Presidency: "I´m a pretty friendly guy," President Obama said after suggesting Republicans plan to contaminate food, crash planes and let terrorists build nuclear bombs. "Friendly"? Not the word that comes to mind. ´If congressional Republicans refuse to pay America´s bills on time, Social Security checks and veterans´ benefits will be delayed," President Obama claimed at his much-ballyhooed "Final Press Conference of His First Term" on Tuesday."We might not be able to pay our troops," Obama warned. "Food inspectors, air traffic controllers, specialists who track down loose nuclear material wouldn´t get their paychecks." Even the left doubts Obama´s phony claims.

British pop star Elton John and his partner David Furnish have become parents for a second time, they confirmed on Wednesday. The couple told Hello! magazine that they were "overwhelmed with happiness" at the birth of their son Elijah Joseph Daniel Furnish-John, who was born in Los Angeles on Friday to a surrogate mother. "Both of us have longed to have children, but the reality that we now have two sons is almost unbelievable," they said. The couple´s first son Zachary was also born via a surrogacy arrangement in California in 2010. "The birth of our second son completes our

The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg has an eye-opening piece for Bloomberg that reveals in stark terms what President Obama really thinks of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, as well as Israel itself. As The Telegraph’s Middle East correspondent Robert Tait reports: The damning assessment of the Israeli prime minister, relayed by senior White House officials to an American journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg, is the most graphic sign yet of the toxic relationship between the two men, who have clashed continually over the stalled Middle East peace process.

Wondering if the administration is "against senseless violence and slaughter, or it isn´t," People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is making an 11th hour pitch to President Obama to include a hunting ban in his gun control measures to be unveiled Wednesday. "Americans´ views are evolving on many issues, from same-sex marriage to gun control, and the time is right to reconsider the dangerous message that the practice of killing animals for fun is acceptable and should even be protected," Tracy Reiman, PETA´s executive vice president said in a letter to Obama.

The president of the United States will release a binder full of new gun-control executive orders on Wednesday. Instead of standing alone, bearing full responsibility for the imperial actions he is about to take, President Obama will surround himself with an audience of kids who wrote to him after the Newtown, Conn., school massacre. This is the most cynical in Beltway theatrical staging — a feckless attempt to invoke "For the Children" immunity by hiding behind them. What has happened to the deliberative process in this country? Public debate in Washington has deteriorated into Sesame Street sing-alongs.

President Barack Obama’s deputies have quadrupled the number of signatures that petitioners on the administration’s “We the People” website must collect to get an official response from the White House, following a series of popular, provocative and disrespectful signature drives by his critics. Some of the petitions sought approval for states to secede after Obama’s re-election, while others called on the White House to disavow executive orders that restrict gun rights, or to deport CNN’s British-born, progressive host Piers Morgan.

President Barack Obama’s spokesman is downplaying venomously anti-Semitic statements by Egypt’s new Islamist president, who said that Jews are “apes and pigs” and must be hated by Muslim children. Egypt’s president, Mohammed Morsi, “has demonstrated in word and deed his commitment to Egypt’s peace treaty with Israel. … He obviously worked with us to resolve … a ceasefire … — in the Gaza conflict last year,” spokesman Jay Carney said during the Jan. 15 White House press conference. U.S. policy is focused on Morsi’s actions, not words, Carney said.

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, speaking at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on Monday, said the federal government should stop deporting "non-serious criminal" aliens as a means of making the nation safer. "It is time to put an end to the practice of deporting non-serious criminals," said Villaraigosa. "Our neighborhoods will be safer and our families will be more secure. "Now this is an ambitious agenda," he said. "But immigration reform cannot wait another political season. Already we’re hearing the voices of those who did not learn the lessons of November or who

Conservative talkers Mark “the Hysteric” Levin and “fat ass” Michael Savage reignited their longtime feud this week, even though the two share distributors and no longer air during the same time slot. On Monday, Levin made an appearance on the Fox News Channel and called President Barack Obama “the imperial president,” leading Savage to label Levin “the Hysteric” on his show later that evening. Savage said Levin lazily and uncritically stole the phrase “imperial president” from liberals of the 1970s. “The ‘imperial presidency’ was a line used by liberals to describe Nixon,” Savage bellowed.

