MSNBC´s Melissa Harris-Perry:

Another black teenager was killed in Florida last week by an older, non-black assailant, and the media - just as they did in the Trayvon Martin-George Zimmerman case - are predictably taking sides before all the facts are in. MSNBC´s Melissa Harris-Perry did her part Saturday saying in a piece about the incident, "This is no country for young black men" (video follows with transcript and commentary): MELISSA HARRIS-PERRY: The police acted the very next day. A man was arrested, charged and is in custody, being held without bond. So this, the alleged shooting of Jordan Russell Davis by

Warning that "the clock is ticking," House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi on Sunday threatened to bring about a House vote on a bill that would extend the Bush-era tax cuts for families making $250,000, but would allow the tax breaks to expire for those above the threshold. The Democratic-controlled Senate already passed its version of the bill in July, with strong support from President Barack Obama. (Snip) "If Speaker Boehner refuses to schedule this widely-supported bill for a vote, Democrats will introduce a discharge petition to automatically bring to the floor the Senate-passed middle class tax cuts,"

A little more than a month after Superstorm Sandy wrought major destruction in the Empire State, New York voters are giving high marks to some of their elected leaders for the way they handled the storm´s aftermath. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, President Barack Obama and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg all received favorable ratings in a new Siena College Poll released Monday. (Snip) On October 29, the then-Category 1 hurricane slammed into the U.S. East Coast, demolishing parts of New Jersey and New York City. More than 40 people were confirmed dead in

To the stunned surprise of much of the nation, voters awarded Obama four years to continue his “transformation” of America. No matter what future historical research will claim, this election was driven more by personal self-interest than by any understanding of national imperatives. In one fell swoop, the world’s greatest experiment in limited government, personal liberty and self-rule took a dramatic turn towards self-extinction. When exit polling says: Obama phones; “free” Obamacare; reproductive services; entitlements; food stamps; unemployment benefits; raiding the rich; and even Hurricane Sandy decided a person’s vote,

Chatting with a group backstage on the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live! in October, Michelle Obama made it clear that she wasn’t thinking about what she might do in the future. “I’m just looking ahead to getting Barack back in office and continuing the work he’s been doing,” she said. “Supporting him is my focus.” But others think the first lady—who spent the past four years seeking to better the lives of military families and fighting to end childhood obesity before becoming one of the stars of her husband’s reelection effort this fall—could have bigger things ahead

Lindsay Lohan’s long list of problems is getting even longer. It’s been reported that on top of her legal woes, she has staggering financial issues too. According to TMZ, the IRS has seized all of Lohan’s money because she owes Uncle Sam $233,904 in unpaid federal taxes for year 2009 and 2010. This comes after news of Charlie Sheen cutting Lindsay a fat $100,000 check aimed at relieving the troubled star’s tax situation.

DH: You told me that you wanted to talk about the lies behind Benghazi, said it is critical for everyone to understand the reason for the lies. and asked that we do this separately. Will the GOP Let the MSM Back

We all know the old saw, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” But how about “Fool me two dozen times and you’re the Stupid Party!” (aka, the GOP)? The Republicans certainly did their best to prove the latter in election 2012. And how were they fooled? The last election was arguably over and done before the real battle started when the mainstream media overtly and covertly made mincemeat of the Republican candidates during the primary debates, effectively neutering them for the main event.

It´s not hard if you have a show on MSNBC. There´s a mantra and all you do is repeat it, like a fourth grade math teacher going over the same fractions year after year until she starts to develop a dislike for 10-year-olds. I get home from work and click on the TV and MSNBC´s Chris Matthews is saying "the rich" aren´t paying their "fair share." The message is that none of us would be falling off the fiscal cliff like a herd of lemmings if only the top 2 percent of income earners would pay "a little more."

