Cherry-picking intelligence
for political gain?

Washington Post, by Jennifer Rubin

Eli Lake, who has broken story after story on the Libya embassy attack, is out with another report. This one provides damning evidence that the Obama administration cherry-picked from initial intelligence to justify its “the video made them do it” cover story for what was very quickly known to be a coordinated al-Qaeda-related assault. He explains that in “so-called talking points written by the CIA and distributed to members of Congress and other government official” three days after the attacks a single strand of information was lifted out of the intelligence data to height

What is infuriating is the Dem claim that anyone who questions the WH account is "politicizing" the issue. The WH politicized this from the get-go.

Ø & hellary don/t cherry-pick the facts. They just pull this stuff right out of their backsides.

"Was the CIA pushing the “spontaneous” theory because of a complete security failure on the danger to U.S. diplomats in Libya?"

Here's a different question, Jen: Was the "spontaneous demonstration over a video" really a prepackaged narrative planned and launched by the Obama folks, just like the War on Women was? Hired rent-a-mobs, guards with no bullets so no one gets hurt, a lickspittle general phoning up an irrelvant anti-islamic minister and issuing a press release about it, a Newsweek cover ready to go, all leading up to and culminating with a UN speech by Obama declaring to whom the future belongs, and to whom it does not.

Two distinct and separate sequences of events now being deliberately blurred and muddled together: 1) a bit of political theater put on by the Obama political folks, and 2) Alquaeda rolling up CIA's operations in Libya. Neither has anything to do with the other, and to make the picture come clear on either, it is necessary to completely ignore the other one.

Did the administration choose the narrative to boost approval for its internet control policy that Janet Napolitano is formulating?

The murdered British soldier executed by two Islamist fanatics was tonight named as Lee Rigby. The 25-year-old ´cheeky and humorous´ serviceman - described as a ´loving father´ to his two-year-old son Jack - was identified as police guarded his home in Middleton, Greater Manchester. Drummer Rigby, a keen football fan who followed Manchester United FC, was just starting his Army career and had recently fought in Afghanistan with the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.

IRS emails: Who knew

New emails between Internal Revenue Service officials released Wednesday as part of congressional testimony give a better view of who knew of the screening of conservative tea party groups and the search terms being used, and when they knew it. The documents also show a bit of the process the IRS used in such situations, but do not answer the question at the heart of the controversy – who made the decision to search for such groups and why. The string of emails is from early June 2011, sparked by a request from Holly Paz,

Tensions Brew Inside White
House Over Counsel’s Role

WASHINGTON — As they watched President Obama lumber into controversy over mandating contraception coverage last winter, some White House staffers were banging their heads against the wall. The lawyers had done it again. Tensions between operatives and the lawyers hired to protect them from legal trouble are a constant in politics. But as President Obama’s beleaguered aides look for someone to blame in an escalating series of scandals, former political, communications, and policy officials complained to BuzzFeed that one culprit is a balance that has tilted too far toward the lawyer, allowing avoidable controversies to boil over.

Sal: Squeeze Weiner

With Anthony Weiner about to pop into the race for mayor, one of his Democratic rivals demanded yesterday that he pony up $350,000 for the cost of the election required to fill his hastily vacated congressional seat two years ago. Weiner resigned under pressure in June 2011 after it was disclosed he was tweeting lewd pictures of himself to women he’d met on the Internet. In the special election held that September to replace him, Republican Bob Turner pulled off a stunning upset victory over Democrat David Weprin. Taxpayers were stuck with the $350,000 election tab,

After a week of revelations about government spying on reporters and the Internal Revenue Service targeting conservatives, most voters feel “like the federal government has gotten out of control and is threatening the basic civil liberties of Americans.” At the same time, a new Fox News poll finds disapproval of President Obama’s job performance is above 50 percent for the first time in a year, his honesty rating is at a new low and half of voters already think he’s a lame-duck.

The New York Times editorial board has condemned the Obama administration for threatening press freedom in the wake of revelations that the Justice Dept. seized phone records belonging to Fox News reporter James Rosen. "With the decision to label a Fox News television reporter a possible ´co-conspirator´ in a criminal investigation of a news leak, the Obama administration has moved beyond protecting government secrets to threatening fundamental freedoms of the press to gather news," the board wrote in an editorial published on Wednesday. From the outset, Internal Revenue Service lawyers based in Washington, D.C., provided important guidance on the handling of tea-party groups’ applications for tax-exempt status, according to both IRS sources and the inspector general’s report released in mid May. Officials in the Technical Unit of the IRS’s Rulings and Agreements office played an integral role in determining how the targeted applications were treated, provided general guidelines to Cincinnati case workers, briefed other agency employees on the status of the special cases, and reviewed all those intrusive requests demanding “more information” from tea-party groups.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
