Clinton´s Testimony & Case
for More Embassy Security
International Business Times, by Joanne Butler    Original Article

Secretary of State Clinton’s testimony Wednesday is really about the need for more funding to physically strengthen United States embassies. As a penny-pinching Republican, you might be surprised to learn I think this is a good idea. Having worked with a former Iranian U.S. hostage from 1979 -- the Canadians smuggled him out -- and a lucky U.S. foreign affairs officer who happened to be in a meeting elsewhere when our embassy in Kenya was blown up in 1998, this matter is personal to me. And when I think what it was like working at the U.S. House on Sept.11, my feelings grow that much

Even as Democrats relish President Obama’ second inauguration, some party leaders are worried about whether the campaign’s decision to form its own advocacy group will hamstring future generations of Democratic candidates. Several of the president’s top political advisers and the campaign’s gold mine of a voter database will be housed not at the national party, but at a tax-exempt group called Organizing for Action. It’s the next phase of the year-round campaign apparatus formed after the 2008 campaign to capitalize on Obama’s unprecedented grassroots network and help

Moody Air Force Base in Georgia was locked down for about 90 minutes Wednesday while officials investigated a reported threat that turned out not to exist, an official said. Emergency personnel investigated and found there was no threat, a spokeswoman said by telephone. No details on the initial report were available. Moody, about nine miles northeast of Vladosta, Ga., is the home of the 23rd Wing of the Air Combat Command. The first report came in about 1:25 p.m. and the base went on lock down, the spokeswoman said.

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in congressional testimony delayed for several months amid charges of a cover-up, on Wednesday again took responsibility for the deaths of four Americans during the terror attack in Benghazi and defended the Obama administration’s shifting explanation for the Sept. 11, 2012, attack. “As I have said many times since September 11, I take responsibility,” Clinton told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. “Nobody is more committed to getting this right. I am determined to leave the State Department and our country safer, stronger, and more secure.”

Today while almost all the media was gushing over outgoing Secretary of State Hillary Clinton´s theatrical and less than forthcoming Senate testimony about events in Libya, CBS News´ investigative reporter Sharyl Attkisson tweeted out a penetrating series of unanswered questions that both the White House and its media minions will ensure are never answered. Some examples:

After months of waiting, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has wrapped up her first round of questioning about the 9/11 terrorist attack in Benghazi from lawmakers on Capitol Hill. Testifying in front of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Clinton failed to mention both in her opening statement and her answers, the now notorious YouTube video that was blamed by multiple Obama administration officials for the attack. The focus of today’s hearing was supposed to be two things: the Obama administration cover-up of the attack, including the promotion of the false narrative that the attack occurred

The new Kate Upton Mercedes-Benz ad slated to run during the Super Bowl sure has made a lot of people hot and bothered. A 90-second trailer was posted on the internet Tuesday and some have criticized it for being too racy while others have taken to the web to vent their frustrations that the most recent Sports Illustrated swimsuit covergirl doesn´t show enough skin. A spokeswoman for the Parents Television Council told the MailOnline that the car commercial ´isn’t selling cars, it’s selling sexual objectification´ while disgruntled viewers think they don´t see enough of Upton.

On Wednesday’s broadcast of Laura Ingraham’s radio program, Speaker of the House John Boehner repudiated Hillary Clinton’s efforts during testimony on Wednesday to blame Congress for the Benghazi fiasco. “We gave them all the money they asked for to make sure that our diplomats and our employees around the world were safe.” Boehner said. “It’s clear that her own people in Libya asked for additional security, and it’s also clear their request was rejected, and I think the secretary needs to explain why. In the House hearing on Benghazi on Capitol Hill today, Hillary Clinton argued that she and President Obama had not obfuscated on the true nature of the Benghazi attack. “I said the very next morning that it was an attack by heavily armed militants,” Clinton said. “The president said that morning it was an act of terror. At the same time, however, I was dealing with protest against our facilities that were clearly connected to that video.” Yes, Obama did use the phrase “acts of terror” in his remarks on September 12, but phrased in

