The Republican establishment is in full meltdown over the collapse of the bid by House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy of California to succeed retiring Speaker John Boehner of Ohio. NPR reported GOP representatives were “audibly crying.” “Rep. Tom Rooney, R-Fla., said the meeting opened, Republicans said the Pledge and then McCarthy stood up and took himself out of the race. The prohibitive favorite said he didn’t want members to take arrows for voting for him and that he was taking himself out of contention. “Speaker Boehner then immediately moved to adjourn the meeting. Rooney said there was “total shock” and

Neurosurgeon Ben Carson, rising in GOP presidential polls, is routinely described in the media as “soft-spoken” and, of course, Christian. But in his increasingly vicious response to the Roseburg, Oregon, shooting, he’s sounded neither soft-spoken nor Christian at all. Carson, who attacked President Obama for “politicizing” the shooting at Umpqua Community College, said he changed his mind about the merits of an assault-weapons ban because he read about “tyranny.” He has also called for the arming of kindergarten teachers to prevent child massacres like the 2012 Sandy Hook killings. But he may have gone too far when he criticized victims

Could Newt Gingrich end up right back to the place that made him a political celebrity? During an interview with radio host Sean Hannity Thursday, the former speaker told the host that while he isn´t pining to retake the position he vacated in 1999, he would not be opposed to serving as interim speaker if he had the 218 votes necessary. The comments came only hours after House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy dropped his bid to replace Speaker John Boehner, who is set to leave the post on Oct. 30. Gingrich also made the remarks after Hannity pressed him on

The wrong drug was used to execute a man convicted of raping and murdering a baby, it has been revealed. Oklahoma used potassium acetate - not potassium chloride, as required under state protocol - to kill Charles Warner, who said his body felt like it was ´on fire´ as he was put to death in January. The state´s governor issued a last-minute stay of execution last week to a murderer after officials discovered that potassium acetate had been delivered for his injection too. Warner was executed for the 1997 killing of 11-month-old girl Adrianna Waller in Oklahoma City.

n a recent interview with Fox News, Donald Trump, who has a history of abusing eminent domain for his own benefit, claims that the condemnation of property for transfer to private developers is “a wonderful thing” and “is not taking property”: So eminent domain, when it comes to jobs, roads, the public good, I think it’s a wonderful thing, I’ll be honest with you. And remember, you’re not taking property, you know, the way you asked the question, the way other people—you’re paying a fortune for that property. Those people can move two blocks away into a much nicer house. When the
