| Camden — The city set a grim record today, with its 59th homicide of the year. The latest victim was shot dead on Independence Road in the city’s Fairview section around 11:30 a.m, according to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office. Additional details were not immediately available, but radio dispatches said police were seeking a masked man. The previous high mark for homicides was 58, set in 1995.(Snip) Law enforcement officials have attributed the surge in violence in part to massive layoffs that nearly halved staffing levels at the city’s police department in early 2011. I am not sure if fewer cops has that much to do with Camden´s murder rate. More likely because a certain group is getting more and more violent by the day.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men.
