Washington — President Obama compared the Syrian refugees fleeing ISIS to pilgrims coming to America on the Mayflower during his Thanksgiving radio address. Since the Paris terrorist attacks Republicans have demanded America shut its doors to Syrian refugees over fear they could be terrorists. But Obama said refugees receive “the highest security checks of anyone traveling to the United States” and reminded Americas of the spirit of Thanksgiving. “Nearly four centuries after the Mayflower set sail, the world is still full of pilgrims – men and women who want nothing more than the chance for a safer, better future for themselves

The New York Times slammed Donald Trump for his “outrageous” mocking of a reporter who suffers from a congenital condition, Politico reports. “We think it’s outrageous that he would ridicule the appearance of one of our reporters,” a Times spokeswoman said Wednesday. During a campaign rally in South Carolina Tuesday night, Trump imitated Times reporter Serge Kovaleski who suffers from Arthrogryposis, a physical condition that affects the range of a person’s joints. Describing Kovaleski as a “nice reporter,” Trump mocked his atypical arm and hand motions, telling his audience in a mocking tone, “you ought to see the

President Obama delivered his Thanksgiving address this morning, including a political lecture on Syrian refugees. He told Americans that Syrian refugees were just like the pilgrims who came to America on the Mayflower. “In 1620, a small band of pilgrims came to this continent, refugees who had fled persecution and violence in their native land,” he said. “Nearly 400 years later, we remember their part in the American story – and we honor the men and women who helped them in their time of need.” Obama reminded Americans to step back on Thanksgiving and remember that historically “we turn Lady

The Republican establishment is nearing full-blown panic about Donald Trump. The demise of Trump´s candidacy has been predicted by centrist Republicans and the media alike since the day it began. But there is no empirical evidence at all to suggest it is happening. (snip) “He has a real shot at this. He is the clear front-runner,” said Ron Bonjean, a consultant and former aide to GOP leaders on Capitol Hill.

Donald Trump, the presidential hopeful who believes himself so high and mighty he can’t possibly he wrong, is now claiming that he has no idea who the reporter is after mocking his physical disability just days ago. After days of defending his false claim that New Jersey Muslims were celebrating the 9/11 terror attacks by the thousands, Trump cited an article written by Serge Kovaleski, a Washington Post reporter who has since joined the New York Times. While the article only addresses rumors at the time and does nothing to make the claim truthful, Trump has run with it despite Kovaleski’s

A large group of juveniles robbed a clothing store in Georgetown on Tuesday evening and stole $13,000 worth of items, according to D.C. police. The incident happened just before 6 p.m. at the Diesel store in the 3000 block of M Street NW. More than 20 people went into the store and grabbed several items off the racks, police said. They stole four leather jackets, costing about $800, and an additional $12,000 worth of merchandise. One person who worked at the store was said to have been pushed from behind by someone in the crowd. The employee was not injured, according to police. Police described the suspects only as

From my vantage point at New Jersey´s Command Center in Liberty State Park, I looked directly across the Hudson and saw the 22-story-high flames and the black and white smoke billowing from where the World Trade Center had collapsed. I smelled the toxic confection of steel, wood, glass and flesh from across the river. Mostly, though, I recall the afternoon and evening of 9/11 as a chaos of conflicting and frequently false reports. The Department of Law and Public Safety — which was responsible for coordinating the state emergency management, law enforcement and victims´ assistance response — was flying blind
