I am deeply disturbed by the author's implication that "conservative" ideology is somehow sympathetic toward slavery. That couldn't be further from the truth. But that is the problem when you are dealing with labels. You see, most of today's conservatives are very liberal (in the classic sense of the word) in many respects. Some are not. But those who find themselves under the label "liberal" these days are anything BUT liberal (in the classic sense of the word). Labels enable people to manipulate perception. This is something the radical leftists have been very good at doing. Perhaps what we need is a new way of describing ideology and beliefs in order to get away from the misconceptions and propagandist lies that are so easy to perpetuate these days.
