A dismembered body found in a park in a Denver suburb has been confirmed as that of missing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway - while her killer remains at large. Authorities had initially been unable to confirm the identity of the body, which was found on Wednesday seven miles from where she vanished on October 5, as it was not 'intact', they said. They have now used DNA to identify the body as hers. 'Our focus has changed from the search for Jessica to a mission of justice for Jessica,' Westminster Police Chief Lee Birk said on Friday.
Comments: Here in Colorado, we've been following this case all week, hoping against hope that Jessica would be found. She's safe with Jesus now. Prayers for her family.
Such evil is hard to fathom. Her family and friends not only have to deal with her murder but they must also deal with the fact that she was dismembered. Surely there is a place in hell for the monster that killed this little girl. Catch him and send him there as quickly as possible.
Is it possible wild animals dismembered her after death?......My heart breaks for this little girl (she reminds me of my granddaughter)....and I don't want to think the murderer dismembered her ......it's too vile and evil.-----I lived in that area for a while, and there's lots of open spaces, open land and wildlife.-----this tragedy is really bothering me, such a sweet little girl and no one cared to take her to the bus stop or school.
It's tragic. I have a daughter the same age, and she walks a block to the bus stop by herself. Of course I worry -- but we have to let our children grow up and make their way into the world, in stages. It does no good to cripple them with fear from news stories like this one.
#4... call me overprotective, but I always watched my children until the school bus picked them up....I stayed vigilant......Soon after my son was born, that little boy, Adam Walsh, was abducted from Sears in Florida & beheaded-....this left a lasting impression & I always tracked when my children left home & were due to arrive...many times I drove them to the bus stop.---There IS evil in this world.
It is difficult to come to terms with such evil walking around our streets. I just cannot comprehend it; words are truly inadequate. My prayers for Jessica's heartbroken parents and extended family. I pray they will be comforted.
I'm a big fan of not being a helicopter parent, as they say, but I just wouldn't let my kid walk anywhere by herself at that age. I know most crime on kids is perpetrated by people who know them, but violence by strangers does occur, and as my nephews are sick of hearing me say, IT ONLY TAKES ONE TIME. My 16yo nephew is a third-degree black belt in karate, and it's only been in the last couple of years that I stopped standing sort of in the doorway of the mens room at the movie theatre waiting on him to come out.
This case has made me sick. God will deal with the monster who did this, whether he is dealt with here on this earth or not.
Yes, #6, it is probable that animals disturbed her body. This was a dry summer and the bears, mountain lions and foxes have been very hungry this year. Although horrible on any level, it is more comforting to think an animal acted naturally than an unspeakable event by a human.
Hey Mrs. Obama, how can our kids get any exercise, when they have to be afraid to play in their own yards at home?
Sure Moms used to be able to keep extra watch over their children, but that was before they had to go to work to help pay the family's bills.
Families and children are thwarted at every turn!
Poor little Jessica had to be so traumatized in her last moments of life, and all she was doing was walking to school. It is so depressing to hear how our children are being mistreated almost every day.
Is CO now one of those states who believes being a criminal isn't their fault and therefore they're treated lightly in criminal proceedings? As far as I'm concerned, if the cops ever catch this pervert and he gets tried and convicted, the only sentence should be death and dismemberment.
Katie Couric is set to quit her troubled chat show little more than a year after its launch on ABC, MailOnline can reveal. The 56-year-old news veteran had wanted to see out her vision for the series - but will announce a new interview show with Yahoo in the next few days. And despite the fact her eponymous show, Katie, enjoyed a five-week ratings high last month, a source confirmed her show is poised to end on ABC at the end of its second season. Today, a source confirmed Katie was in ´ongoing negotiations with Yahoo adding: ´There´s a very
DENVER - Amendment 66, the K-12 education funding measure, has failed in Colorado. Even in Democratic strongholds of Boulder and Denver counties, the measure was failing or barely even. Amendment 66 constitutionally and statutorily would alter Colorado law to change how the state funds education. Firstly, it raises the state individual income tax rate from 4.63 percent to 5 percent on the first $75,000 of taxable income. That is equivalent to $472.5 if you earn exactly $75,000 in taxable income per year. If you earn more, any income beyond the $75,000 is taxed at a rate of 5.9 percent.
Thousands of Californians are discovering what Obamacare will cost them — and many don´t like what they see. These middle-class consumers are staring at hefty increases on their insurance bills as the overhaul remakes the healthcare market. Their rates are rising in large part to help offset the higher costs of covering sicker, poorer people who have been shut out of the system for years. Although recent criticism of the healthcare law has focused on website glitches and early enrollment snags, experts say sharp price increases for individual policies have the greatest potential to erode public support for President Obama´s
Kelly Ayotte is no stranger to the difficult balancing act of politics. In the 2010 New Hampshire Senate primary, the Republican state attorney general trumpeted an endorsement from Sarah Palin to help her fend off a tough GOP challenger, who had attempted to outflank her on the right. Then Ayotte tracked closely enough to the center to blow out her Democratic opponent, U.S. Rep. Paul Hodes, by 23 percentage points in the general election. (In the process, she won all 10 of the state’s counties.) Once she arrived in Washington, it wasn’t long before Ayotte began being mentioned as a
Immigration overhaul legislation has been dormant in the House for months, but a few Republicans are working behind the scenes to advance it at a time the Capitol is immersed in a partisan brawl over government spending and President Barack Obama´s health care law. The chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Bob Goodlatte, has been discussing possible legal status for the estimated 11 million immigrants living in the U.S. illegally. He´s also been working with House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, a fellow Virginia Republican, on a bill offering citizenship to immigrants brought illegally
The Democratic Party of Sacramento County, California scrambled on Friday to deal with fallout from a series of tweets its communications chair sent Friday, in which he wished the children of a speechwriter in the office of Sen. Ted Cruz would endure a painful death. By day´s end Allan Brauer was apologizing, but not before galvanizing conservative Republic tweeters against him in a virtual online bloodbath and losing his political position over what the party called ´appalling and inexcusable´ comments.
Carl Guardino, head of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, came away from a meeting with House GOP whip Kevin McCarthy of Bakersfield a few moments ago on Friday saying he “would bet on” comprehensive immigration reform getting to passage this year. “Kevin is a long-time personal friend,” Guardino said of McCarthy. “We just met one-on-one and I firmly believe, without breaking confidences, that we are going to see deliberative and thoughtful action in the House when they reconvene in September and October.” “I would bet on it,” he added.
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
More young men in California rise in pitch at the end of their sentences when talking, new research shows. This process is known as "uptalk" or "valleygirl speak" and has in the past been associated with young females, typically from California or Australia. But now a team says that this way of speaking is becoming more frequent among men.The findings were presented at the Meeting of the Acoustical Society of America in California. "We found use of uptalk in all of our speakers, despite their diverse backgrounds in socioeconomic status, ethnicity, bilingualism and gender," said Amanda Ritchart, a linguist at the University of
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
