During a press gaggle today, White House Press Secretary Jay Carney suggested that President Obama’s interview with comedian Jon Stewart on the Daily Show was ‘more substantive’ than other interviews he had during the campaign. Carney quoted a statement during the briefing about President Obama’s executive powers in foreign policy decisions from a Daily Show interview in October of 2012. “Is the ‘Daily Show’ a proper platform for a foreign policy discussion like that?” asked a reporter in response. “When the President is asked a question, he answers it,” Carney said sternly.

LT. COL. BILL COWAN, FOX NEWS: Quite a contrast, Sean. No question about it. Even if Romney had won the presidency and this news had just been leaked, you know the left would be all over him, blaming him for this memo that was written back sometime. Sean, I have no problem with the drone program. I don´t have a real problem with waterboarding, if it saves American lives. The issue with the drone program is -- and I have no problem with killing Americans overseas, who are a part of a terrorist organization.

Trenton — New Jersey Democrats will introduce legislation today meant to give convicted criminals a better shot at finding work. The measure, known as “ban the box,” would require employers to consider the qualifications of job candidates before asking about criminal histories, state Sen. Raymond Lesniak (D-Union), a primary sponsor, said last night. Giving jobs to former convicts will reduce recidivism rates, he said.(Snip) New Jersey, like many states, has struggled to keep released inmates from committing more crimes. Nearly 55 percent of offenders released from the state’s prisons in 2008 were rearrested, according to a report by the

According to Fishbowl DC, newly-installed CNN-chief Jeff Zucker has made or is contemplating a couple of smart moves. Apparently, John King has survived and just renewed his contract. That´s the good news. The great news is that the incorrigibly corrupt Candy Crowley might be headed for the door. King´s a smart, informed guy who was a favorite of mine a few years ago. His reporting was straight-forward and surprisingly objective. Unfortunately, that didn’t last. Not long ago, King lost his objectivity, and not in a way that benefitted Republicans.

When a person amasses too much power, they often believe they are indestructible. What Karl Rove and company did last week in the New York Times, claiming that their new “Conservative Victory Project” would cure the ills of a disappointing campaign cycle, is laughable. The so-called “Conservative Victory Project” is nothing more than an attempt by establishment Republicans to cull the conservative movement. Why does Rove think he has a monopoly on wanting to win? At least Karl Rove and company are finally out front with their disdain for the conservative movement,

It´s a long tradition in America: A father buys a gun for his son or daughter to practice with at a range and eventually take hunting. It´s one so rich in American life that many states are encouraging it by adding youth-only hunting seasons and urging parents to bring their children to hunter safety courses. But universal background check proposals being considered in Washington and in some states are threatening to end that by criminalizing gun gifts, neighbor-to-neighbor sales or even inheritances where the one receiving the gun doesn´t first pass a background check. "They could very well make

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta told the Senate Armed Services Committee this morning that the Pentagon should not be relied upon to cover all diplomatic missions — namely, the U.S. facility attacked over a period of several hours in Benghazi on Sept. 11. After Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) vowed to block the nomination of any new defense secretary unless Panetta testified about Benghazi, the defense chief appeared before the panel along with Chairman of the Join Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey. “The United States military, as I’ve said, is not and, frankly, should not be a 911 service

Pollster and pundit Dick Morris said Wednesday that he “absolutely believed” Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney would beat President Barack Obama in the last presidential election, and he urged the GOP to take a different tone in crafting its message. “I absolutely believed it and so did a lot of people,” Morris said on CNN’s “Piers Morgan Tonight,” when asked about his prediction. A new poll released by the Center for Immigration Studies shows the majority of likely voters simply want illegal immigrants to head back to their home countries. A new poll using neutral language — and avoiding the false choice of conditional legalization vs. mass deportations — finds that most Americans want illegal immigrants to return to their home counties, rather than be given legal status. The findings also show a very large gap in intensity, with those who want illegal immigrants to head home feeling much stronger about that option than those who would like to

WASHINGTON – Caroline Kennedy is the "leading contender" on the short list of candidates President Obama is considering to be the next ambassador to Canada, a senior Democratic official tells Fox News. Kennedy, the daughter of the late President Kennedy and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, has been a strong political and financial supporter of Obama. The confirmation that she´s being strongly considered comes as the Canadian press is abuzz about the possible picks. Canadian newspapers have been floating other possible candidates to the spot in the past few weeks. Among those rumored to be on the list: Former Washington governor

Come August, the school will offer coverage in its student health care plan for the procedure, according to The Daily Caller. “We identified this as an important benefit for students to have access to,” said Director of Insurance and Purchasing Services Jeanne Hebert, in The Daily Caller report. The new health care provision, she reportedly said, is part of an overall effort “to support all students” at the university. The insurance offering is substantial; according to industry estimates,

In an opening statement at a Senate hearing on the September 11, 2012 attack on a U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta told a committee that a lack of time and proximity prevented a military response following the attack. He also told the committee that we have a “solemn responsibility” to the families of the four Americans killed in the attack to bring those people to justice and make sure it doesn’t happen again Panetta also said that U.S. officials and the Department of Defense, in particular, did all they could in responding to the attack.

LOS ANGELES — President Obama is already learning from John Kerry, his new Secretary of State: Obama was for sequestration before he was against it. Obama favored the automatic spending cuts of sequestration in 2011. They were his idea. Now he is against them. In his latest press conference he lambasted Republicans for agreeing with him and demanded they now reject his policy in the name of coming together. Huh? Perhaps Obama should spend less time focusing on trying to ban guns and more time on dealing with mental illness. He seems a bit schizophrenic these days.

A Virginia appellate court ruled last week that a prison trampled on an inmate’s constitutional rights by refusing to pay for the felon’s sexual-reassignment surgery — a procedure costing about $20,000. The United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit decided that denying to pay for gender reassignment surgery for Michael Stokes, a transgender bank robber serving a 73-year sentence, violates the constitution’s Eighth Amendment, which protects against cruel and unusual punishment, according to the ruling. The decision, titled De’Lonta v. Johnson, gave the following analogy:

As we reported earlier this week, celebrities are finding ever more inventive ways of baring their assets on the red carpet. Side-boobs, waistline-necklines and backless dresses, which sit so low they reveal something of ´what lies beneath´, have become the norm. And that´s before we´ve even got into the thigh-split dresses that so love to make a feature of a girl´s underpants. Such rampant, flesh-baring antics have now driven CBS, the broadcaster of Sunday´s 55th Grammy Awards, to take the unusual step of sending out a ´Standard And Practice Wardrobe Advisory´ notice to all attendees, containing a strict dress code.

The media complicity in President Obama´s drone strategy gets more and more astonishing with each passing day. On Wednesday, Britain´s Guardian published a piece with the incredible sub-headline "New York Times and Washington Post knew about secret drone base in Saudi Arabia but agreed not to disclose it to the public." On Tuesday, following Monday´s disclosure by NBC of a leaked Justice Department white paper on the case for its controversial targeted killing programme, the Washington Post revealed it had previously refrained from publishing the base´s location at the behest of the Obama administration over national security concerns.

This is, actually, a tiny bit unusual. The normal form for summits is that leaders arrive in big shiny cars, which pull up to the rear entrance of the Justus Lipsius building to disgorge their VIP cargo before a pack of waiting hacks clustered by the door. Like a lot of summitry, this ritual is a bit silly, especially since the leaders often aren´t coming from very far away. In the case of a British PM, the distance concerned is sometimes only a few hundred yards, from the UK Permanent Representative´s office street or so away.
