For Losing Republicans, Moderation
Not The Way Forward

Investor's Business Daily, by Charles Krauthammer

Original Article

Posted By:earlybird, 11/8/2012 10:59:51 PM

They lose and immediately the chorus begins. Republicans must change or die. A rump party of white America, it must adapt to evolving demographics or forever be the minority. The only part of this that is even partially true regards Hispanics. They should be a natural Republican constituency: striving immigrant community, religious, Catholic, family-oriented and socially conservative (on abortion, for example).(Snip)For the party in general, however, the problem is hardly structural. It requires but a single policy change: Border fence plus amnesty. Yes, amnesty. Use the word.

I think Charles is right--not on amnesty necessarily, but on immigration reform. We need to do it and get it out of the way so it won't be an issue in the next election. The Republicans can get a significant share of the Hispanic vote. Bush did it. Krauthammer is right that the Republican have a strong bench of potential candidates, Rubio, Ryan and others.. Who do the Democrats have? Hillary? Biden?(!) They are yesterday's news. Neutralize the immigration issue, get a good talking point on abortion and run on the economy, which is not going to improve unless Obama changes his ways.

The majority wants enforcement first. Not actual enforcement, with families being broken up on TV...abstract enforcement, where there are no messy details and images.

We need to accept and understand the difference. In this context, Charles makes a lot of sense.

Bendover Boehner has already expressed his willingness to grab his ankles before the end of the year. If the GOP had any guts someone in next year`s congress would challenge his speakership. As long as those old rino white guys are in charge it bad news for our freedoms.

Amnesty, huh? Every conservative who calls for amnesty in any shape or form needs to take a good long look in the mirror. I understand a lot of this is the usual post-election defeat blues, but integrity and character are defined by how we react to exactly this sort of situation. A lot of you are failing the test.

As conservatives, we have all kinds of principles and beliefs, but what is the most important thing, the one that pisses us off more than everything else to see liberals discard? In my opinion, that would be the rule of law. We demand adherence to the Constitution, to constitutionally-valid laws, and to the procedures for creating those laws. So why the hell am I listening to supposed conservatives, not just here, but all over the web, call for us to discard sacred laws governing entrance to our nation and what is required to legally reside here?

Does this loss, one that was a result of fraud on our opponent's part, failures on our own part (ORCA, anyone?), and random chance (like it or not, Sandy played a huge role) really hurt that much? Is this all it takes to abandon the rule of law we supposedly believe in? Is conservatism so fragile, so weak-willed that it will sell its soul for the same political advantage of identity politics our opponents use? Are we that desperate to pander to any one group in an increasingly balkanized nation that we are going to simply accept the playing field the liberals give us and choose only between defeat or selling out the core of what we stand for? We should be looking for ways to change the game, and instead we are talking about how best to give up the fight, give up our integrity, and walk into a future where politics truly is a soulless power struggle where every option is as bad as the next.

Even Hannity is now talking "path to citizenship". Hispanics voted immigration over Catholicism. In 10 years, we won't recognize this country at all. We'll be the United States of Muslims/Mexicans.

Costa Rica is looking pretty good to me. I can retire as a beach bum with a lot of other former Americans.

"Never underestimate the power of human stupidity" - Robert Heinlein

Let us at least congratulate the public schools, academia and, above all, the MSM, for successfully producing multiple generations of citizens breathtakingly stupid enough to vote - twice! - for a fraud like Barack Obama. Their undertaking, to replace intelligence and common sense in the citizenry with the empty mind rot of political correctness, was daunting - but they have succeeded. Succeeded beyond anyone's wildest hopes, or fears.

"Moderation" can now only mean: dumbing down to their level. Count me out.

If Hispanics had the same values as Republicans, they would vote Republican. I am tired of hearing how they are a natural fit for Republicans because of their values. How do you support border jumping over partial birth abortion. I am leaving the Republican party because they are caving to immigration and Obama care.

Immigration reform will turn FL, AZ, CO, NV permanently Blue. At that point future elections won't matter much. Questions?
I'd rather they cave on taxes. Lets soak the rich and see how bad the economy can get before the 2014 elections. This is the only way to save the country. Immigration reform will be the final nail in the coffin. Take a look at how Latin American countries are governed. Obama is probably not communist enough for them.

