| Brussels - The retreat of western forces from Afghanistan could come sooner than expected, the head of Nato has said as he conceded that the recent Taliban strategy of "green on blue" killings had been successful in sapping morale. In an interview with the Guardian Nato's secretary-general, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, responded to pressure for a faster withdrawal from Afghanistan by stating that the options were being studied and should be clear within three months. I note the Guardian says ''retreat.'' What exactly did the general and NATO say? The revenge and takeover attacks when NATO is thin in Afghanistan and the dissolution of the Afghan military are going to turn the place into the lowest sewer of Hell. That's about one level down from where it is now.

Obama will wait until after the US election and then will order the big bug out from Afghanistan. There is no way that his strategy is a winner in a place like Afghanistan, where Obama essentially told the enemy that the war was going to end on a date certain that he picked out of the air.
As when UK and US troop strength there goes down, it will be harder to provide them with effective force protection and it will continue to get easier for the Afghans to pick them off. You can't win when you set in motion a very weak strategy that allows the enemy to simply murder your troops. But then again winning the war there was never Obama's objective, he just wants to be able to say that he stopped another Bush war.

The withdrawal may become disaster with our diminishing, steadily weakening, forces attacked more and more simply because they can be.
However we should remember the Taliban leadership has other problems and other concerns too. They may choose a course other than total attack, after all we will soon be gone anyway.
We can't be sure how bad it will be. It won't be good, that is certain.

It is a screaming tragedy that the pols in charge, on whose hands is the blood of our troops, don't know and observe the following: all-out to win, or all out now.
Those are the only two rational choices, generally.
#3: Agreed. If I may add this -- there may well be some high-profile [even if generally meaningless] attacks near the end, so they can say, "See? We routed 'em." Appearances [read: fairy tales] are treated like reality in the Muslim world.

The war in Afghanistan is probably the most disgraceful component of Obama's administration but gets little to no coverage.There's a reason there's been a spike in military suicides which the media has no interest into digging into.
Obama figures he inherited this war so the sooner it's over with the better.
Islamists all over the world smell blood int he water because of Obama's weakness and policies of apologies and appeasement.
The people in NATO countries can see the foolishness with how this war is being fought and of course they want out sooner.
The main cog in the wheel for getting out was to train Afghan nationals to take over security and that's blown up in Obama's face. The anti-war crowd in this country is enjoying every minute of this debacle.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?"
