Proponents of Obamacare are making one argument that some conservatives may find appealing — namely that it is much better, from a states’ rights point of view, to set up state-based exchanges than to let the feds come in and do it themselves. This argument is absolutely wrong. Allowing your states to be deputized as instruments of federal policy is just as bad as bowing to federal commandeering of state agencies, which is unconstitutional. Let’s begin with the principle that the federal government is not allowed to command states or their officials to do anything. That was settled in
Wake up folks... Sebilius has spent the last 3 years renovating Planned Parenthood abortion clinics into "HealthCare Centers". She transferred $2-3 B to middlemen, to hold the funds as she sets them up.
You cannot partner with Washington. That is not the way it works. It is only the way the feds will talk to get your panties off.
Besides, if ObamaCare and exchanges will be so great then let the federal government have all the glory. They can contract the operation of the exchanges to the Post Office which has facilities everywhere. That should allow a fast and effective start at minimum cost.
And having only one master, Washington, will simplify everything for patients, medical professionals, insurance companies, and suppliers of everything used in medicine.
No need for the complexity of a state agent in the mix.
A resistance needs to be organized by all states willing to stand up for states rights and defy Federal dictates. All real Americans only have the House between us and Obama´s oppression. United we stand, divided we fall.
There was a drafting error in the thousands of pages of the law which I am sure they wish they had back. #7 has it right. The feds now have to scare and stampede the states into setting up exchanges. States should just say NO. Saying NO to Obama is always the right thing to do!
Obama will find a way to get every state to cave on this. His "more than one way to skin a cat" rule applies to everything. Notice how he just cut Ohio´s food stamps. Why Ohio only? He could use similar tactics with federal money across all programs to get you to buckle.
It´s a two-fer for Obama because he´ll organize thugs to make villains out of republican governors.
Maybe I´ve missed something along the way but I haven´t seen Obama play by the rules on anything. He can´t get to single payer unless he co-opts all the states into federal hooks on exchanges first.
Feds might not be able to do it in a large number of states without asking Congress for more money or for amendments to the law.
This is really what ticks me off. This piece of tyrannical garbage was passed under "Budget Reconciliation" which means it doesn´t add a penny to the deficit and in a government that hasn´t passed a budget in 3 years! Oh, but the GAO testified under oath that it would save us money. So now what do we have? A law passed under Legislative trickery that doesn´t meet the standard. In any normal situation, it would be considered null and void on its face, but not with our idiotic Congress. It´s also evil that it exempts members of Congress and their staffs. Pure, un-American, evil.
If Texas Gov. Rick Perry doesn´t fight this thing all the way to its death, it will be the end of his political career... which might be over anyway.
Please, please, please. Stop referring to this national travesty as "Obamacare". President Obama is NOT running again. This needs to be referred to as "Democrat Care that is forced upon you without a single Republican vote". This albatross needs to be hung around the Democratic Party and not Obama when it is fully implemented. People will begin to lose their livelihood because of this and need to place their anger at the right people, the Democratic Party. I will continue to post this. Please pass it on, we ALL must start doing this now.
A ban on healthcare exchanges was on the ballot here in Missouri and was passed in every county, even the three, yes only three, that went for Zero: Jackson (KC), Boone (Columbia) and STL county and city. It could be that some weren´t clear on just what they were voting for, but we´ll take it; that is until some judge decides to overrule the will of the people.
Tea party groups and fiscal conservatives wasted no time Wednesday in savaging a bipartisan budget agreement negotiated between House Republicans and Senate Democrats, drawing an unusually angry response from House Speaker John A. Boehner, Ohio Republican. All sides were rating the winners and losers in the deal struck a day earlier between House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, and Senate Budget Committee Chairwoman Patty Murray, Washington Democrat. The modest deficit-cutting deal had some sweeteners for defense contractors and oil drillers, while air travelers, federal workers and some corporate executives would take a hit.
The White House blasted Republicans on Wednesday for criticizing President Obama’s decision to shake hands with Cuban leader Raul Castro. “There used to be a pretty important principle, that originated in the Republican Party, I believe, that partisan politics should stop at the water’s edge,” said White House deputy press secretary Joshua Earnest. “It’s unfortunate that we did see a number of Republicans yesterday who criticized the president for a handshake.” Mr. Obama shook hands with Mr. Castro on stage in South Africa at the memorial service for Nelson Mandela on Tuesday. The U.S. does not have diplomatic relations with
FAIRPORT HARBOR, Ohio — It doesn’t take long to realize that Jim Majoros is passionate about his job, as he ponders the hue of a new hunting rifle he’s working on. “I’m going to call it ‘Persephone,’ ” he said, referring to the Greek goddess. “It’s going to be light green in color, you know, more soft, but for women who want to hunt.” Business is brisk for gunsmiths such as Majoros, who repairs and customizes firearms in this small Lake Erie beach town east of Cleveland. This year, more than 82,000 new concealed-carry weapons licenses were issued in Ohio
House Republicans appeared Wednesday to be rallying around an $85 billion deal to avert another government shutdown, brushing off complaints from their right wing that the effort would trade immediate spending cuts for less-certain long-term savings. After conducting a series of closed-door briefings and polling members during a late-afternoon vote, GOP leadership aides confidently predicted that the deal struck between House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray (D-Wash.) would sail through the House when it comes to a vote Thursday. The moment seemed to mark a potentially significant shift by House Republicans away
A year that began with President Barack Obama riding high after his re-election victory and inauguration ends with him in the biggest hole of his presidency. A new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds the president with more Americans disapproving of his job performance than ever before; with half saying they’re either disappointed or dissatisfied with his presidency; and with 54% believing he’s facing a long-term setback. Perhaps more significantly, Obama has seen a drop in key presidential attributes, such as being honest and straightforward, being able to handle a crisis and being able to achieve his goals. “These are
The federal health-care law is becoming a heavier political burden for President Barack Obama and his party, despite increased confidence in the economy and the public´s own generally upbeat sense of well-being, a new Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll suggests. Disapproval of Mr. Obama´s job performance hit an all-time high in the poll, at 54%, amid the flawed rollout of the health law. Half of those polled now consider the law a bad idea, also a record high. The survey of 1,000 adults conducted between Dec. 4 and Dec. 8 found a sharp erosion since January in many of the
House and Senate negotiators announced Tuesday evening a $1.012 trillion two-year budget deal to replace some of the automatic spending sequester budget cuts and avert another government shutdown in January. Rep. Paul Ryan, Wisconsin Republican, said the two-year plan is a win for Republicans since it reduces the deficit by $23 billion without raising taxes or sacrificing core conservative values. “As a conservative, I think this is a step in the right direction. What am I getting out of this? I’m getting more deficit reduction. So the deficit will go down more by passing this than if we did nothing,”
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
Looks like this president can’t get away with flirting in front of his wife… It appears that first lady Michelle Obama was none too pleased with the way that President Barack Obama was acting toward Denmark Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt during a ceremony honoring Nelson Mandela, and before too long, they switched seats. This lmao! Michelle Obama vs Prime Minister of Denmark at Mandela´s ceremony. pic.twitter.com/Rq4uF9fTaZ — Stun (@TheBlogPirate) December 10, 2013
