Congressman challenges USDA to
follow own school lunch restrictions

Kansas Republican Tim Huelskamp issued a challenge to the U.S. Department of Agriculture on Tuesday: Adopt the same calorie restrictions and menu standards in the department’s cafeterias as the USDA now requires in the nation’s public schools. While students pick at their vegetables, USDA’s cafeteria menus are loaded with unhealthy options for government employees — from pesto chicken pizza to BLTs with cheddar cheese, Cuban pork paninis to Philly steak subs, cheeseburgers to French toast. Comments:
Make sure you READ this. The USDA is now encouraging parents to use these starvation menus they are forcing on schools at home. The Food Nazis are here.

Bravo to the Congressman. Now let's see Michelle Obama and the kids live by those dietary rules.

Remember Paula Deen's comment about Michelle? That she couldn't stop stuffing herself with Paula's fattening food?

You would not believe how much food is being thrown away! Students are not allowed to refuse anything, even stuff they know they will not eat, so it just gets tossed.

Where are the environmentalists???? You know the carbon footprint of food that is not eaten? What a horrible habit to have our children get into!

I think the Sidwell Friends School should implement the same menu. Sasha and Malia should learn to eat correctly, too.

The USDA should make all the frozen dinners sold at the super markets. A nutritious meal of two veggies and two ounces of meat.

The new dinners would be yummy and delicious. And the industry would be more efficient too, only one brand would be needed, and one standard box, no advertising.

Then stop the sale of fresh meat. Consumers might eat the wrong kinds or too much.

A standard production for other food types can gradually follow.

e.g. look at all the flavors and brands of pop tarts offered. One would suffice.

Why is the multi-billion dollar Food Stamp program still buying boatloads of junk food for the 47% if taxpayers' kids can't even eat a full meal?

Since when are limousine liberals bound by the rules they impose on everybody else. This isn't even about food but kids looking at the government as their substitute parent. This is massive brainwashing for when they become voting age.

Telling the public what they can and cannot eat is called incremental socialism or communism. Only the elites will be left to eat what they want - just like the Politoboro.

At my sisters school unopened string cheese, completely sealed in plastic, must be thrown away if the kids don't eat it . Also unopened milk. Tons of this and other food is thrown away every day. The staff is starting to retrieve some of the unopened stuff for themselves.

My question is, "How did this law pass in a Republican controlled House?" Why are Republican congressmen getting all upset when it could not become law unless they passed it and sent it to the Democrat Senate. Huh?????

MA Senate: Elizabeth

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

CNN’s Peter Hamby reported that Mitt Romney‘s internal polling showed President Obama leading in Ohio by five percentage points.Per Hamby’s post: The number represented a sharp final bump for Obama in Ohio, a race that had essentially been a tied race through much of the previous week, according to the campaign’s daily tracking. The polling, which also showed a tight race in Pennsylvania, explains why Romney officials decided to send their candidate on last-minute Election Day visits to Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. Republican operatives in Virginia, though, predicted a razor-thin victory for their candidate in the state.

Washington - Early returns on Tuesday in what is anticipated to be a dead even presidential election contained no surprises, as CNN projected President Barack Obama will win his home state of Illinois and eight other races while Republican challenger Mitt Romney will win nine states. All races called so far went as expected after the roller-coaster ride of an election campaign that was buffeted by a superstorm and missteps on both sides. Obama and Romney ran dead even in final polls that hinted at a result rivaling some of the closest presidential elections in history, reflecting the deep political

A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. Twenty-six percent named Sandy as an “important” factor, and 15 percent said it was the “most important” factor in their decision.

Mitt Romney is leading among independents in both Ohio and Virginia, early exit polls show. In Ohio, the former Massachusetts governor takes 56 percent of self-identified independents, compared with 40 percent for President Barack Obama. That’s a huge decrease for Obama from 2008, when the exit polls found him winning independents in Ohio by 12 points, 52 percent to 44 percent for John McCain. The numbers are similar but slightly tighter in Virginia: Romney takes 53 percent of independents there, according to ABC News exit polls, a 12-point lead over Obama. In 2008, Obama won independents in the state by

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