The reason that the liberal Democrats are pushing "a path to citizenship" amnesty for 12-20 million illegal aliens is so that they can eventually grant the legalized aliens duel nationality status with US voting rights.

The highly partisan liberal Democrats would not be doing that if they ever thought that this potential new foreign born ethnic voter bloc would ever have an epiphany and vote for conservative Republicans in any numbers worth talking about. By going along with such a liberal Democrat inspired amnesty the Republicans would be committing long-term political suicide by handing the liberal Democrats millions of new voters.

The only sort of legalization program that the Republicans should consider is one where whatever illegal aliens are deemed qualified are granted a temporary immigration status similar to a "guest worker" status with an indefinite work permit and the ability to come and go from the USA. Most working illegal aliens would be satisfied with that, but the liberal Democrats and their allies the Hispanic activists would not.

With such a temporary status, qualified illegal aliens would be granted a "safe harbor" here and until, if they wished, to apply for permanent residence by meeting the same requirements for an immigrant visa that legal immigrants must do now. That is only fair.

Since there is no indication that the liberal Democrats intend to stop obstructing, opposing, and sabotaging all effective immigration law enforcement measures there is little doubt that whatever level of amnesty is agreed to, that it will encourage more mass uncontrolled illegal immigration.

The concept of amnesty is simple: You knowingly, wilfully broke our laws, but we won't punish you. Sounds like a winner (?). That should attract a lot of engineers and Rhodes Scholars.

OK, can we please stop pretending biofuel made from corn is helping the planet and the environment? With huge subsidies for ethanol in gasoline, with all States now selling gasoline having some ethanol blend, and a general misconception that these biofuels are green, corn ethanol has taken on a $30 billion/yr life of its own. The United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change released two of its Working Group reports at the end of last month (WGI and WGIII), and their short discussion of biofuels has ignited a fierce debate as to whether they’re of any environmental benefit at all.

It´s all happening at the zoo today, Easter Sunday in Sydney, where Prince George met a cute little critter named for him and the world got to see the royal baby for a second official appearance. After Easter services at the Anglican cathedral in Sydney in the morning, Prince William and Duchess Kate changed clothes, collected George and headed for the Taronga Zoo, Sydney´s harbor-side menagerie of Australia´s wonderfully quirky wildlife. It was another beautiful sunny day and thousands had been waiting to see them for hours before the zoo opened. Eventually there were so many people, the zoo closed to further

NEW YORK - Last week´s Heartbleed Internet bug revealed a startling fact. The software protecting banks, email, social media and government is maintained by only a few people. They´re all volunteers. And only one does it as a full-time job. Their labor of love is OpenSSL, a free program that secures a lot of online communication. JACKSON, Wyo. – A slow-motion disaster continued unfolding in the Wyoming resort town of Jackson on Saturday, as a creeping landslide that split a hillside home threatened to swallow up more houses and businesses. The ground beneath the 100-foot hillside had been slowly giving way for almost two weeks before the downward movement accelerated in recent days. With rocks and dirt tumbling down, officials suspended efforts to shore up the slope and said they were uncertain what else could be done. "When is it going to go? How long is it going to last? That was quite a victory dance President Obama did Thursday while claiming Obamacare is “working” because eight million people have now supposedly signed up for the health care program. He even indulged in some less-than-subtle mockery of Republicans - and by extension the majority of Americans who have disapproved of Obamacare since before it became law. If the Rev. John DeBonville could preach a sermon to lift the souls of churchgoers across America, his message would be simple: Stop dressing so tacky for church. DeBonville has heard about the “come as you are” approach to dressing down for Sunday service, but he says the Sabbath is getting too sloppy. When he scans the pews of churches, DeBonville sees rows of people dressed in their Sunday worst. They saunter into church in baggy shorts, flip-flop sandals, tennis shoes and grubby T-shirts. Some even slide into the pews carrying coffee in plastic foam containers as if they’re going to Starbucks. “It’s like
