Obama uses Down
syndrome to hit Romney

In its latest effort to slap Mitt Romney's "47 percent" comment, the Obama campaign on Monday tapped a young woman with Down syndrome to pull at the heartstrings of undecided voters. The Obama-Biden campaign's web page featured a "letter of the week" from a 25-year-old woman who wrote that "I am one of the 47% of Americans who fall under Mitt Romney's definition of 'entitled' and 'unable to take responsibility for my life.' I have Down syndrome." The letter comes on the heel of the campaign's TV ad playing in battleground states that

A bit unrelated, but I was in Target this afternoon and I heard someone talking to another person; not loud or obnoxious. I turned into that aisle and there was a young lady with a big bendable feather type duster dusting the shelves filled with cans and asking her supervisor (who was nowhere to be seen) if she was doing it right, and commenting on how she was doing everything. It was sweet and charming and another lady obviously with the same idea as me had approached from the other end of the aisle and we both grinned at each other. The ''girl'' was doing a fine job and was so proud of how well she was doing it. Kudo's to Target, and I told them.

Safety nets are there for people who truly need them. No Republican I know of would cut them for people like this young lady. Would they cut programs that encourage generations of able-bodied people of normal intelligence to choose welfare over work? Yes - as they should.

Not to be insensive, but not all of that 47% are retarted enough to vote for Zippy.

P.S.,

An irony here is that Democrats prefer to push the notion that people like this young woman should never be born.

Was just going to post that. Unbelievable that an abortion supporter would use a Down Syndrome woman in an ad. If Obama had his way they either would not be born or would be left to die after birth. After all his supporters comments about Trig Palin both during the 2008 election and after, it takes some kind of gall to put out an ad of this type. I'd like to see a little background on the woman in the ad. Are we sure she has Down Syndrome?

This sounds so contrived! If, indeed, "Brittany" does exist, I'll bet someone wrote that letter for her.

If she and the letter are authentic, my apologies...and a high-five to her for all she's accomplished. However, it's sad that she's been brain-washed into thinking Mitt Romney would be as dispassionate as Obama tries to depict him.

She makes $4 and change per hour for 25 hours a week's work, and has paid over $500 in taxes so far this year. If that's accurate (she makes below minimum wage?) she will get a refund.

According to the IRS there are ~131 Million who pay taxes so that is the 53% who are carrying the 47%/ 116 Million that pay no taxes (wow); unbelievable...

Don't think one case of Downs Syndrome (not taxed ok ) is anything but a cheap shot to defend that 116 million who pay no taxes (just under half pay no taxes..unbelievable)

Americans like me who work our butts off and pay ~17% Federal of our income for taxes say Romney is right... got to be lots of dead wood in that 47%/116M pile; not to mention the $113 Billion/year it cost tax payers for ObozoX's illegals (study Federation for American Immigration Reform)

Romney should find the baby that nurse Jill Stanek discovered in a soiled-linens room at her hospital. The one she held and comforted. That baby must have a compelling story, too.

Or it would, if it hadn't been killed by what the law normally classifies as the crime of "depraved indifference." It died in Nurse Stanek's arms because of Obama's Illinois law making it a criminal act to give medical care to babies not murdered by the abortionist.

#9, perhaps she works in a "sheltered workshop" which is run by a charitable group employing the developmentally disabled.

But, using a Down syndrome person for a commercial? Obama is the guy who made jokes about the Special Olympics!

What I heard Mitt say on that recording was that the 47% that would vote for Obama could probably not be swung to Romney because so many were dependent on entitlements. When he said he was "not going to worry about them", I took it to mean that he would just have to accept that they were immovable. That's all.

Do I seem to have it right? I know Obama is trying to make it something it never was.

Then I suggest that the Rep. go to Chicago or Philly and visit the hood. I am sure they could find some real representatives of the people Romney was talking about. He was not talking about Down's sufferers and we all know it.

#14, IMO you have it perfectly right. obama and his fellow travelers in the so-called "msm" are putting the lie to anything that shows him in a bad light and it it takes a person with Down syndrome to tug at the hearts of the uninformed voter, who should know better, so be it. That's how demonrats think. It won't work.

I can guarantee that she didn't write the letter. I evaluate the capabilities of students and have tested several dozen with Down's Syndrome.

She didn't write that letter; it's beyond the capabilities of a person with Down's. She might have I'd like to write a letter, but the words are not hers.

National security should serve policy objectives. It should not be a victim of political correctness. Politics should be kept especially far away from the practice of intelligence. Today´s decision by the NYPD to close the unit that was mapping Muslim communities in New York is very likely a product of political pressure. It is a decision that will make the city targeted in the largest terrorist attack in modern history less safe. I have gone on record in the past—on Al Jazeera, of all places—to explain why the program was a good idea and crucial to preventing terrorist plots in the future. In

Michael R. Bloomberg, making his first major political investment since leaving office, plans to spend $50 million this year building a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence, an organization he hopes can eventually outmuscle the National Rifle Association. Mr. Bloomberg, the former mayor of New York, said gun control advocates need to learn from the N.R.A. and punish those politicians who fail to support their agenda — even Democrats whose positions otherwise align with his own. “They say, ‘We don’t care. We’re going to go after you,’ ” he said of the N.R.A.

Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Although the Civil Rights Act, the landmark legislation which just reached its 50th anniversary, made great strides in desegregating the economy, economic discrimination is still widespread, and anti-discrimination legislation alone can never rectify the economic damage inflicted upon blacks by slavery and our Jim Crow apartheid regime. The Civil Rights Act was a mild reform, all things considered, but one conservatives fought with vigor and one many conservatives are still bitter about to this day. When the Civil Rights Act passed in 1964, the primary purpose was to root out discrimination in public accommodations (like hotels and movie theaters)
