The Tweeter-in-Chief is back in the USA, Air Force One landing in the Washington area shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday. As the president flew in, the tweets flew out, including Mr. Trump´s political picks and pans: "My political representatives didn’t want me to get involved in the Mark Sanford primary thinking that Sanford would easily win - but with a few hours left I felt that Katie was such a good candidate, and Sanford was so bad, I had to give it a shot. Congrats to Katie Arrington!," Trump tweeted. Arrington, a staunch Trump supporter, defeated never-Trumpist Rep. Mark Sanford in South Carolina´s

A new proposal to break up California into three states received enough signatures on Tuesday to make it onto the November 6 ballot. Now all it takes is a majority of California voters supporting it to start dismantling the country´s most populous, wealthy and radical state. The Los Angeles Times provides some more details on what would be "the first division of an existing U.S. state since the creation of West Virginia in 1863": If a majority of voters who cast ballots agree, a long and contentious process would begin for three separate states to take the place of California,

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) blasted the liberal media’s “incredible hypocrisy” by contrasting their treatment of President Barack Obama’s meetings with hostile world leaders with their coverage of President Donald Trump’s denuclearization meeting with the leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un. First, media accused Trump of provoking war, then then they attacked him for pursuing peace, Rubio said in a Tuesday Twitter post: “Presidents meeting with #KJU exposed incredible hypocrisy of many in media. When Obama did these things he was described as enlightened. When Trump does it he is reckless & foolish. 1 yr ago they attacked Trump for leading us

Last fall, the New York Times sent columnist Nicholas Kristof and three others to North Korea. His October 5 column was ominous, "Inside North Korea, and Feeling the Drums of War." Nuclear war is near, he warned, blaming Kim Jong Un and President Trump equally. "Far more than when I previously visited, North Korea is galvanizing its people to expect a nuclear war with the United States. High school students march in the streets in military uniform every day to denounce America. Posters and billboards along the public roads show missiles destroying the U.S. Capitol and shredding the American flag.

"Despite the many warts in President Trump’s unconventional diplomacy toward North Korea, we have to give him credit. French President Emmanuel Macron has censured Italy’s decision to refuse debarkation to a migrant-laden NGO vessel as “sickening,” while scolding Italy for its supposed “cynicism and irresponsibility” in dealing with migrants. Early this week, the Italian government turned away the ship Aquarius, operated by the French-German NGO SOS Méditerranée, which has been conducting search-and-rescue missions in North African waters since 2015. The League’s Matteo Salvini, now Italy’s Interior Minister, repeatedly accused NGO vessels such as the Aquarius of providing an illegal shuttle service for African migrants to Italy. On more than one occasion, Salvini has denounced the NGOs for accepting financing from billionaire

Iran is looking to EU nations to provide funds to help it honour the 2015 nuclear accord, President Hassan Rouhani has warned. In a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday, Rouhani said Europeans must financially compensate Iran if they want to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), following President Donald Trump’s decision to withdraw from the deal and restore sanctions. Rouhani’s website quoted him as saying: “We must not let this great achievement of diplomacy be destroyed by others’ unilateral actions, which are unfaithful to their promises.” Co-signers France, Britain, Germany, Russia and China want to preserve the

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services spokesman Michael Bars told the Washington Examiner the agency has begun hiring dozens of lawyers and immigration officers to staff the forthcoming USCIS office in Los Angeles with the intent of possibly prosecuting some of those who committed fraud. “The new USCIS office in southern California will serve as a centralized location to review and initiate the civil

Last week, millions of Californians performed their civic duty by voting in primary elections. If these Americans did their homework in the days before the elections, they might have encountered a disturbing piece of fake news: Google search results listed the ideology of the California Republican Party as “Nazism.” This reprehensible smear was an insult to millions of California Republicans, living and dead — especially those who, like Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, worked to free the world from totalitarianism during World War II and the Cold War. But this incident was not merely an insult. It was the latest in a trend

Under Barack Obama one in five US households, or twenty percent of US households, were on food stamps in 2013. The Obama administration paid recruiters to sign up people on food stamps. At the same time, the Obama administration also pursued a “partnership” with the Mexican government to “raise awareness” about food stamps. The administration used a Spanish soap opera format to push food stamps on illegal immigrants and Spanish-speaking Americans. Judicial appointments have proved the most successful aspect of the Trump presidency. Neil Gorsuch has begun where Antonin Scalia left off—as a committed originalist and eloquent textualist. Twenty-one appellate justices have been confirmed, a record at this point in a modern President’s term. And, like Gorsuch, these appointees have been schooled in formalist methodologies of judging. Confident of and committed to their judicial philosophy, they will not shift leftward, as have many Republican appointees in the past. These judges are the fruit of institutions like the Federalist Society and of the work of scholars who have carefully formulated the ideas

Barack Obama tried to be the first Pacific President. He attempted to pivot America’s grand strategy eastwards in order to adapt to a changing world. He failed, by and large. Donald Trump has shown that he is moving further east. In fact, after his meeting with Kim Jong-un in Singapore today, Trump could lay claim to being the first truly Global American President. No doubt that sentence sounds ridiculous. Trump is an America First nationalist who believes in tariffs and borders; he stands for everything we’ve been told globalisation isn’t. But there is a difference between globalisation as a supranational faith

Jim Chilton has long warned the government about the few strands of barbed wire that separate Mexico from the U.S. on his Arizona ranch. He says the lack of a serious barrier, combined with the Border Patrol’s enforcement decisions, have effectively ceded miles of U.S. territory to the Sinaloa cartel, which has put scouts on his hilltops and blazed smuggling trails across his land. That combination of weak barriers and few agents ended in violence Tuesday, he said, after a Border Patrol agent was ambushed and wounded on Mr. Chilton’s property in what authorities labeled a “shooting incident” — and

It was very harmless. I had no idea that we would ever be part of the #MeToo story. I actually thought what John Oliver was doing was pretty funny. Wood told The Sunday Times, he was lucky because his mother protected him immensely, but that many other child actors are continually "preyed upon" at parties by powerful

Thanks to Richard & all the people on @Twitter who’ve compared me to Howdy Doody, I now know a bit about him, including that he stood up to bullies & believed in being kind to animals. We have chronicled the accelerating destruction of Venezuela, once one of the world’s more prosperous countries, by socialism. The most recent news from that country is chilling: * According to Gallup, Venezuela is now the least safe place the world, having tumbled below Afghanistan in the rankings. Only 17% of Venezuelans say they feel safe walking alone at night. * Polio has re-emerged in Venezuela, 30 years after it was declared extinct there. The country’s health care system is verging on non-existent, as hospitals not only have run out of medicines, in some instances they don’t even have running water. * Venezuela is

Four years ago, in June 2014, almost no one would have dreamed Donald J. Trump would be a serious candidate for president. Then, nearly three years ago, when he announced his candidacy on June 16, 2015, almost no one thought he could be
