Morning Joe Agrees Woodward ‘Wrong

Given the recent developments in the tension between Bob Woodward and the White House, Joe Scarborough was especially excited to discuss the story. Finding the whole ordeal “fascinating,” the panel largely agreed that Woodward is the wrong journalist to mess with — with Scarborough recalling his own past threat from the White House.(Snip)“Where do these people come from?” Scarborough asked, as Mika Brzezinski noted, “As least they talk to the press and are not afraid.” But these types of spats happen with every White House, he added. For their part, a White House official responded, saying the email

MISHAWAKA — Police are investigating an incident at the local office of U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski in which an employee working the front desk said a man came in and showed a picture of a gun with a message underneath. The employee told police a man entered the office at 202 Lincoln Way E. on Tuesday and showed him a piece of paper that depicted a semi-automatic handgun, according to a Mishawaka police report.

The Morning Joe panel was tough today on the Obama White House for threatening Bob Woodward by telling him he would "regret" his reporting that it was the Obama administration that had devised the sequester,   In the course of the opening segment, various panel members described the Obama White House response as "mickey mouse," "pathetic" and "childish." But at the same time, a theme emerged that there was nothing unusual about a White House trying to intimidate reporters.  Mark Halperin said "the Bush White House regularly would engage in the same kind of tactics." And Joe Scarborough and An

Never underestimate the White House’s ability to mislead voters or the willingness of lefty pundits and mainstream media journalists (some overlap there) to be misled. The New York Times reports: President Obama’s team concedes that the almost certain arrival of across-the-board budget cuts on Friday will not immediately produce the politically dramatic layoffs and airport delays that the administration has been warning about for days. But White House strategists say they believe that a constant drip-drip-drip of bad news will slowly emerge in Congressional districts across the country in the weeks ahead, generating negative headlines

NYers lie about age, jobs, ethnicity

New Yorkers lie through their teeth in online dating profiles, fibbing about physical stature, race, wealth — and even pregnancy, a new study found. In one case, a woman from Long Island claimed to be her more-attractive sibling, said Whatsyourprice.com spokeswoman Jennifer Gwynn, whose company surveyed members across the country. “She gained weight after pregnancy — so she uses her skinny twin’s photo to get dates,” Gwynn said. Other female fibbers simply failed to mention crucial facts, like the gal who claimed to be a 115-pound beauty, then showed up in her second trimester — without even hinting she was pregnant.

A nine-foot bronze statue of the civil rights icon and Alabama native, Rosa Parks was unveiled in the U.S. Capitol building yesterday. President Obama spoke at the dedication ceremony rightly asserting that Parks´ activism began long before she was arrested for refusing to give up her seat on the bus to a white man in 1955. In fact, according to Professor Robin D.G. Kelley, who has written on the Communist Party´s involvement in the early days of the civil rights movement in Alabama, Parks and her husband were regular attendees at communist meetings in the 1930´s.

Greece is reportedly facing a severe shortage of medicine, with pharmaceutical companies reluctant to ship drugs to the country due to low profits and unpaid debts. Greece´s hospitals and social insurance funds owe around £1.6bn to various pharmaceutical companies, with £434m expected to be paid this month. The country´s pharmaceutical drugs are said to be priced around 20 percent lower than the next lowest prices in Europe. Under EU trade legislation, it is legal for Greek wholesalers and pharmacists to sell the medicines on to wholesalers in other countries. There are fears in the pharmaceutical industry that middlemen are exploiting

There is a real possibility, a strong likelihood, that President Obama knows nothing of the nuts and bolts, the details and realities of the positions he promotes. He rides the Starship Air Force One, thrills adolescent crowds and frames himself with federal employees while orating vapid clichés dowsed in demagoguery. He drives the fancy car but needs help filling it with gas and couldn´t point to the air filter if you popped the hood. Imagery sans leadership. Celebrity is the accomplishment here

The Mayflower Madam opened the door to her New York apartment. Inside, it was clearly more Mayflower than madam. Old family heirlooms include an inlaid mahogany secretary, two 18th-century family portraits of children and a Dresden clock. The former debutante Sydney Biddle Barrows, a scion of Philadelphia’s aristocratic Biddle family, has called this rent-controlled, $1,800-a-month, three-room Upper West Side apartment home since before her 1984 arrest for running a pricey prostitution service.

The announcement by Pope Benedict XVI that he will be “retiring” as of the end of February does not signal the end of his influence. Pope’s aren’t presidents. Their influence does not end with their pontificate, as a president’s does with the end of his term. Their pontificates ensure their legacies to the Church. (snip) He is leaving us a warning. In the West, and now especially in the U.S., the state is increasingly pushing a secular agenda, and pushing that agenda through means pushing the Church out. The threat to religious liberty is very, very real.

Rush Limbaugh said that for the first time he was ashamed of his country and his words made the top Drudge headline and generated a ton of comments from talking heads in Washington. ´Ashamed´ isn´t the word I´d use but I share Limbaugh´s frustration with the endless lies told by members of both parties so that nothing ever changes but I believe he´s being disingenuous. We´ve never been fooled by the lies the politicians throw at us. Rush is just too polite to say is that he´s confounded by the stupidity of the American people who do fall for them.

Our Scott has racked up a good enough record of calling elections correctly, as to the winners and the spreads, that his numbers likely do reflect the universes he attempts to measure. He’s no amateur or partisan. Though when his numbers reflect favorably on conservative candidates or causes, folks on the left accuse him of being a Republican hack.

The number of people heading to Britain, less the number leaving, dropped significantly by 84,000 to 163,000 in the year to June, fuelled by a 17% drop in the number of foreign students arriving. Immigration to the UK fell from 589,000 to 515,000, its lowest since 2003, official figures from the Office for National Statistics showed. Prime Minister David Cameron and Home Secretary Theresa May have pledged to reduce net migration to below 100,000 before the next election in 2015 and have brought in a number of measures to crack down on bogus students.

Failure to pay would result in the cancellation of their Easter Saturday parade event, they were told. Council officials asked the troupe to pay £600

President Obama has gone all-in trying to get Republicans to blink and serve up another round of tax increases in lieu of the looming spending sequester. Eschewing talks with Congress or any pretense of leadership, he is instead flying around the country burning $180,000 an hour on Air Force One laying out a parade of horribles that will descend upon us if the growth of federal spending were reduced by one iota. In the Great Sequestration Debate, here’s what we know: (a) The president has paternity of an idea he now characterizes as a brutal and senseless assault on America. (b) The president and his then-chief of staff, Jack Lew, misled the public about their role in giving birth to the sequester idea. (c) House Republicans have twice passed legislation to avoid the sequester cuts with carefully targeted ones, but Senate Democrats refused to act. (d) Mr. Obama has brushed off a Republican plan to give him flexibility to allocate the $85 billion in spending cuts, which makes no sense

The Department of Homeland Security’s immigration enforcement division was ordered last week to reduce their illegal immigrant detainee populations to 26 percent below the legally required level, according to a research organization that monitors immigration issues. North Korea, the most renegade and unpredictable of the world´s nations, recently tested a nuclear bomb, which predictably raised tensions that are high under ordinary conditions and that, according to the North Korean regime, is the fault of the U.S. As Reuters reports: North Korea accused the United States on Wednesday of contributing to an "unpredictable" situation on the divided Korean peninsula and abusing its power in the U.N. Security Council to impose its "hostile policy" against Pyongyang. There is, however, reason to be hopeful that tensions may be eased.

But thanks to businesses across the country, today we are proving the conventional wisdom wrong. Every day, great American companies are achieving greater and greater success by creating and selling healthy products.
