is not going to overrule it with an Exec Order.
He of the clan of perpetually oppressed, should have figured out by now, we´re not playing their game.
The first rule of dog fighting: Fight the way you want to fight, not the way your opponent wants you to fight. It´s what they´ve been doing to us. Time to turn the tables. To do this, we need a new team in Washington.
How will the millions and millions of jobless Obama voters buy health insurance through bureaucratic exchanges? Or rather, with what? Is Bernanke going to speed up the presses and print out more increasingly worthless dollars to pay for it? And wait till they die while waiting for 72 hours for a doctor to be available to see them .
Gee, Massa Allen, we is just a bunch of redneck hicks here in flyover country. We´s just ain´t understands all dat complicated lie-beral logics you just done esplained here.
I´s guess we just too busy holden on to ours guns and Bibles to understand all them high falutin words you been sayin. /sarcasm
Anybody else think that that is EXACTLY how Johathan Allen saw us as he wrote this??? It´s it amazing that all the states with Republican governors who refuse to participate in this state´s right suicide are the ones with the most booming economies and the freest people? When NØbamacare implodes (which will surely be caused by those evil redneck Republicans in Mr. Allen´s eyes), those same Republican states will have the least effect and will, as always, ride out the disaster in the best shape.
It´s so ´´cute´´ when lie-berlas try to be ´´logical´´. They fail every time, because their brains are incapable of truly understanting logic, reason or facts. But let them keep trying, and let any average 4th grader find all the holes hin their ´´arugments´´...
Remember that crazy organization chart with all the intersecting lines that was Hillarycare? The chart for Obamacare is even worse plus the Supreme Court threw a big monkey wrench into the scheme as drawn when it ruled the feds can´t order the states to expand Medicaid.
A witness in the case of the murder of Venezuelan Ambassador Olga Fonseca in Kenya 2012 told a court in Nairobi on Wednesday that the diplomatic mission would use the diplomatic bag for drug-trafficking purposes. "I am aware that the embassy was used to traffic drugs using the diplomatic bag," said former embassy driver Kevin Lameck, AFP reported. Fonseca, aged 57, was found strangled to death in her residence in Nairobi in July 2012. Seven people have been accused in the case, including Dwight Sagaray, the then first secretary of the embassy. Lameck´s statement was issued during cross-examination by Sagarya´s defense Lawyer Katwa Kigen.
A group of 25 people identified as members of Colombian rebel National Liberation Army (ELN) evicted some 150 people out of a tourist resort south Táchira state, specifically in La Espuma town, southwest Venezuela, local press reported. According to newspaper El Diario de Los Andes, the troops carried rifles and were dressed in military uniforms. They kicked people out of their rooms. They asked for the owner´s location and ordered people to leave, saying "this is ours now." El Diario de Los Andes informed the guerrilla group gave inhabitants until Monday to leave town, claiming it was now under the ELN´s control. Based
Socialism: Venezuela´s President Nicolas Maduro unveiled his big plan for socialism Monday night, just as a blackout engulfed the country. Sure, it´s comical. But it´s less so upon realizing that California may see the same thing. The downward slide in Caracas is becoming more of a cautionary tale than just a freak show of Stalinist communist throwbacks run wild. In California, energy officials warn that the state and others like it face a catastrophic collapse of its power grid due to the many green energy schemes that have made managing energy flow difficult. "Energy officials worry a lot these days
Looting and robbing spread to several areas of the Argentine city of Cordoba on Tuesday evening and night following a walkout from the police in the midst of a conflict over pay and other benefits. The Supermarkets association has anticipated its members will not open their stores on Wednesday unless police forces are back patrolling the streets of Argentina´s third largest city which is also an important manufacturing pole. Television film showed mostly youngsters breaking into supermarkets and robbing food, drinks and electronics, while the stores were defenseless. Women could also be seen.
ZAGREB, CROATIA – A majority of Croatians voted in a referendum Sunday to ban gay marriages in what is a major victory for the Catholic Church-backed conservatives in the European Union´s newest nation. The state electoral commission, citing initial results, said 65 percent of those who voted answered "yes" to the referendum question: "Do you agree that marriage is matrimony between a man and a woman?" About 34 percent voted against. The result meant that Croatia´s constitution will be amended to ban same-sex marriage. The vote has deeply divided Croatia. Liberal groups have said the referendum´s question infringes on basic human rights. The
KIEV, Ukraine — Enraged by a violent crackdown by security forces, Ukrainians took to the streets with new, revolutionary urgency on Sunday, with hundreds of thousands of protesters demanding the resignation of President Viktor F. Yanukovich and a realignment of the country away from Russia toward Europe. “I want the authorities to know that this is not a protest; this is a revolution!” Yuri V. Lutsenko, a former interior minister and an organizer of the Orange Revolution nine years ago, told a vast crowd here in Independence Square that many observers said outstripped even the biggest gatherings in 2004.
No end to Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro oral bloopers. In campaign for the municipal elections of 8 December and in the midst of an economic war on big business of which it accuses of promoting inflation and destabilizing his government, a self confession or “sincericide” (a blend of sincerity and suicide) became the delight of social networks ant twitters. In the midst of a fiery and passionate speech he said “capitalists speculate and steal as we do”. “I want to tell shop owners of this country, small and medium, these shop owners that you know so well from your neighborhood, they
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
