Incumbent Debate Curse:
Barack Obama Falls to Mitt Romney

National Journal, by Ron Fournier

Original Article

Correction: The latest version of this story incorrectly reported the year of the Bush-Kerry race. It was 2004. Call it the curse of incumbency. Like many of his predecessors, President Obama fell victim Wednesday night to high expectations, a short fuse, and a hungry challenger. If Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney didn’t win the first of three presidential debates outright, he more than covered the spread. He was personable, funny, and relentlessly on the attack against a heavily favored Obama. The president looked peeved and flat as he carried a conversation, for the first time in four

Right. Got it. Not Obama's fault, but ours, 'cause our expectations were "too high."

Look, I have zero experience with pot [none of my own, of course, but I mean, none with anybody around me], but was Barry showing some effects of past, recent, whatever use? I put nothing past this [pre-deleted], or his associates, either.

Obama failed to even meet my extremely low expectations. I expected the typical democrat tact of accuse, attack, lie, repeat. I've never witnessed a more rambling debater in my life. Half the time I was asking, "what is he talking about?"

I expected Romney to "win" on policy and economics but be flayed by the press for style. Romney exceeded my expectations.

Simply....... Obama was not prepared. He does not know the facts or how an economy works. It was obvious that he was regurgitating his campaign speech and campaign talking points. Obama is NOT a debater. Obama is not a good speaker and frankly, he's not that bright. Obama blew this all on his own.

Why is the National Journal using AP Washington Bureau Chief Ron Fournier for these articles? They reek. This was the real 0bama. The one with the hidden grades except for the C average at Columbia. He's not as smart as the Democrats have been pretending and it's painfully obvious.

The debate just goes to show the phony Øbama is worthless without his teleprompter. That is, when he needs to actually answer questions with clear facts, the phony liar just stands there and stammers. He has never so much as run a lemonade stand in his life and he expects to fool the American people into thinking he has better ideas on the economy than Mitt Romney? This great liar Øbama is being exposed for being the phony crook he tries to keep hidden from the public.

FTA: ". . . challengers have more time to prepare than do busy presidents. Romney was ready."

Oh, please. Obama was supposed to be debate prepping in Las Vegas, but he kept taking breaks to go check out Hoover Dam or to press the flesh. Michelle Obama was right: Stinky is lazy.

A shy teenager with no prior violent tendencies who went on a random, stabbing rampage at his high school on Wednesday told his arresting officers that he ´wanted to die´. Alex Hribal, 16, stalked through Franklin Regional High School in Murrysville near Pittsburgh early on Wednesday morning, stabbing victims in the torso and slashing their arms and faces before being tackled by assistant principal Sam King. The attacker was described by students as a small, quiet boy who largely kept to himself but was not an outcast and did not appear to have been bullied. There were no indications before the attack

U.S. childhood obesity rates have increased over the past 14 years, according to a study published on Monday, casting doubt on a recent analysis by government health researchers that found a sharp drop in preschool obesity rates over the past decade. The good news, announced in February by researchers at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), received widespread media coverage and prompted first lady Michelle Obama to say she was "thrilled at the progress we´ve made over the last few years in obesity rates among our youngest Americans. The new study, published online in the medical journal JAMA

Most religious movies feel as if they’re made by a church committee, but every now and then a wild-eyed prophet wanders in and rattles the theater with brimstone. Regardless of your feelings about either movie, Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” qualifies and so does Martin Scorsese’s “The Last Temptation of Christ.” Now director Darren Aronofsky (“Black Swan,” “The Wrestler”) has ascended to the mountaintop and returned with the strangest, most visionary cinematic parable yet. “Noah” is equal parts ridiculous and magnificent, a showman’s folly and a madman’s epic. It elaborates on the Book of Genesis’s slender story of Noah

El Chapo, Most-Wanted Drug
Lord, Is Captured in Mexico

Mexico City — Just before 7 a.m. on Saturday, dozens of soldiers and police officers descended on a condominium tower in Mazatlán, Mexico, a beach resort known as much as a hangout for drug traffickers as for its seafood and surf. The forces were following yet another tip about the whereabouts of one of the world’s most wanted drug kingpins, Joaquín Guzmán Loera — known as El Chapo, which means “Shorty” — who had eluded such raids for 13 years since escaping from prison, by many accounts in a laundry cart. With an army of guards and lethally enforced loyalty, he reigned over a worldwide, multibillion-dollar drug empire

Former Rep. Mel Reynolds is expected to be freed and deported from Zimbabwe as early as Tuesday after pornography charges were dropped Friday and he pleaded guilty to a visa violation. Reynolds´ lawyer, Arthur Gurira, said his client remained in jail in the southern African country but could be released Tuesday or Wednesday after immigration authorities complete deportation paperwork. “The papers are being processed,” Gurira said. “Once that´s done, he´ll be free.” Asked if Reynolds would be bound for Chicago, the lawyer said: “I wouldn´t know.”

SOCHI, Russia — The official mascots for the Winter Olympics are a polar bear, a hare and a leopard. But walk around the complexes that will stage the Games here, with the opening ceremony Friday, and what seem more apt are a hand drill, a backhoe and a shovel. Much of Sochi is a work in progress, and parts of it look at least a dozen all-nighters away from completion. There are unfinished hotels, half-finished stores and a mall where the only shop that is open and thriving is a Cinnabon. Wander the premises over the course of a day

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

It’s the stuff of Westerns: a showdown on the desert plains, the big bad government against an underdog farmer. Though the story has only grabbed national headlines in the past several days, rancher Cliven Bundy has illegally grazed cattle on the Nevada land surrounding his farm for over 20 years. He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