Size does matter - and two New Jersey men are suing to prove it. The pair have sued Subway, saying the world´s biggest fast-food chain has been shorting them on its so-called footlong sandwiches. The filing made Tuesday seeks compensatory damages from the company and a change in practices. Plaintiffs´ lawyer Stephen DeNittis says the company should either make their sandwiches 12 inches long or stop advertising them as footlongs. DeNittis, the lawyer for the plaintiffs in the New Jersey suit, said he´s seeking class-action status and is also preparing to file a similar suit in Pennsylvania

Senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military´s ban on women serving in combat, opening hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war. The groundbreaking move recommended by the Joint Chiefs of Staff overturns a 1994 rule banning women from being assigned to smaller ground combat units. Panetta´s decision gives the military services until January 2016 to seek special exceptions if they believe any positions must remain closed to women.

The number of people in work has reached a record high after another fall in unemployment, it was revealed today. Almost 30million adults were in a job by the end of November--up by more than half a million on the previous year. The figure is the highest since records began in 1971, despite the damage done to labour markets by the double-dip recession. The news will boost the Coalition Government, which has been under fire over its handling of the economy and the slow pace of recovery from the financial crisis. Unemployment fell by 37,000 in the latest quarter

WASHINGTON -It´s shaping up to be one of the trickiest decisions President Obama will have to make early in his second term: whether to approve construction of the 1,700-mile Keystone XL oil pipeline, stretching from Alberta, Canada, to Oklahoma. Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican, on Tuesday endorsed a revised pipeline route through his state, removing a final hurdle for the $5 billion project on the state level. There are many incompetent people in the world. Dr. David A. Dunning is haunted by the fear that he might be one of them. Dunning, a professor of psychology at Cornell, worries about this because, according to his research, most incompetent people do not know that they are incompetent. On the contrary. People who do things badly, Dunning has found in studies conducted with a graduate student, Justin Kruger, are usually supremely confident of their abilities -- more confident, in fact, than people who do things well. "I began to think that there were probably lots of things that I was bad at, and I didn't know it," Dunning said.

It was not exactly a bravura performance today from the Secretary of State, who testified this morning before the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations. Hillary Clinton came across as defiant, evasive, blasé, and at times hugely unconvincing when answering questions from Republican Senators about the death of four Americans at the hand of Islamist terrorists in Benghazi last September, including the assassination of the US Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens. After listening to several hours of Mrs. Clinton defending her administration’s handling of the Benghazi debacle, including UN Ambassador Susan Rice’s preposterous suggestion on Sunday morning talk shows

The nature of modern warfare requires troops more than ever to be multi-skilled and, above all, versatile. And as this stunning collection of pictures shows, those qualities are possessed in no small part by the United States Air Force. The images range from a fleet of F-16s taxiing on a runway in South Korea while preparing for a wartime mission and a triumphant flyby over an American football game to firefighters tackling a cargo plane fire and a snoozing airman having a well-earned nap during training. They were chosen by a team of Air Force journalists and photographers

You see, Paul´s question and statement of fact doesn’t matter, because Paul´s resume is more important.

President Obama has “no concept” of the U.S. Constitution, despite his previously being a constitutional law professor, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Rather, he said, the president upholds the constitution of our old Cold War foe. “I think my role is to uphold support and defend our Constitution,” Broun said. “The Constitution I uphold and defend is the one I carry in my pocket all the time, the U.S. Constitution.” Obama on the other hand? Not so much. “I don’t know what Constitution that other members of Congress uphold, but it’s not this one,” he added.

Christopher Stevens and three other Americans were slain in last September’s attack in Benghazi, Libya. Carney told reporters at the daily press briefing that there has been an “obvious political obsession over a series of talking points” that bears no relevance to the essential issues at stake.
