The Republican National Committee has launched a new website with hopes of engaging activists to help "analyze the strengths and weaknesses of the 2012 election cycle efforts of the RNC" and "is reaching out to hundreds of individuals including RNC Members, grassroots activists, donors, elected officials, community leaders and other important partners to help the Republican Party form a solid path going forward." The RNC believes in order to to properly prepare for 2016, as rumblings of who the GOP candidates will be have already started, activists must be engaged in the conversation about improvement.

Ever since the Sandy Hook shootings, we´ve been hearing that now, at last, it´s time for the National Rifle Association to drop its "extremist" views and accept the sort of gun control that Democrats — and their allies in the press — were pushing long before Sandy Hook. When NRA Executive Vice President Wayne La Pierre proposed armed guards in schools, it was portrayed as evidence of how out-of-touch the organization was. (Snip) But, then again, it turned out that 55% of Americans supported the NRA proposal. Turns out, it was the people calling it crazy —

New York — Union membership is continuing to shrink throughout the country, even as companies add jobs in one-time union strongholds such as Michigan. Union membership fell to 11.3% of wage and salary workers last year, down from 11.8% the year before, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said today. In 1981, 20.1% of wage and salary workers were unionized. The latest numbers, while not a surprise, are the result of both political maneuvering and corporate negotiations. Both Michigan and Indiana became right-to-work states over the last year, meaning unions cannot require members to pay dues as a condition of employment.

TOKYO – Taro Aso has never been one to hold his tongue. But Japan’s 72 year-old deputy prime minister may have outdone himself with his latest gaffe. At a government panel to discuss social security reforms, the former prime minister called the elderly who are unable to feed themselves “tube people,” then proceeded to say the elderly should be allowed to “hurry up and die” to reduce the burden on a country tasked to pay for their medical expenses.

Senate Budget Committee chair Patty Murray, D-Wash., announced that Senate Democrats will pass their first budget since 2009, while trying to dispel the idea that the House Republicans’ ‘no budget, no pay’ proposal had pushed Democrats to do so. “Senate Democrats plan to move on a budget resolution regardless of whether the House rolls this issue into their short-term bill to increase the debt limit,” Murray said in a statement this morning. “I am ready to get to work with my colleagues on the Budget Committee and I look forward to fighting for middle class budget values and

I have seen more powerful men than Barack Obama fall. I worked in South Africa during Thabo Mbeki’s presidency, when the ruling African National Congress (ANC) won 70% of the vote and earned the power to change his country’s constitution unilaterally. In 2005, I watched from the gallery as he told Parliament he was dismissing his deputy, Jacob Zuma, over allegations of corruption stemming from a lucrative arms deal. Two years later, Mbeki was ousted by his party and forced to resign his presidency of the country.

If Bobby Jindal has his way, Louisiana’s personal and corporate income taxes are headed for extinction. Jindal wants the tax reform to be “revenue neutral,” and he’s exploring by how much he would have to increase the sales tax (currently 4 percent) in order to achieve that. He’s also meeting with state legislators. Louisiana’s session doesn’t start until April 8, and Jindal’s office intends by then to release a detailed plan, filling in the broad outlines that have been put forward so far.

The president of Michigan’s largest union is instructing officials to prepare to sue its own members, according to a leaked memo issued after the state adopted right-to-work laws in December. Steven Cook, president of the Michigan Education Association, circulated an email to local unions officials and staff instructing them to monitor revenue streams in light of the right-to-work laws, which are set to go into effect on March 27, 2013. The law allows workers to opt out of union membership unless they have an existing contract with their employer.

Casting about for something positive to say on Inauguration Day, pols and pundits fell back on the cliché that America exhibits the “peaceful transfer of power.” But that’s not much of a consolation if it results in revolution anyways. Most revolutions are not against state power but with it. So it goes with Obama’s, as he leaves the old forms in place but fills them with new revolutionary meanings. The disturbing hollowness of Obama’s inauguration derives from this more subtle form of revolution. All the usual trappings of tradition were on display Link repaired by staff

One day after President Barack Obama won re-election, his Administration agreed to a new round of international negotiations to revive a United Nations-sponsored treaty regulating the international sale of conventional arms, which critics fear could affect the Constitutionally protected right of U.S. citizens to purchase and bear firearms. Now, in the wake of the Newtown school massacre and the President’s January 16 promise to “put everything I’ve got” into a sweeping new series of gun control initiatives, the fate of that treaty, which enters a “final” round of negotiations this March,

WASHINGTON — Secretary of State Hillary Clinton took responsibility for the security failures on the attacks on Benghazi on Wednesday, but said that she was not involved in the confusing dissemination of information in the immediate aftermath of the attack. Clinton testified Wednesday morning before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the September 11 attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Benghazi that left Amb. Chris Stevens and three others dead. “As I have said many times, I take responsibility,” she said, saying that she was committed to implementing changes that would prevent a future attack from happening.

Monday wasn´t really an Inauguration as much as it was a new episode of Joy Porn starring the mainstream media -- and an act of Joy Porn the American people weren´t all that interested in watching. According to the "L.A. Times," in 2009, 17 million watched Obama´s inaugural address on the cable nets. This year, that number dropped to 6.7 million. Across the three broadcast networks, a total of 13.32 million watched the media fall to its knees in worship Monday. In 2009, viewership topped 27.5 million -- a 52% drop, and about a million fewer than watched

With memories painfully fresh and nerves still raw after the Connecticut elementary school massacre, the nation suddenly turned its attention to a community college campus in suburban Houston on Tuesday afternoon, fearful that another violent incident was shredding any lingering notion of safety in the classroom. As it turned out, the gunfire that shattered the silence of a normal day of classes at Lone Star College´s north Harris County location was sadly routine. Two young men became involved in an argument that ended when one pulled a handgun.

How do you deal with Barack Obama? Benjamin Netanyahu seems to have found one reasonably successful way: stand tall and don’t back down, and your people will rally around you. Obama, believing Netanyahu would win reelection despite trying to damage him with remarks leaked to Jeffrey Goldberg, sent a handwritten note to Netanyahu reading: "Looking forward to continuing working with you in the new year." That, of course, is certainly a different approach than the constant attempts by Obama to bully Netanyahu at the