President Obama has settled on a political communications strategy for his final term that begins Sunday: Talk about admirable aspirations, ignore the nation´s economic realities, keep everyone fighting amongst themselves over anything at hand while calmly deploring all the disputes, rancor and chaos this president has helped to engineer. Such stunning cynicism has actually worked pretty well for the Real Good Talker this past year. (Snip) Now that he's got Washington and Republicans fighting over how to address his briefly postponed sequester cuts and a national debt that grows by $2.8 million every

Michelle Obama is expected to spend her second term in the White House as a champion of the same issues she advocated for in her first, but with an added twist — the first lady could become the most prominent female figure in her husband’s administration. With Hillary Clinton leaving the State Department — and no high-profile woman replacing her or other departing Cabinet members — Michelle Obama, known for her commitment to health and her chic fashion style, is entrenched as the most famous woman in the administration. Her rise comes at a time

BILL CLINTON: She´s always been very, very healthy and she has very low blood pressure, very low standing heartbeat. I tell her that, you know, she´s still got time to have three more husbands after me. So, I think she´ll live to be 120. And I always know that she´s thinking about that whenever I´m, you know, stubborn about something, in her constant quest at my self- improvement. She refers to me as her first husband. Because I told her once she´s going to live to be 120 and have time for plenty more.

Seven others were wounded in the attack, including two foreigners, added the state news agency. Ireland has announced that one of the hostages is Irish. Algerian forces caught up with and surrounded the kidnappers and negotiations for the release of the hostages are ongoing, the Algerian official said.

French ground operations began overnight in Mali, Adm. Edouard Guillaud, the French military chief of staff, said on Europe 1 television. France´s Defense Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said on RTL radio that soldiers were headed away from the relative safety of the capital toward the rebel strongholds in the north.

Obama brings kids to the White House as props for photo-op and as an emotional appeal to unveil his illegal gun control plans. Obama despicably using kids to undermine the Second Amendment via executive order is a perfect example of why the Tea Party cannot go away. Due to extensive media coverage of Obama´s Disarmament Show, low-info voters will cry hearing stories of how guns make kids fearful and give Obama carte blanche, regardless of the Constitution. Predicting from their pattern of spineless behavior, Republicans will probably simply go along with Obama´s illegal dictates.

One of Russia’s most notorious criminal masterminds, Mafia godfather Aslan Usoyan, also known as ‘Grandpa Hassan,’ was shot dead by a sniper rifle in central Moscow on Wednesday, police said. A sniper fired six shots at Usoyan from the window of a nearby house as the 75-year-old was walking out of a restaurant in Moscow’s Arbat district. His bodyguards failed to cover him in time, and the crime boss died from his injuries on the way to hospital. A woman walking out of the restaurant at the same time

WASHINGTON -- Interior Secretary Ken Salazar will leave the Obama administration in March, an Obama administration official said Wednesday. Salazar has run the Interior Department throughout President Barack Obama´s first term. Before joining the Cabinet, he served as a senator from Colorado. Salazar began his tenure with a pledge to help reduce America´s dependence on foreign oil. He told his confirmation hearing he would seek to expand renewable energy on public lands and promote the "wise use" of traditional energy sources. He is the latest Cabinet secretary

It’s hard for a lot of people, particularly on the right, to recognize that the conservative movement’s problems are mostly problems of success. But the Republican party’s problems are much more recognizable as the problems of failure, including the failure to recognize the limits of that movement’s success. American conservatism began as a kind of intellectual hobbyists’ group with little hope of changing the broader society.

CNN’s Piers Morgan confirmed Ben Shapiro’s skepticism about whether tonight’s “debate” on gun control would be “balanced.” The Breitbart Editor-at-Large accepted an invitation to appear on Morgan’s show for a rematch, then turned down the offer when it became clear Morgan planned to turn his “town hall” into a propaganda rally. Morgan then offered Shapiro two one-on-one segments, and the debate back on was on. As fate would have it, Shapiro’s flight from Los Angeles to New York was grounded in Denver due to an unruly passenger (without a gun)

A procession with a pipe band and anglers made its way through Kenmore in Scotland today to mark the start of the 2012 salmon season on the River Tay. The traditional ceremony was led by a piper who took anglers to the riverbank, where drams were shared before the fishermen´s boats - and the water - were blessed with a dousing of whisky. Last year it was estimated that nearly 7,000 salmon and grilse were caught on the Tay, where a policy of 100 per cent catch and release for spring salmon is now operated.

Japan´s two main airlines have grounded their Boeing 787 Dreamliners after one was forced to make an emergency landing because of battery problems. All Nippon Airways (ANA) grounded its fleet of 17 Dreamliners when its flight NH 692 from Yamaguchi Ube was forced to land shortly after take-off. Japan Airlines followed suit, saying it would ground its fleet of seven 787s from 16 January until further notice. This is the latest setback for Boeing and its problem-hit Dreamliner planes. In recent weeks, Dreamliners have suffered issues including fuel leaks, a cracked cockpit window, brake problems and an electrical fire.

The horrific recent mass murder of 26 children and adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School predictably has reignited the gun-control debate in this country. (snip) The task force led by Vice President Joe Biden has met mostly with groups either in favor of or opposed to greater restrictions on guns and ammunition. Facing strong political opposition in Congress from both parties, Vice President Biden and President Barack Obama each have suggested publicly that the president will act by executive order to restrict guns.
