| The Federal Emergency Management Agency said on Friday that it will extend a program to provide temporary housing to New Yorkers displaced by Hurricane Sandy for an additional month. The extension will allow applicants, whose homes were damaged by the devastating storm, to stay in hotels or motels until appropriate accommodations become available. ´We know that some survivors in hard-hit areas are facing critical challenges to getting back into their homes,´ Federal Coordinating Officer Michael F. I still say the delivery of assistance is worse than it was for Katrina, at least partly due to Bloomberg refusing the offer of National Guard troops to assist with, for instance, water and MREs.

He acts all mayoral now, but he was shamed into giving them hotel rooms--he was prepared to kick them out for marathon runners till someone talked sense into him.

Will these displaced people be sharing rooms along with the Red Cross? And, where exactly is the money coming from for this relief and for how long? Those of US in Texas know that it can seem endless when people, especially in this bad economy want to scam the government.

Instead of holding a give away with 100´s of trailers last month, FEMA could have done what they did in La.; Place them on the lots where folks are rebuilding, as well as create temp trailer parks..
After 911, you´d think they´d know how to clean up a disaster & recover... Oh yeah... that was Gulliani.

A 91-year-old WWII veteran fighting to prevent his daughter from evicting him from his Ohio home has raised more than $138,000 from online donors to buy back his home, easily surpassing his goal. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