Former Republican Rep. J.C. Watts is hinting at a potential bid to become the next Republican National Committee chairman. Watts, a black conservative, told Politico he has been “encouraged” by supporters, amid the Republican Party’s post-election commitment to appeal to a wider range of voters including Hispanics and African Americans. Reince Priebus has already announced he will seek a second term as RNC chairman and reportedly has enough support among the group’s 167 voting members to win re-election. The former Wisconsin Republican Party chairman has been credited with restoring a financially troubled RNC, which he took over in

DALLAS — The Preston Hollow neighborhood has been home to many of Texas’ rich and powerful — George and Laura Bush, Mark Cuban, T. Boone Pickens, Ross Perot. So it is hardly surprising that a recent political fund-raiser was held there on the back terrace of a 20,000-square-foot home overlooking lush gardens with life-size bronze statues of the host’s daughters. The guest of honor was Gov. Rick Perry, but the man behind the event was not one of the enclave’s boldface names. He was a tax consultant named G. Brint Ryan.

On Wednesday last week, New York´s Museum of Modern Art unveiled its most recent gift, and one of the most significant in its history: Robert Rauschenberg´s "Canyon" (1959). Rauschenberg was among the leading American artists of the post-World War II era, and "Canyon" is a "combine," a kind of large-scale, three-dimensional collage that includes photographs, pieces of wood, a mirror, a pillow and a stuffed bald eagle. The arrival of "Canyon" at MoMA is the culmination of a five-year absurdist farce—one tinged more by Kafka than Feydeau—that involved the IRS, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service

The Export-Import Bank is a taxpayer-backed agency that finances U.S. exports, primarily though loan guarantees. You´d think the bank would spread the money around to nurture up-and-coming businesses. You´d be wrong, very wrong. In fact, President Obama´s export subsidy agency funneled 82.7 percent of its taxpayer-backed loan guarantees to just one exporter: Boeing. Out of $14.7 billion in long-term loan guarantees in fiscal year 2012, $12.2 billion subsidized Boeing sales, according to Ex-Im´s annual report issued last week. When President Obama first won the White House in 2008, I was very worried that he had the potential to become a liberal version of Ronald Reagan. I thought he might have the oratory and interpersonal skills necessary to both cajole and pressure significant numbers of Republicans into putting a bipartisan seal of approval on a slew of liberal policies such as health care, global warming, immigration and entitlements. Obama could have reshaped American society for decades to come. Then the stimulus debate happened. As recounted in Bob Woodward´s book "The Price of Politics," just three

Many Jersey Shore residents who applied for federal disaster assistance were surprised when they recently received a check for $2,820 with little explanation, according to a report on APP.com. In the month after Sandy, the Federal Emergency Management Agency distributed a large amount of the green government checks, which they say reflect the fair-market value for two months´ rent on a two-bedroom dwelling in Monmouth and Ocean counties. But many who received the check did not request one, the report says. The agency identified residents in areas hit hardest and granted them the $2,820 check upon registering

President Obama´s plan for the Outer Continental Shelf does not include any new oil and gas leases in the Atlantic Ocean over the next five years, but it does include windmills. The Interior Department wants to lease nearly 278,000 acres off the coasts of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Virginia for wind energy. The lease sales, to be held next year, will be the first-ever competitive sales on the Outer Continental Shelf for wind energy, and the Interior Department describes the lease sales as "major milestones" in its wind energy program. The Times’ review of the state of negotiations reads more like cheerleading for President Barack Obama’s newly-energetic negotiating style. The Times does not dwell on the fact that the White House’s entry into negotiations has scuttled progress and obliterated a rapidly coalescing bipartisan consensus around tax increases coupled with entitlement reforms which many prominent members of Congress had

Americans hate paying taxes. They also want Congress and the White House to balance the budget. They can´t have it both ways. On one side of the escalating budget debate is the premise, offered up by a generation of politicians and tax policy wonks since Ronald Reagan, that government spending is dangerously "out of control" and needs to be restrained. Even if the cure means starving the Treasury Department of cash. One the other side is a promise, dating back to the Great Depression and expanded through Lyndon Johnson´s Great Society
